    The Japanese niko niko run! I did it for the first time and lasted 3 miles without gasping for air. My heart rate went up a little at the end but I was sweating a lot more than fast walking. My legs are tired by the end but back and hips were fine. It took a lot of patience because I can finish the 3 mile faster if I was to walk fast.

    I do sprinting with L4/5 S1 disc herniation and hip osteoarthritis. I am in my mid fifties (and loving it!). Just learn to strengthen core, do resistance work, run bare feet often, and find your threshold and adapt your style to take the load off injured areas. This is instruction overkill with some technically correct points.

    Haha yea, I believe every Kenian do this too. This technique is also called Natural Running. Just take off your shoes and run. You will do it automatically because it is what our legs are designed to. Remember the movement you do and copy it with shoes, finished. You will feel like a running cat but get a lot of soar calves in the beginning because you absorb the shocks with your calves (forefoot strike) rather than with you shins (heel strike).

    There are some interesting points made in the video which are especially useful for those of us over 70. Apart from the irritating opening music, I did not find the accompanying track too intrusive thereafter. It was a somewhat amusing fail when the coach tried to explain Tai Chi, and then grinding to halt. Tumbleweed moment. There are more recent videos posted about Slow Running which are worth checking out. Anyway, I feel a lot better about my shuffling and plodding now! Whatever your own level, enjoy the fresh air and the freedom.

    There is a lot of defensiveness over here. Yes it is funny that people aren't familiar with proper running technique but I was one of them as well.
    Apparently I always used to push the ground away on impact, which is an unnecessary movement. To make it even worse I also used a heel strike which caused horrible tension.
    The idea of actually lifting your feet up and landing neutral or mid foot and let gravity pull you forward or backwards made a complete difference for me. I do have to clarify that I'm not a runner but this sure help on cardio days on the treadmill.
    To compensate for the forward lean I use an incline of about 5%, or more whenever I feel like it.
    Oh and instead of using a metronome to drive you insane, just count triplets and whenever you get the feel for the cadence it will become natural.

    • @alicewonderland7218
      @alicewonderland7218 6 лет назад +1

      I'm not sure about this technique, but I think it's like a flat landing, if you run on only the balls of the foot, you wouldn't last long. I think the point is that most joggers hit the ground with their heel and that's not the way for this practice. If you google slow jogging you will see a video of a Japanese man showing a lady how to do that (similar to this) and the video shows how joggers tend to hit the balls of their feet (which might be ok for running fast, but not for slow). I hope I didn't confuse you more, lol

      +Sophia Kopasakis good point. Everybody feet are in different shape. I would recommend all future readers of your post to try this. Get a tennis ball. Pick it up with your toes. Once, after weeks or months of training, one's foot and toes can grasp the tennis ball, you end up with very strong, resilient, flexible feet. I was told by a foot doctor there is no known way to strengthen the foot, and then He immediately encourage me to purchase one of his arch support inserts. Well, you can exercise your feet, like you can with your hands. And you can make them stronger. And this is just one of many exercises to achieve that aim. Best Regards...Mr.P.

      A real Chinese Tai Chi instructor makes you do a simplified version of something (just watch and do, very little talking) for days or months until you get it right. For this, they may make you balance something like a book on your head when you are home everyday. Western instructors spends a lot of time talking about how to do it and why this and that, but then when you are doing it you are thinking too much and can't get it right.

    The repetitious aligning handwork is just ridiculous and stupid ;-) just keep straight, lean forward and keep high cadence, what a mysterious magic with the registered trademark :P omg

      +Filip Haman when one learns to play the piano the way professional play, you need to perform such things with correct positioning of the limbs and body. Once they are subconsciously mastered, you can perform at a higher level because of them. You seem to have a self conscious problem, and that may very well be the real problem holding you back from actually testing this program to see if it suits your needs.

    Doesn't work if you don't stick you finger in your belly button. There is a secret energy buzzer that activates the glutes....aka also known as pelvic tilt

    This technique could be incorporated into traditional running - there's some good stuff in here. Yes, if you just did Chi running you'll like Goofy doing the Disney shuffle, and yes, other people will probably giggle, but applying some of the mechanics into traditional running could be really positive (and you'd look less Goofy-like).
