Fantastic tutorial. Working on an 8 hour audiobook recorded over 1 week so needed a lot work getting it to sound consistent - your tutorial was a Godsend. Thanks
Jason, thank you so much for this video. This has been a game changer for me. I couldn't figure out how to level my sounds without losing dynamics. Once again, thanks.
This has been the best video that I have seen on Audio Training! I'm going to review and stick with your videos because you actually explain the functions of the tools instead of just giving you numbers to set to everything like I have seen so many do and I feel this is important as starting up engineer to learn! Especially if you are a R&B singer like me who's trying to learn how to engineering his own audio! Thank You Very Much Jason !!!
You are amazing .. I love your way of rationale things and justify using those effects. I've seen many videos and people go fast and don't explain the reason behind using effects. Thanks for sharing, man.
Thank you for this video Jason!!!!! I was looking for the exact same answer for a very long time. This was just the absolute perfect explanation I could hope for. Thanks!!!
I love your videos, for years I had issues with click sounds and you tough in other video how to use histogram and saved my life. Now you explained how to do normalization in proper way (second method is what I was looking for for ages)
This tutorial finally helped me understand why we may want to use these features and for what. Lot of tutorials on RUclips simply ask us to use a hard value/amount without any explanation, requiring us to just wing it. Thanks for this video!
I’ve been doing voiceover for a few months and I’ve acquired a really good amount of skill just from hour after hour of editing, but this tutorial will help me quite a bit. It’s not uncommon for there to be a thin section that gets louder, but even when zooming in and selecting infinity on both sides and manually lowering that peak (we’re talking maybe a tenth of a second of audio), it will often create clicks that won’t edit out. So this will save me a ton of time and headache. Thank you!
I recognize I didn't expect much after watching your presentation. God I was wrong. Thanks I decided to watch it. You made me understand what a lot other better presented did not even came close. Can't thank you enough. Got a thumb up and a suscribe!
Still relevant even with updated versions of Adobe; you got the explanations of the differences between the three different ideas down very well. Cheers!
I have to say I have learned so much from your videos, you are an amazing teacher and you really explain things perfect. I understand the way you are teaching and I love it. So thank you so much. my voice overs and animation is so much better because of you.
Great reminders! I've been working on refining my Adobe Audition skills ever since I started using it. Lately, I've revisted some of the things I always do when I make a voice recording. Your video has helped me rethink some of the steps I use to producing the best audio possible.
I just want to say: THANK YOUUUUU!!! For creating this tutorial!! God damn, I needed this video! Keep up the good work! You have a new subscriber! =) Cheers from Sweden!
Great Video Jason, thank you for this, I'm finalzing my audiobook for ACX and your explanations have really helped me to ensure I meet the ACX standards --- Excellent tutorial and easy to understand!!
Hi Jason, thanks for the video. You made it easy for a clueless guy like me just starting to try to understand working with audio. I was having trouble figuring out to reduce my high points in the recording when I spoke too loud.
Dude you went like 4 years between uploads?! Awesome explanation in this video. Way less confusing than other guys trying to teach audio tools on video editors. You should make some more audio videos though!
Thanks so much for this video man. I recently recorded some ambient sounds which has a lot of rouge peaks. I was going to scrap the whole recording until I saw this video. Thanks so much 😊
Hi Jason, it's been great watching your informative video. I have learnt a lot. However, I have seen it and enjoyed you explaining the techniques. I don't know if I do it just like that or have difficulty doing it. But still, I have your video to guide. Thank you so much!
Super video on these concepts. I'm cleaning up an old audio recording from 1973. Awful sound. I'm going to use these processes and let you know how it sounds. I'm completing a documentary and this audio clip will be the last quote audiences hear. So it's very important. Thank you very much!
Good Tutorial. Your voice audio quality is so excellent. If I compare to other popular you-tubers they are doing way to much compression on their voice overs its not sounding natural. Its like difference listening to open back head headphone (Your process Voice Quality) and closed back headphones (other pro-You-tubers)
Hi Jason, Nice video! Clear, concise explanations with just enough repetition. Thank you! So, I'm doing audiobook narration with multiple characters, therefore plenty of dynamic range (my low-end voices for mature women or male characters are not as loud as my voices for women under 40 or children characters). I'm thinking maybe I should use light compression as well as some limiting and then normalize. Is there a "standard" order to go about this? Compress, then limit, then normalize? or limit first? I know there's gear about there that has a compressor/limiter all in one, but I'm not sure why or how the audio chain runs through them. I plan to mess around and experiment, but thought you might have a tip for the starting point. Thanks!!!!
Hey +loverley99 sorry I missed your comment :( For audiobooks I typically start by matching the volume of all files involved (if you have one file, then that doesn't apply) then I compress a little, normalize, check RMS levels and then hard limit and normalize again to get to where I want to be. If there is a LOT of dynamic range, you'll need more compression and hard limiting. I don't recommend using compression and limiting on the signal during recording. If you don't have it set quite right you can ruin the audio and never get it back. If you do it all with software, you can undo it and start over if you mess it up. If anything on the input, I would only use a very light compressor (like 1.5:1 ratio) just to smooth it out a tiny bit. If you set your gain correctly, you shouldn't need to use a hard limiter. Let me know if you have any specific questions!
Great tutorial! Everything was explained very clearly. Having worked a lot with video interviews, I have used hard limiting to bring up my audio levels by setting the max. amplitude above the highest peak (like you demonstrated here) and also giving it some input boost. This raises the peaks to the given max. amplitude and also raises the more quieter parts by the amount of input boost you dial in. So in essence you get compression and normalization with just one command. Is this anyhow worse than compressing and normalizating separately?
You sir, are blessed with a great voice for VO. The mic loves you. Very good video.
Fantastic tutorial. Working on an 8 hour audiobook recorded over 1 week so needed a lot work getting it to sound consistent - your tutorial was a Godsend. Thanks

Hey thanks! I appreciate the kind words!
I'm in the exact same position man. Feels good to find such great content !
You are amazing .. I love your way of rationale things and justify using those effects. I've seen many videos and people go fast and don't explain the reason behind using effects. Thanks for sharing, man.

You have an amazing voice Jason! I could just listen because of the voice, lol, but I did learn about normalization. Thank you.

The best explination so far
