Thank you SO much for this video with the RAKAttach I have been trying to figure out a way to use my tailgate without having to offload my bike constantly. 😍 looking into this now
I don't have this brand but I carry my DR650 on a similar carrier. Downside is eventually having my bike strapped down tight in the front blew my fork seals. Now I have a plastic T that won't let the forks fully compress, best $16 I've spent for hauling my bike.
Thanks for watching and also sharing. Many people had mentioned that over the years but luckily we never had a problem with ours. Maybe it's a TW thing. We had that bike on back down any kind of road for years and about 30,000 miles. It held up pretty good for the beating it took. I'll definitely look into one if we start hauling a lot again.
Thanks! We've seen them strapped down all sorts of ways but the way we've been doing it seems to work. Glad to hear someone that knows what they are talking about saying we did okay.
I'm assuming you close down the ratcheting mechanism completely. Looks good though. I use soft straps around the lower triples but it's a full size enduro bike. These things still sketch me out even though I'd only be putting 250 lbs max bike and on a 2nd generation Tundra. :) TW is a very cool bike !
Sorry for the late response. I just found your comment. I do close the ratchet. The rack also scared me for a long time....thoughts of failure and watching the bike tumbld down the road in my mirror. But we've tested it thoroughly on nasty roads and it just keeps going. I also have a low deductible on the bike just in case. Thank you for watching!

Yeah, that was a firm requirement for us! We knew it would be so much of a pain to have to take the bike on and off every time we needed to get in the back that the swing arm was non-negotiable!
Well.... I watched a van tour video you did, loved the TW200 and your set up... so, just bought a 2019 gently used today. Just unloaded it and wanted to say thanks to you for all this info. I’ll be ordering this tow package as well. Exciting!

Thanks for watching! That was one of our early videos before we were paying for music. It should be better these days. 😉 I do believe they ship internationally if you really want one.
To add to crazyivans comment, there is also a possibility of the bike coming undone, if the suspension flexes enough to loosen a hook. What you need are loops made for carrying a bike. The go between the fender and fork slider, or lower. That makes it a very solid connection, rather than one that can flex. You have been fortunate if nothing has happened so far.
Thanks for watching and also sharing. We put it on pretty tight so there probably isn't a lot of flex left available to let it get loose. We put over 50k miles on it over all kinds of roads and luckily haven't had an issue. With that said, it sounds like there is a better way.
This is TW 200 is just the proprer bike for travelling with a van. Not small, not big, easy to fix, can go everywhere with it and super easy to handle. It is exactly the same body than the Suzuki VanVan
Exactly! We even thought about buying the Van Van, but went with the Tdub instead because of the tires, ground clearance and it holds its value. Both great bikes though! Easy to ride, cheap to fix, the perfect size!

Hey guys, didn’t know ya had a YT! We met real quick in Ketchum in June at Frenchmen’s with the Kooks, think you were heading off to go fishing? Anyway neat vid, good job. The straps with the clip are great for staying secure but consider a fork brace or fork saver, you can make one out of a chunk of wood but it goes between the fender and front of the machine to prevent your forks from fully compressing and prolonging life of your seals. You also might consider running just a single rear strap right over the back tire. That’ll allow the rear suspension to move and less stress on the hauler. Aside from that ya nailed it, safe secure convenient hauling system. We just made a hauler vid cause we entertain so many questions related to our set up - check it if interested. Our back table is the jam! The rest of our vids are super moto centric but there’s a whole Idaho series you might dig. I’ll smash that sub button and sniff around at more of your vids!
Oh yeah, hey Mike! Thanks for the tip on the front fork, that's very helpful! Sounds like you had an awesome summer in Idaho! We'll check out your YT channel for sure! Thanks for the sub and hopefully we'll run into again on the road one day! Cheers!
Thanks! I searched really hard to find someone making a swing out that could handle more weight. I was never successful. Our friends had a fabrication shop beef theirs up but they weren't stoked on the results. Luckily it works great for out use.
I have a Rak Attach and a OneUp rack for carrying bicycles. They are very well made. However, the weight limit on the Rak Attach, from their website, is rated at 275lbs. I think you are at or over their rated weight limit if you include the weight of the carrier. I'd never carry a motorcycle heavier than what you are carrying with the Rak Attach. I might carry something lighter - and still feel semi-comfortable. I have a truck camper where I need rear access. But I'll end up getting to camp, remove my 350 lb KTM, and then just remove the motorcycle carrier from my hitch receiver. Creates extra work but it's safer imo.
Thanks for watching! We definitely wouldn't carry anything heavier than our bike on it and we have been testing its limitations for sure. We've always figured the weight rating would be for it in its weakest position (open). I either unload the bike for extended stays or lift up on the front as I swing it if I need something quick. We've put about 40,000 miles on it on all sorts of roads and haven't personally had any issues yet. With everything though.......we always recommend people to use at their own risk. They recently came out with version 2.0 which looks stronger (same weight rating) and I've also heard of folks taking it to a fab shop to strengthen it up.
Great video. I'm looking for a swinging rack set up to carry a 400lbs bike on my sprinter van but I have a couple owl boxes mounted and wonder if I have enough room for the bike.
I have read that it's better to attach the tie downs to the triple tree instead of the handlebars to help prevent messing up the fork seals. I guess attaching higher up puts more of a sideways stress on the fork tubes than attaching at the triple tree. YMMV as always but when I get my carrier that's how I intend to tie down.
You’re gonna blow your fork seals if you keep cranking the front down. There is a item you can buy that fits between the triple and the fender. It limits the fork travel during transport

Do it! You won't regret it. We've been able to access so many more places because we have the TW200 with us. And it's just plain fun to ride when we find random forest roads and OHV trails.
Thanks for watching and sharing an alternative! I tried looking at their website and it's pretty difficult to navigate. The one that I found showed a bike strapped down. It also says out of stock due to COVID. I like the idea of no straps but I wouldn't be able to trust it personally. I'll definitely continue to support MotoTote as it has always treated us well.
I have the Add A Bike and I use it for my WR250F and I had my KLX650 on it and it is 100% safe I've had it for years now. I don't know what is up with there site I only know the rack is light and it is safer then a tie down. @@DrifterJourney
Nice rack and something I would consider if I can sort out a proper hitch for the extended body ProMaster. The hitch you used won't work on my van. My attempts to date to carry my TW200 are less than adequate (hitch is bending).
Thanks for watching! I never thought about a hitch with the extended body. Hopefully you can find one that can handle it. Make sure to use our link (in video description) if you buy a Mototote to get yourself a discount.
Good review, could tell me what the height from the bottom of the 2" receiver tube up to the top edge of the rack -total profile. Trying to calculate if I can open the rear doors while rack is installed without a bike on.... Thank You
Hi and thank you for watching. We don't have the rack with us currently and won't have it again for a couple of months. Make sure to use our link and discount code if you end up buying one.
Thanks for watching! The original RakAttach that we have is no longer produced. Here is the current link I'm finding. 275lbs is correct and is all ours was rated for also. 1up-usa.com/product/rakattach-2-0
Although it's not shown in the video, you do swing out the RakAttach w/ the TW on it, right? I think the RA load capacity is 275lbs and the TW is about 280lbs, so swing away?
Technically with the bike and the MotoTote, we are over the capacity of the RakAttach (we've read differing specs at 250 and 300 lbs max). We do swing out the RakAttach with the TW200 on it, but try to support as much weight as possible while swinging open so as not to put too much stress on it. We've heard rumors that RakAttach has a custom "heavy duty" version that they'll make you if you call it in... we've never looked into it though.
@@DrifterJourney Thank you! I just saw your other video, where it's swung out. I understand the 'technical' capacity, and like you, I have a TW and wouldn't keep it mounted and swung out for any length of time off the back of my Taco. I didn't know about the heavy duty version, so I'll check on that! Great channel and response!
Greg, what hitch do you have on your Promaster? I have a PM 1500 HR also and would like to use a hitch hauler as well. I'd like to haul a Suzuki VStrom 650 that weighs about 435 but am willing to get a lighter bike like a TW200 or XT250 or similar if the VStrom is too heavy. Have you had any issues using yours? How many miles have you towed your TW200 on the hitch hauler? Does it bounce/flex much when you hit dips, bumps, etc?
We have the Curt Class 3 hitch #13207. We feel that the hitch is more than adequate for the motorcycle. The Mototote rack we have (Max plus) is rated for 600 pounds. Without the swing arm, which is a separate product that we bought from RakAttach; 250 lb weight limit) it's very solid and the only rocking is the bike itself. However, with the swing arm, there is more bouncing when we go over bumps and dips. But we haven't lost the bike yet and we've driven many thousands of miles with it, including up to Alaska and back.
Would you mind answering this question for me? Do you swing it out with the TW still on it? I also have a TW and I have a truck camper and of course the door to the camper is in the rear. I would love to be able to take my TW with me when we go camping. I really don’t want to have to take the motorcycle off each time I need to get into the camper.
Thanks for watching! The short answer is yes. It's not technically rated for the TW weight so I would lift by the front wheel as I swing it out. It was never an issue for us but this is definitely not a recommendation from me. I thought about propping a board under it when open but never bothered.
@@DrifterJourney thanks, and I understand. When you’re dealing with products like these, you have to make decisions on an individual basis and take responsibility when you were doing that. Thanks for the info and I really like the motorcycle rack also.
Great review; it added Mototote to my research list, and I ended up getting this same rack to haul my brand new TW200. Question: The loading ramp can rattle in its stowed location. Have you noticed this? If so, have you done anything to better secure it? I'm considering a few short bungee straps, but they all too often escape to live with their wild brethren on the shoulders of the highways. :-)
Awesome Karl! I hope you were able to get a discount with our code. As for the loading rack.......I only hear it when the windows are down and we're "off" road. I have not found a need to strap it down any more than the pin it comes with.
@@DrifterJourney I ended up purchasing through another route that gave me a steep credit card discount. Good to know about the ramp. I may still strap it down some way during travel to keep paint wear to a minimum. I don't anticipate winter use, but may have reason for an escape to warmer climates and I am deep in the salt belt.
will this work on the Promaster without the rakattach swing arm since the hitch is flush to the bumper? I plan on buying the same setup as you but the rakattach moto version has been on back order for over a year.
Yes, we had the mototote rack for a few months before adding the RakAttach and it works just fine. The motote has several holes where you can set how deep it goes into the hitch depending on how wide your handlebars are on your motorcycle. The only issue without the RakAttach is that we couldn't open the back doors all the way because some parts of the motote rack interfere at the bottom of the door. But otherwise it works great without the RakAttach.
Does the cargo carrier you have on the back have the capacity to carry two helmets if you want to secure them in it? Also do you feel that the 200 has enough power for you and a passenger?
Hi Gary. Thank you for the comment. The NRS cargo bin on the back of the bike can only fit one helmet. We ride the 200 with both of us and it works most of the time. It's great for getting around town and up forest roads. It's not really quick by any means so highway speeds aren't realistic. Sometimes it's a dog on the hills too but it hasn't really kept us back from too much.
I'm not sure if they ship to France. We've seen the swing rated for 250 and 300 lbs. The bike we have is definitely at the limit and we haven't had any problems. With that said, always check with the manufacturer and make sure you feel comfortable with it since it could be bad if it broke off.
It's holding up great! We've been impressed that it's handled the beating of full time travel, especially in Alaska. The RakAttach is doing fine also - no signs of stress, just a bit squeaky when we swing the arm out from all the dust
Hey man, I know people have asked about heavier bikes and that is all within the rated capacities, but I am curious to how you feel the handling would be if your bike weighed in around 400lbs instead? Assuming the rakattach could handle it, and you were able to slightly modify the setup, do you think that sort of weight would be too detrimental to the handling of the van/stress on the structure of the van?
All specs aside with the rack and swing out.......I would guess that it could handle it based off a towing capacity of 5,000. Double check but I think tongue weight is 10% of towing capacity normally so 500 lbs would be what they are basing it off. As for traction, we do notice that we lose a little with the bike on back (I guess it could be lifting the front up a little? ) but it hasn't been a problem for our use. Hope that helps. Obviously we're not professionals and this is just our opinion. Be sure to do any research needed for safety.

It doesn't come with the locking hitch pin, we already had it from carrying a bicycle rack on a previous vehicle. Here's one that's pretty much the same as ours: amzn.to/3N53OyA
Your setup has got me considering bringing a small motorcycle. Can the rakattack fold away from the van while loaded with your motorcycle, or do you have to unload it every time you access the rear doors?
It can open with the bike on it. It's not technically rated to that weight so I lift a little when opening and closing to take the weight off the hinge. I just heard that they make a 375lb version but it costs $600.
Thanks for watching. The Mototote carriers that we have used are rated for up to 600 lbs. The swing out product is rated for much less. It looks like your model is less than 500lbs so the Mototote should be able to handle it based off their rating. Make sure to use our link in the description to get a discount if you end up buying one.

You're welcome! There was one weird fitment issue that we easily remedied in the video. Not all vans will have the grounding location that we cut off in the video but it's worth mentioning in case you buy one.
It hasn't been an issue for us yet! We occasionally drag it though. ruclips.net/video/zI9ZNqCmV90/видео.html Check the video out starting at 1 minute 40 and you'll see how it does. We scraped a bit coming back down the hill.
I have a 1500, 136WB pro master van, and a 435lb KLR 650. At some point I’d like to ditch the trailer and do a hitch rack. Sounds like this rack could work?
The Mototote definitely should work (double check tire size specs but the TW makes it fine so you should be good). Make sure to use our link for a discount if you get one and let us know if you have any other questions.
The Mototote would work but does the RakAttach? And then after the RakAttach, the Mototote, and the Bike, does the Promaster tongue weight allow for all that? I'm trying to figure out the same setup w/ a Sprinter 2500 and a KTM 790 ADV
The MotoTote MTX Sport Carrier that we have is rated for up to 600 pounds. 190kg is about 420 pounds, so the MTX Sport rack should hold it without an issue as long as you don't add the RakAttach swing arm that we have. The swing arm is really the weak point in the system. The MotoTote rack is super solid!
Thanks for watching! We bought the strongest hitch we could find which is rated to 750lb tongue weight if memory serves me right. I didn't check anything beyond that due to our load weighing in at less than 400 overall based on my estimates. We always recommend checking with the manufacturer for any safety and installation recommendations.

This was my question too. New van and I need a hitch for the moto tote that will work. Also my bike (Honda Rebel 500) is around 400lb so I’m not sure the RakAttach will work but would love one if they make that weight. A moto carrier does scare me and I debate carrying it inside. I just pray it I get one I can do all this myself.
@@katekaos I ended up getting a smaller bike, cb500x to a crf 250L, what was easier to load in and out of the van. Then installed a bed lift system to make it possible to load the bike and then put the bed down to a reasonable sleeping height. My van is on if not over the weight limit so glad not to put another ~150kg so far bacj away from the rear axle if I put the bike on a rack.
@@jonnyflanders1229 not sure I want to downgrade the cc’s and got a good deal on this bike a few months ago. I’d love to take it around with me but debating it now. Probably depends on how big your motorcycle is, but we would have room for one. You'd have to figure out a way to make it stand up and strap it down. And then you'd have to take it off first everytime you want to use the moto
I’m interested in doing the same up with the Rak Attach swing arm and a versa haul motorcycle carrier. I also have a Yamaha tw200. The wet weight of the bike is about 270lbs and the motorcycle carrier is 89lbs. What’s the rating of this rak attach swing arm? Thanks
We've read 250 and 300 pounds, so we're technically overweight either way between the rack and the bike. It's held up over the last three years, but be sure to do your own research and decide what you're comfortable with
Yes, it goes into a standard 2" hitch receiver so as long as you have a hitch mounted to the front of your vehicle that can hold the weight, it shouldn't be an issue.
Yes, we can swing the rakattach out with the bike on it. We are careful to support the weight of the bike so as not to put too much strain on the hinge. Once it's swung out, we let go and it drops a little, but holds the weight.
I spent a week trying to find a setup like this. This popped up in my feed. I live in my ram promaster and want to get a dirt bike for some adventures! The rack attach is something I didn’t know 1 up made. So thank you soo much!
Hi Fiona. Thanks for watching! I don't think it would be an issue. It gets harder if you're on a weird angle that makes the ramp steeper. We have a specific order we do it all in now. Once you figure out what works for you, it should get easier. Make sure to use our link and discount code if you snag one to get yourself a deal.
What can you share of your swinging hitchgate? I ask because I've found the model your using and apparently most of these have a limit of about 200-250lbs and your Yamaha BW-200 is heavier than that; wet. I'd like to use a swinging hitchgate like what you have, but thus far I've not been able to find anything that can support my CRF450L @ about 350lbs.
Our swing out carrier is the Rak Attach. We have seen it rated to 250 and 300 in the past but that is hard info to find. Our bike is 280 wet so we're right about max weight. I've heard of people taking them to a welder and having them altered to make it stronger. We haven't found the need yet but will do it if we find someone that can point to is a good welder they had done it for them. Hope that helps.
I have the exact same swing out arm. Rating is 270lbs. max. from the receiver. That means bike+bike carrier shouldn't exceed 270. This guy is 280 wet+66lb. Mototote. I have a 40lb. carrier and a 200lb motorbike . I had to add a j bolt at the hinge point up to the frame of my truck to eliminate the seesaw effect.
Thanks for watching! I have not found one that supports more weight (unfortunately). I know the stated limits and definitely know it's pushing it but my guess is that the rating is in its weakest position (open) and that it handles more than they say. I always tell folks to do their own research before trying products. With that said, we personally have not had any issues with the setup after several years of all types of roads and many miles driven.

@@dunno1128 aha! that's rad! well hopefully you find the mototote as helpful as we do, it's an awesome rack! happy trails friend!
Cheers!
Most helpful video on the bike carriers I’ve found yet! Thank you!!
Thank you for watching, so glad it's helpful for you as you shop!
Sick set-up. I wish that "Rak Attach" held more weight, so you could go with a ~ 400lb bike. But I see why you went with the lighter TW200
Thanks for the very complete and knowledgeable review!
Thank you! We love our MotoTote and tell everyone about it. Ours takes a beating on some nasty roads and is holding up quite well.
Great video. I'm looking for a swinging rack set up to carry a 400lbs bike on my sprinter van but I have a couple owl boxes mounted and wonder if I have enough room for the bike.
Thanks for watching. That sounds like it could get interesting.
Makes sense. We would need much shorter tie down straps! Thanks for the tip!
You’re gonna blow your fork seals if you keep cranking the front down. There is a item you can buy that fits between the triple and the fender. It limits the fork travel during transport
Thanks for watching! This is a common comment that we get on this video. Thanks for the tip!

Add A Bike is the best you don't need to tie it down and you can lock the bike on it without chains or cables..

@@DrifterJourney Thanks!
Of course, thanks for watching and have fun out there!
Happy to help! We love the rack and have been impressed with its performance. It's definitely taken a beating on the back of the van!
Salt and chipped paint don't mix! Glad you got a deal too.
will this work on the Promaster without the rakattach swing arm since the hitch is flush to the bumper? I plan on buying the same setup as you but the rakattach moto version has been on back order for over a year.
Yes, we had the mototote rack for a few months before adding the RakAttach and it works just fine. The motote has several holes where you can set how deep it goes into the hitch depending on how wide your handlebars are on your motorcycle. The only issue without the RakAttach is that we couldn't open the back doors all the way because some parts of the motote rack interfere at the bottom of the door. But otherwise it works great without the RakAttach.
Just order a mototote :) very nice discount
Continue !!! Best
Merci Jules! Bonne journee!
I don't see a link... would love to order this for my 4Runner and "87 TW !!!!

good system! and it is possible to rotate with the motorcycle on it??
We have a separate unit called the rakattach swing arm. Made by 1Up.
@@DrifterJourney thank you, can they send to France?
but the arm rotates with the motorcycle on it?
I'm not sure if they ship to France. We've seen the swing rated for 250 and 300 lbs. The bike we have is definitely at the limit and we haven't had any problems. With that said, always check with the manufacturer and make sure you feel comfortable with it since it could be bad if it broke off.

How is this set up holding up? Is the rack attach holding the load? Any signs of stress?

@@DrifterJourney Where can I find the 375lb version?
@@jdhesschannel it sounds like they no longer produce that version.
Would a KTM 790S Adventure be too heavy for the rack ?
Thanks for watching. The Mototote carriers that we have used are rated for up to 600 lbs. The swing out product is rated for much less.

@@Renroute of course! We've been happy with it so far!
Hey does this have good security too ?
We have a locking hitch pin to secure the rack to the hitch and put a disc brake lock on the moto. Is that what you're asking?
What's the weight limit of the RakAttach?
I was told 300 lbs. but cannot locate that information on their website anymore.
Could I attach this to the front of a vehicle?
Yes, it goes into a standard 2" hitch receiver so as long as you have a hitch mounted to the front of your vehicle that can hold the weight, it shouldn't be an issue.
Can you swing open the rakattach with the bike loaded?
Yes, we can swing the rakattach out with the bike on it. We are careful to support the weight of the bike so as not to put too much strain on the hinge. Once it's swung out, we let go and it drops a little, but holds the weight.
I spent a week trying to find a setup like this. This popped up in my feed. I live in my ram promaster and want to get a dirt bike for some adventures! The rack attach is something I didn’t know 1 up made. So thank you soo much!
Would it be too much for a female to pit the motorbike on a carrier?
Slicker than snot.
Ha! It's pretty nifty!
Is there a swing arm that supports more than 275lbs. Be careful with your set up your bike alone weighs 278 lbs. Not including the bike hitch.
