- Learn how to remove annoying hums, buzzes and phone interference from your audio using Adobe Audition!
No matter how you record your audio while shooting your film projects, you may end up with accidental humming or buzzing in the background or, even worse, have the blip-blip-blip of a cell phone receiving or sending an SMS.
But don't fret! Using Adobe Audition, it is fairly simple to remove the offending noise from your audio and in this tutorial I will show you how!

3 years later, this is the most understandable tutorial on hum and noise remover with high accuracy. Thank you sir!
No worries at all! Thank you for the comment :)
YES PLEASE! :D
I really need Adobe Audition Tutorials. Would love to see some here :)
+Chribit It's now on my official request list :) Just not sure when I'll get around to it!
Surfaced Studio awesome! thanks :)
+Surfaced Studio my AE projects dont have this.
Your AE projects don't have what?
+Surfaced Studio Do it!

Best tutorial on noise removal. Helped me get rid of my fan "hum" which was driving me crazy!!! Thanks!!!!
Awesome! Glad to hear my tutorial helped :)
I NEED videos on Adobe audition! Please make more!!!!
+Yours Truly I'm putting it on the list :)
We definitely need more adobe audition videos!
+potatoheadftw I've put them on my request list :)
+Surfaced Studio Can't wait!
That actually worked perfectly almost with little to no quality loss. You are legit.
Thank you! May not work in all instances, but if your noise is very clearly distinct from your foreground sound it'll work a treat!
Wow - I had not even considered the sound remover. I used noise reduction followed by noise gate. I will try this method. Thanks!
Please make an absolute basics tutorial! Your absolute basics for Premiere has been so helpful!
It's been on my to-do list forever, just not sure when I might get around to it :)
Hello Tobias. Yes. . I would really appreciate whatever beginners tutorials on Adobe Audition that you could make.
Your teaching style is clear, informative and amusing, making it easy to watch and learn.
Thanks.
+RichardR1950 Hi, thanks for the feedback. It's in my backlog, just not sure when I'll get around to it :)
Thank you for the tutorial! I bought the Adobe Suite and didnt bother downloading Audition until I watched this tutorial. Thanks!
+eragon poncho There's tons of great tools in the Adobe Suite. I'm on Adobe CC myself and discovering more cool stuff each month!
Having some trouble in finding a tutorial that fits my need, I accidentally come across this video. And well I love this!! i certainly agree that you should do more videos on the settings! Great job!
Thank you very much for the feedback! Very happy to hear that you enjoyed the tutorial!
Thank you! Please, do more Audition tutorials. All your tutorials are GREAT!
It's one of the many things on my to do list :)
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I have been banging my head up against the wall with some bad audio from a short film I directed. Using Adaptive or Noise reduction just weren't cutting it. But this is a freakin miracle. THANKS Surfaced Studio!
You are very welcome, glad to hear it worked so well for you :)
This was really helpful, thanks. I decided to try audition, since I heard it is better than audacity. But it's another obstacle for me to overcome. But it wouldn't be fun if it was too easy
A challenge is always exciting as long as you can see the peak you're trying to reach. Thank you for the feedback :)
It's hardly better.
I know this was made 3 years ago. But bro, you are awesome! You just saved me on an animation project for school! Thx a bunch!
Thank you for the awesome comment! Great to hear the video is still useful :D
Thanks for the video Tobias! I have always used Noise Print & Noise Reduction. Now I'm going to give Sound Remover a try.
+Aspiration :) See how you go, I do really like it and use it a fair bit - though I prefer trying to avoid ending up with noise on my audio track to begin with haha
Surfaced Studio Haha good advice.
Thanks! I love this tool. I would love to see a more in-depth tutorial on it, perhaps explaining the settings in more detail.
Thank you! I am not sure I am technical enough to really dig into it quite at that level. I do plan to make some other Audition tutorials though when I get a chance
I look forward to anything you post regarding Audition. I'm having to mix my short film, (learning on the fly). I'm having trouble omitting unwanted Track Panning in the session that is exported from Premiere. The Panning that was applied to a track (as opposed to clip panning) seems tricky to get rid of.
First, I thank you very much for your videos. I love your channel, and really enjoy the way you guys teach, I truly appreciate it! You said you'd be willing to add beginner videos for Adobe Audition. It'd be such a huge help for those of us that are just starting out. Thanks so much!!!
Hi, glad to hear you're enjoying my tutorials :) I do have a beginner tutorial for Audition on my to-do list, just hard to tell when I'll finally get around to it. Things seem to be getting in the way
So Audition is good for sound editing, what about voice recording? Any software you could recommend? PS: I've been watching all your tutorials non-stop for the last couple of weeks. Definitely the best channel for adobe tutorials. Keep it up!
wow !!! how easily you teached this technique . yup !!! we need more adobe audition videos !!!! thanks for this and upcoming videos !!!!!!!
On Audition CC 2017, for electrical hum, noise reduction worked a lot better than the process on my video. Thanks.

Thank you for the comment :) Unfortunately I am on the latest version now as I'm subscribed to the Adobe Creative Cloud - and I won't be able to get access to the older versions any more

Liked it better than other denoiser, though later in the clip it did make me sound like I had a lisp (which was a tradeoff I thought worth it).
Please do a beginner tutorial-- these are great!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! A beginner tutorial has been on my to-do list for a (very) long time. Hope to get around to it someday :)
Thank you. It was very nice and clear explained.
:D
I think audio for youtube creators (I think more there are more of them, then filmmakers anyway) is more important. Fact that content with bad video quality but good sound is slightly better then with bad sound and good vid. I hope I will get support with this comment)
+Миша Штуцберг Bad audio can ruin any video out there so it always pays to watch out to get a good sounding audio track in the end :)
Another great one. I needed this. Thanks!!!!!
+Marauder Pictures Glad to hear, thank you!
I would love more Adobe Audition Tutorials
+Arcanum Luminarium :) I've put it onto my request list

+Kiriot22 Thank you :)
Great tutorial as always!
+Mervin Ling Thanks man :)
nice work . keep it up . and another thing ..please can you make a toutrial about removing background music from songs
+Emad Eljoker Hi, there is no simple way to 'remove background music from songs'. Have a look into things like multi band compression, frequency analysis (and extraction) and other audio effects. It's not an easy process and depends on every single song and what you are trying to achieve
I appreciate everything you do.
Thank you very much for the feedback!
I'd love to get some Adobe Audition tutorials! :)
+Camaner Will put it on my long list :)
hi good tutorial, also, do you have any experience with FL studio, i have heard it also has some good noise removing features...
Never used FL Studio before
Thank you saved my life.

Thankyou so much bro! it worked! finally
THNX For The AWESOME Tutorial!!!
+Nakshatra Roy No worries, thanks for watching!
Great tutorial, thanks so much!
No worries!
Thanks for the video! That was a very helpful video on Adobe Audition. I am considering purchasing this software so would you please make a beginners video so I can learn the basics. Thank you Surfaced Studio.
+Azotus Software Hi, glad you enjoyed the video. I've put it on my request list, just never sure when I'll get around to it :)
Thank you for considering my request. :)
All through, i found it out that the best effect you will have if you use both, noise reduction and sound remover. I realize that by looking at frequency display and comparing the images. It didnt have the least effect on the speech that i was recording. Thank me later.
Great tutorial Tobias! Just on the subject of audio. What's a good way to get a good balance of voice/sound effects/ music that you add to a video that would sound good on all devices. Phone, computer, TV etc? Is there a general rule? Or is it a case that you upload the video and then have to listen to it all and then adjust it all?
+Mike Burdick thanks Mike, I thought so but you never know unless you put the question out there. Most views are on phones, laptops would be next. My videos sound ok on both but when played on the TV via the PS4 the sound was all over the place!
If it was then to be adjusted to sound better on the TV it would probably then sound terrible on the other two devices
+Mike Burdick yes it was on the TV speakers only, I should've listened to it with the surrounds sound on. Are those tutorials you're talking about on your channel? The other problem is one of my videos has breaking glass sounds ( high pitched) which seems to cancel out when played on my phone. Any idea about that one?
+Mike Burdick thanks Mike for your help much appreciated it's a video that I already had completed and uploaded on my channel. Too late to fix it now but next time I'll give your advice a go
Thanks again
+lozaus1 Really awesome to see everyone help each other :) Thanks to Mike for the detailed answers!
Are you going to do a video about the new Adobe After Effects CC? There are many new things things to learn to us.
+Area Awesome Depends a bit on whether I have the time for it :) Haven't been too impressed with CC 2015 so far, been having lots of technical / bug issues
Bloody brilliant!! Thank you.
No problem at all!

Nice video, I hope you make more Adobe Audition tutorials soon.
+PokeFlinchHax Lots of cool tutorials to create (for all sorts of good tools). It's now officially on my radar
yup me too.. I want to learn more from you !!
:)
Cool ! My very first introduction to Abode Audition. Looks interesting to improve the audio quality !!! Thanks once more :-)
+JCTV France Glad you liked it Sebastien, thank you :) I do use Audition a fair bit, mainly for these sort of early clean ups. My final audio I usually do in Cubase as I have much more control over the final mix of all the different audio tracks. But I'm likely going to create a few more tuts for Audition as well :)
sounds good :-)
Super helpful, thanx!
Great to hear!

thanks man its really helped me
Great to hear, thank you :D
I'm really interested in the way you introduce your channel Surfaced Studio from 1:01 to 1:07. Could you show me how to create an introduction like that. Thanks you very much.
Thank you :) I actually just created a bunch of paint splat layers in Photoshop and then hand animated them in After Effects to come in like that. Added a bit of Twitch (plugin) to it for the noise and the text is done with the Disintegration effects from Video Copilot (they have a tutorial up on their site) :)
Just incredible.
Might not work for all situations, but it's a nifty little feature - and I actually use it a lot to kill background noise :D
Hi Tobias, I'd like to have a tutorial for the basics of the time freeze effect, with adding in 3d objects, is that something you could look into, and maybe make a tutorial on? :)
+Vilhelm3989 It's one of those requests on my list in the backlog. There's quite a few tutorials for that out there already, I think final cut king (or vfxbro) has one on their channel that is worth checking out :)
Surfaced Studio okey, thanx. I'll have a look at that :)
