The camera ticks a lot of boxes you simply don't see at this price.
- IBIS
- FF
- Open Gate
- Large battery
All while being super compact. Now, the thing a lot of people seem to be very irky about is the lack of a mechanical shutter. While I agree in a sense, I also think that not only it makes up for it with the features mentioned above + the LUTs which are very fun - but it was a necessary cut, they _had_ to differentiate it from the S5II in some capacity, otherwise it would've cannibalized its sales by a huge margin because I'm going to say it, professional filmmakers and content creators are spoiled and want everything. This product is just not for them, as hard as they want it to be. Let the amateurs have fun with their gear. Like, it's cheaper so duh it's going to have less features but at least (in my opinion) it got the basics covered. Take the A7CII for example. It's better both in photo and video, and features everything the S9 lacks, but it's also $2200. Even the ZV-E1, which also has neither a mechanical shutter or an EVF, is a whopping $2400 and it sells fine because it makes up for it with the video specs which admittedly surpasses the S9's, but again, $2400 vs $1500. The S9 is a simple and fine camera, and to whoever disagrees - it wasn't for you. Deal with it.
I beg all of us to switch the point of view from "is it going to be my new favorite hyperfixation to nerd out on ?" to analyzing a product for what it's worth. Because creators, especially the installed ones, have access to so much better gear, than price isn't really put in consideration here. They look at the specsheet and they're like, "meh, boring" because it doesn't compare to their $3000 pro camera that has every feature under the sun. This subject is as you can all see very important to me because as an aspiring photographer AND a student who didn't have a lot of money, my first FF camera was the EOS RP and I bought it mainly because it was a cheap entryway to FF. I know a lot of people think this way and are going to look at the S9 thinking about the price being an advantage. And I want coentent creators to be reminded of that.
i've been loving it more and more the more i use it
Bro same
@@connormccaskill the 35mm f1.8 is actually super lightweight. it's certainly a bit off balance because of the size of it, but it's actually really lightweight!
@@dvdaltizer exactly!
I had this camera for a few days and it's so much fun! I think the pro's outweighs the cons. Also, the footage from the Oslo Pocket 3 looks awesome!
Yeah I think so too! I think it’s just a camera people need to try first
Hey! Awesome video! One thing I haven’t heard people talk about is the audio mic pre amps on this camera, how are they? Are they loud, quiet, lot’s of hiss? Would be great to hear your thoughts on that!
So far the pre amps in this camera are like any other camera in this price bracket.
Honestly, if it had a viewfinder I would have jumped on it in a flash especially with the realtime luts feature but there’s nothing worse than trying to take a photograph or video clip in bright sunshine with a flip screen only.
You’ve got to give LUMIX credit though, there bang for buck is great.
So true! I think enough of us have said it now that version 2 may have it
Can you please check and see if it has PDAF for 100/120 fps in HD for regular and Apsc mode?
It works up to 100fps
@@9adriano21 thanks
When shooting stills, does the camera retrain its anamorphic desqueeze capability? I have no interest in this camera for video or serious photography work, but as a fun anamorphic stills camera, I find myself interested.
This was a paper bag full of fun!
Inspired by you
When is the S9 documentary coming out?
Has to be translated first! Hopefully soon
Terry's looking mighty concerned at 8:18 , haha
As he should
overprice misfit a small camera that takes full frame lens just what i need for???? no EVF???
Definitely snag a different camera if those are deal breakers. The S52 is always a stellar option
What’s confusing about the real time lut feature exactly?
Just the process to make them at first
@@connormccaskill Gotcha, thanks!
$500 more buys you a viewfinder in S5 ii
is that the main difference?
ok, i like LUT but I can do all that in post.
Open gate is interesting but when was the last time you wished to change format in post?
HIgh sync is very interesting.
Oh the S5II is still a better option for a lot of people
I'll never buy any camera without an EVF.
Fair opinion! EVFs are great!
@@connormccaskill Not opinion but fact for me. As a photographer who needs to see what I am shooting, I can't do without an EVF or optical finder. Try shooting fast-moving subjects like birds or sports within a back display. Also, think of people who need reading glasses to see the display. Obviously;y there are things that don't require critical focus or composition such as vlogging but there are still photographers who shoot stills and I am saying that as someone who used to shoot with 4x5 view cameras. Shooting while looking at a back display reminds me of that unpleasant experience. If at least they'd offer a removable EVF. I suppose most people like the shooting experience to be similar to shooting with their phones. Evolution into regression!
@@chronocommander007”fact for me” = opinion 👍
coke? should've got that pocari sweat lol
But Japanese Coke is so good
Yeah, you right, crispy bois ftw
Heads up, no not every camera will have this “LUT” feature. They can’t. Panasonic holds the patent.
Yeah I know, but they could do something in the vein of Fujifilm
@@connormccaskill Yep, but Panasonic was smart in protecting this implementation. Seems slick with the App. Just waiting for the iOS version so I can try it with my S5 II.
