Advanced Noise Reduction in Audition

  • Audition has been the king of noise reduction ever since its introduction from Adobe but sometimes cleaning up noise can be difficult when the background noise overwhelms the foreground audio. If you've ever experienced one of these problematic files where removing the noise introduces other artifacts like a "burbly background", then this episode will help you understand powerful settings like Spectral Decay Rate and Smoothing that help control those artifacts and just remove the noise.

    Thanks Colin! Even though this video is for a much older version of Audition. Your settings, especially with that "Smoothing" setting of 980 really saved my dialog on this stubborn, noisy (NYC) exterior location sound.

    Wonderful! Really epic noise reduction tutorial! One point though, just say it's processor intensive once, you don't need to repeat it at three different times and elaborate on those repeats 'ad nauseum', it's processor intensive, yes, got it... just say it once, and done. Other than than, great video!

    Any idea how to fix low bitrate audio artifacts with audition? I know you can't recover sth. is not there, but the artifacts may have same frequency which we can lower for not hearing as much as in the original?

  • @bigstudwithaguitar
    @bigstudwithaguitar 7 лет назад

    Thank You Colin! I don't even like mixing in audition. I have audition for one reason only... and that's the noise reduction.
    I've got a question for you though... I want live noise reduction plugin to go with Ableton. It doesn't have to be PERFECT, but I would LOOVE it if it had a "noise capture" think like Audition (or at least a way to convert an audition capture point into usable information for setting a fine tuned noise reduction vst.
    Like I said, it doesn't need to be perfect, I just want it good enough to play my noisy strat into guitar rig without getting a noise feedback loop (and yes, I know headphones are an option, but feedback loops can be GOOD when you are trying pinch harmonics.
    any suggestions?

    Hey Colin,
    Really enjoyed your tutorial! Unfortunately, I seem to have had a bit of trouble. I followed your tutorial step by step with an audio clip from an interview that I exported and imported from Premiere Pro into Audition. Sadly, the audio became very distorted after I applied the noise reduction process settings from your video. I realize that those specific settings correspond to the clip you were using but I have tried adjusting and readjusting the settings and advanced settings and can't seem to diminish the gurgily metallic after effect that is given to the my friend's voice after using the noise reduction process. If you could help I would greatly appreciate it.

    the file still sounds somewhat tinny at the end. is there any way to get around that?
    Would you use other effects after the fact to kind of try to mend that metallic sound you get? EQ, multiband compression... something like that?

    • @AdobeColin
      @AdobeColin  8 лет назад +1

      +Drew Bruggman You can definitely minimize it by tweaking the settings in that effect, I was doing it rather quickly in the demo. There is no single setting as there are always different problems in different files. Yes you could use the Parametric EQ to identify a problem frequency and drop it.
