    While I couldn't notice much difference in the audio here, I still tried it on one of my audio files and it worked perfectly. The difference was noticeable and the parametric equalizer really helped, thank you

    I've been using Audacity, not Audition, but his helped me a lot in understanding where to find the frequency for the echo. I wasn't able to remove all of it, but did get rid of a large percentage of it with noise reduction and a bit more by tinkering with the gain at higher frequencies. The latter seems to be more effective if I go piece by piece through the audio, as the same settings didn't work for the entire thing.

    • @MikeRussell

      Hi, this is an old video and if you're using Audacity it's the best way to achieve this still but since this was made Audition has now included a DeReverb facility.

    Is there a way to remove the type of echo that you get from a microphone recording to video? This and other tutorials are touching on the spatial room echo. I haven't found a video to resolve my particular issue. Any help is appreciated.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  3 года назад

      The best way to remove echo is to make sure you're recording in an acoustically suitable area

  • @RobertShaverOfAustin
    @RobertShaverOfAustin 7 лет назад +6

    This is something I need frequently. What I don't understand in your video is what you heard when using the two parametric eqs. What did you hear that told you those were the pesky frequencies. Was it the volume of those frequencies or was it some quality of the sound that you heard?
    *EDIT:* I went back and tried to hear what you heard. I thought those two spots had kind of a hollow quality. Is that what you heard?
    (This is the most important part of any tutorial for me. That is pointing out what quality you are focusing on. This is the more important part of learning from an expert. I do video editing and in the tutorials on, for example, color correction, the instructor seldom is very specific on why he/she chooses the changes being made. "That's the art," is often said or "Make it look they way you want it." What I want to know is what this particular artist likes and why.)
    Thanks for all your great tutorials. I watch them all the time and always give a _like_.

    • @LordAshbury
      @LordAshbury 6 лет назад

      Yes it's the hollow spots. If you're listening to your playback on room monitor speakers and not headphones, those audio frequencies might actually pierce the threshhold (think nails on a blackboard). You'll generally know it right away. If you have to do a sweep in a quiet listening environment, you can also ways the audio levels; bad frequencies always spike isolated from the good ones.

      I sometimes get audio that has a duddling up on the voice, bit like an echo, this is hard to get rid of
      Any suggestions?

    why i do not see EQ (moving) when press play in Parametric equalizer?

  • @owenpaxton4664
    @owenpaxton4664 4 года назад +2

    The reason it doesn't sound different it because he's doing noise (hiss) removal instead of reverb removal. You can buy plugins for reverb removal, but Premiere/ Audition 2020 comes with it as standard (called DeReverb).
    The parametric equaliser trick he does can help sometimes, but compressors tend to make reverb sound worse.

You heavily denoised it, comb filtered it to death, boosted high frequency noises back into the audible zone, then compressed it just to bring more reverb back into it. Good job.

    CoolEditPro2.0 -> Audition is my app of choice. But too much NR creates chirping sound, too much parametric EQ makes robot sound as well. I never put thoose naughty bands to -15, as it is worse than before. A good duck compression also helps with echo. After all is done, some grain should be added to mask missing info (mastering tools).

    I tend to shy away from anything like this. No matter how much you dial it in, you still hear the background noise while the person is talking, it's very apparent that it goes away when the person isn't talking. I think this is actually more distracting than if the static is there the whole time. You're literally grabbing the listener's attention, pointing to the steep difference in static. For this, I find it's just better to just denoise. Do it to the point that the person speaking still sounds the same. If you have multiple tracks, it's much better to denoise each track that needs it, rather than working with all tracks through a bus. The different vocals are usually quite different from one another when it comes to background noise.

    You are not capturing the room sound on a quiet part. As a room just doesn't magically create noise by itself, you need a sound that will bounce of the walls, hence the only thing you do capture is the microphone noise, which you then can remove with the Noise reduction process.
    I'm not doing a whole lot of video audio as I normally work with music, but I have found that Adobe doesn't provide any actually useful reverb removal. Both audition and premiere introduce more phasing problems than removing the reverb, it usually only works on very very low reverb that almost is not a problem, so in most cases where you'd actually need it, its useless. Izotope RX7 for instance does a way better job at this, and is good for isolating other sources against others aswell. Like removing vocals from a song for instance. Accusonus ERA 4 Also is a very good option.

    He moves too fast and assumes the people watching knows something about audio. I wish this tutorial was done keeping in mind that the people watching probably knows nothing about audio and explain in detail what each terminology involved in the video does and how it affects the audio overall. so, when you make certain changes, this is what to expect or not expect.

      Thanks so much for the feedback. There are some more beginner videos on my channel. I'll be sure to slow down some more on future tutorials of this type. Thanks!

    It didn't work at all, and it didn't seem to work for anybody else either, probably because we don't see the point of buying £5,000 microphones. Disliked.
