Happy Adventure Thursday friends! We hope today's video fills you with the joy of seeing visions come to life 🤗Sending you sunny hugs (and please 👍 + sub if you haven't yet, we can only beat that RUclips algorithm together). Lotsa ❤️, Mr and Mrs A (and Spirit and Lucky Blue too!)
No matter what I’m doing on the side when the video plays, I actually do the breath and smile at the “anddd nowwww...” part. Instant mood lifter. Thank you Brittany 🤗🥰
Cool! Did you build one too? There is a steel spine that extends about 4 inches under the top swing arm 2 inch adapter. This is something we built near the end of the episode so that it would prevent the sag on the carrier while in locked position. So far it's been working great! If any issue at all, it's the extra play/twist within the adapter that leaves the bike leaning a bit heavy in towards the rear of the bike when loaded. When driving and the arm is locked, there are no instability issues.
I love your video, it's inspiring, beautiful and put me in a good mood. Your video has the effect of igniting the wanderlust inside us, inspiring us, and encouraging us to start doing something new with our lives. That is why I decided to write this......
You guys always put a smile on my face! Great job on the swingarm...from concept to completion. What a benefit to have a skilled family member like Chad and a life partner like Brittany!!!
Well done guys. It was so nice of Chad to help Drew with the swing arm big project. He certainly knows his stuff. Very impressed with his workshop equipment. This will surely simplify your journeys. Safe travels lovelies. 🥰
Thank you so much Guys for every single episode i am Covid positive right now ;o( so I watch all your episodes and thank you for amazing positive energy ...thank you so much
Keeping you in our prayers 🙏We hope you don't experience symptoms and that you are back to feeling better than ever in no time! 💛 you are never alone 💛
I’ve been working on my van and missed a week seein all my fav Van Life peeps 💜 My nephew is a welder by trade, he’s going to customize a front bumper bat with fold out e- bike carrier👍 Your cousin Chad rocked that custom swing arm WOW. Family are always our rock💙
you should have placed the two long swing arms side by side and not on top of each other. It causes friction/drag the length of the arms when you swing back to position due to the load of the bike. Side by side would only need a horizontal support plate at the hitch end where the two arms meet to help with the swing armload. That's where you can also place the locking pin. having used rectangular than square tubing will provide better support and less flex/bending due to load. You guys did great doing the R&D and making it work.
Hey guys, great job! One proposal for next "carrier-service" - to prevent wobbling (see minutes 18.30, 18.37, 20.55), you could weld another 2" support arm close to the pivot point rectangular to the swing arm and connect its end with your aluminum "ladder". This will support the back tire of your motorcycle and will prevent the whole construction from wearing out soon. Good luck!
Yes that’s an idea. We had the clasp mechanism rewelded as we broke it on some bumpy roads in Michigan this summer. ruclips.net/video/p-l40Botnfo/видео.html Other than that, So far so good. We love having the bike with us!
added to your invention , 2 each m/c streaps from the outside of the m/c support to the ladder to help hold he m/c in place, the outside straps will take more support over the bumps on the road instead of the way ou have it set up. i built a harbor freight carrier bigger in length . stock dimension were 50"wide, x 21"long, now its 50"wide x 40" long. it carrys 2 250# boxes on the rear, with support eye bolts in the be. i strap the outside of the carrier, over the tailgate into the eye bolt, you can use eye bolts or klits mounted on top of the van or anchors and for support?
Congratulations on the great work! If you believe in yourself you can do a lot! What is also very nice that you both notice how much you love each other! 🤗💜
If you’re going to Alaska, you need to check out an old abandoned copper mine near McCarthy Alaska. A remote place where people live off grid and sustainable living.
Might want to add a few more things to the wrack build, like a bearing on the swing bolt, and a second hitch on the bike wrack to the swing arm. And that should make it more stable. and if you want to get tricky, you could reposition the bike mount so that the bike is more centered to the van.
Thank you Chad! I love the cameos from the people you love in your videos 🤗 Drew, since there’s more space between the bike and doors than you expected, how about attaching storage boxes to the back doors? Very convenient for smelly/dirty stuff you don’t want in the van, like fuel, oil, grease, some tools, dirt rags, coal and wood for fires, etc... 🤔 🔥 🏍 🛠 🧰
That's a good idea! We ended up moving the hitch in and there isn't much extra room for boxes. The space we utilize for that is the passenger floorboard since Brittany's legs don't reach down there 😉 haha
WOW great video guys, ive been trying to design this for the last 8 months. I'm so in need of this for my van. Can you assist me in any drawings or measurements to attempt to build this please?
Another great watch 🤟🏻 - whoever picks your music … I just love it 😍 Well done and keep em coming !!! And I say ass - made me laugh when drew said arse lol
That is such a great device you guys built! I recently started carrying my wr250R outside my van, because it was starting to get too crowded inside my van. but now i need one of those swing arms... and a chad! lol
Hey Drew, pleased i found you guys tonight- a fellow kitesurfer entering vanlife. I've also been wanting to change from the big GS1200A to your bike (going 2-stroke is to big a jump!) - and not sure my sprinter 170 build weight is going to handle it (not planning to go dually) so wondering if you could help me by estimating how much the swing arm and bike added? And was this after your 8550lbs (3850kg)? Thanks a lot in advance!
Awesome moto carrier! I haven’t seen a lot of people add a dual sport onto their full timing rig but what a great way to bomb around. Im looking forward to some 2 wheel adventure vids! I’ll be carrying my ‘02 KLR 250 on the back of my 34’ diesel pusher when my wife and I hit the road at the end of the month. Cheers!
Great job, looking to do this same/similar build with my dad next week. Did y’all end up cutting down the length of the receiver insert on the bike carrier? If so, how much and did you place a new hole for the stabilizer tabs?
Cool! Yes, we did cut it down. A drill press before it was assembled and welded. Good luck building. Having the moto with us has been so much fun over the past year!
I was thinking of doing the same on our van but I have a few questions. What’s the weight of your bike, carrier and swing arm? And what’s the tongue weight of your hitch? Have you done any mods to strengthen the hitch? I’m super excited to see your future videos to include trips on the bike. Too bad you didn’t have the bike when in the Bay Area. You could’ve took a trip to Metcalf and Hollister Hills. If you come back, maybe you can check them out.
We are really glad we did this! Our bike is 290lbs, but with a few extras and fuel my guess is it's closer to 340lbs now. Our Sprinter is a 2500 (dually) the hitch weigh is rated at 750lbs so there is no need to change the hitch design. Just wait till we get back to the mountains and coast 😊🏍💨
Have you found any pre-built solutions like this since you built it? I know thats why you built a custom one... wondering if any pre-built options have become apparent? Thanks! PS: Love your travel vids
Love it! I wonder if there's an available option out there supporting up to 450lbs-500lbs. It seems that there's only the Rakattach, but it support up to 275lbs only! 😬
That's pretty cool Drew if you can't buy it just make your own... most people wouldn't be able to do that very impressive! Even though Brittany has to use for big girl muscles to close it LOL... as always guys you're a joy to watch stay safe thank you for sharing and all day yesterday Britney it's your fault I thought about it as soon as I woke up all day 🙄it was anticipation Wednesday😁❤❤❤ LOL
💯 ❤️ to U 2.... Suggestion for under Support... add a side jack (or under jack) at the end of swing arm, for sturdiness when arm with bike is extended!
Thank you! 😘 We have thought about putting a tongue wheel on it for when it's extended. We realized as long at it holds properly and can be swung into locked position there is no reason to have more support. We never intend to move the vehicle while it's extended.
I'll never forget when I (well I almost forgot until this video) was 15 and stole my dads CB750F and took it for a joyride! I clobbered something and it cracked the engine case, the metal engine guard was in the mail and hadn't arrived yet 😆
@@Mrandmrsadventure my sore ankle and my dad and I were cool, it was my straight laced Canadian mum that got her panties in a bunch 😯 Drew, I like that extra support on the passenger side of the swing arm 👏

My favorite part every time, "Let's take in a deep breath and let it out."
Loved the spot at the beginning. Every time Brittany asks us to breathe I feel better immediately
No matter what I’m doing on the side when the video plays, I actually do the breath and smile at the “anddd nowwww...” part. Instant mood lifter. Thank you Brittany 🤗🥰
I have one of those racks. If you add a rear support the goes from the swinging arm under the rear of the rack, it wouldn't rock and be more stable.
Cool! Did you build one too? There is a steel spine that extends about 4 inches under the top swing arm 2 inch adapter. This is something we built near the end of the episode so that it would prevent the sag on the carrier while in locked position. So far it's been working great! and you bring us joy every time we get to "hear" from you 💛😘
Thanks for taking the extra time to add the chapters guys.. makes it easy to hop back and watch something again :)
Thanks for this feedback. We appreciate knowing this 😊

How lovely for us watching in RUclips land to meet some of Drew’s family. Those girls are adorable ❤️
They are!
Its always nice having the right tools and family helping out on any problems and projects that you may need help with.
Amazing the way you took a plan/idea and furnished it out of a bunch of parts. I was glued to this video until the very end. Great job!
Aww that means so much, thank you for spreading your support and positivity 💛

We are lucky to know him! Now we can get to our adventure gear in the back doors without unloading the moto
Fantastic swinging bike arm design and execution! There's nothing you all can't do! 🤗 Hats off to the fam for helping!

Yes that's an idea and would add more support. We don't want to drill screws into the outside of our van. The rack has been performing great so far.
Yakima adds a small screw jack to support the pivot point to the ground before swinging the mount out. A bottle jack would work.
Great job. Very interesting. I watch you religiously every week on my tv during my lunch. My weekly ritual. Thx sooo much. 😘

Yes, we apply that mantra to all things we do. ❤️
You and your cousin are rockstars man! Awesome JOB!
I admire u both and the way u think, spread inspiration, and make make ur videos.
i reckon some extra greased washers beneath that pivot bolt wudda helped reduce the friction of swinging the loaded rack ?
nice. mounting my diy unit on driver side ..less walk around in camp.. adding fuel cell too..

Nice bike! It's all so custom to our van shape and size. The length of the 2 inch square pipes (the arms) are 35.5 inches.

Question? Is that a semi rusting bar on the back of your van? I'm sure you treated it. I'm just jumping ahead.🙂
