Camper Van Life with a MOTORCYCLE 🏍 RV Living with a HONDA GROM 🚌

- In today's full time RV living, van life travel vlog, we discuss camper van life with a motorcycle and how I'm going to do RV Living with a Honda Grom. Ok, so I bought a motorcycle! Specifically a 2020 Honda Grom.
In this camper van life vid, I discuss why I added a motorcycle to my RV life, why I bought the specific Honda Grom motorcycle I bought, and finally how the heck I am going to carry this Honda Grom on the back of my Winnebago Travato camper van.
When I decided a motorcycle might be an option, I wanted to find a street legal motorcycle that was light enough to carry on a camper van motorcycle hitch carrier. My Winnebago Travato camper van can only hold 350 pounds on the hitch. I wanted to be way below that weight motorcycle and motorcycle hitch carrier combined! The Honda Grom fit that bill and is a great addition to my tiny house on wheels.
Tell me your thoughts on the motorcycle I got and how I am carrying it.

My name is Kevin, in early 2019 I quit my job to travel full time. I started out traveling from country to country, staying in each 30 days at a time. Then Covid hit! So I bought a Winnebago Travato and set out to experience van life and full time RV living. I really enjoy sharing my vanlife / RV living experiences. I discuss my best RV tips, free camping and boondocking in a campervan, the vanlife movement, thousand trails camping, cheap RV living, and living in a van and full time RV living. I also travel with a 2020 Honda Grom! Thanks coming along on this travel adventure!

Well thought out setup. Now, the thing is to keep this thing from getting stolen. My Strong advice is to get at least two of those concealable GPS trackers and hide them somewhere not easily discovered. Peace of mind!!
Good idea. Will do.
I'd also suggest a disc lock, a cover that does not have a motorcycle brand name on it, and a cable and padlock for the cover. The cover is for when the van is parked, not for travel.
That Motorcycle is perfect for what you need Kevin. Not a bad price for new. Congrats have fun. Hello from Highland Park Illinois 😊
Hello there!
I've been hauling motorcycles & scooters on racks similar to yours for years. I've always cranked the engine and let the engine move the bike onto rack. First you should build a stop for the front wheel. I wouldn't put the straps on the handle grips especially not on the throttle. You should have a strong front wheel check. Have two straps, one on each side of the front forks, each extending approximate 45 toward the front pulling the front wheel securely into the front wheel chock. Then a strap on each side of the rear frame, in the vicinity of the rear shocks. Again the rear straps pulling at an approximate 45 toward the rear of the ramp. Two pulling forward and two toward the rear. Ratchet them down enough to at least partially compress the shocks. Also secure each wheel to the ramp. It's a good idea the first few times you load to have a spotter. Just to watch and help only if things go wrong. Have fun
Thanks for the advice...definitely appreciate it.
This is exactly what I'm going to do when I get my van. The grom is perfect for this. Good job man!
yeah...Im really love it so far...it's a fun little bike.
Great video showing people the options they have to get around and stay mobile. Have fun exploring!
Thanks Cheri!
Really like your innovative moves tying down your bike, especially the mtn climbing hooks, great bike choice! More more!
Thanks Sharyl! :) I stole that idea from someone else...but I cant remember who, to give them credit! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hey Kevin!!!! Great Job! It makes perfect sense to get a bike like that. You are taking all the precautions to secure it and our not tided down to your rig. Thanks for inviting us in and I trust your choices. Thanks for always being transparent. God speed my friend.
Thanks, Selisa! Really appreciate that.
That was a very clever way to take some of the weight off the carrier. Good thinking. Thx for sharing
Thanks Gretchen.

Thanks, Hassan, really appreciate you watching.
Great review on the bike. I agree about mobility in a van. funny watching you get the bike on the rack. A lot of work getting it all secured.
Yeah...Im excited about it! Thanks Dee!
super cool solution!
Thanks brother! I'll be in Florida soon!
Watching from Tulsa Oklahoma. Enjoy the channel.
Appreciate that, Rob.
Awesome bike and excellent mounting ideas. Even looks good on the back. I think it was a great idea to increase your mobility. Thumbs 👍🏻up buddy! 😀😀
Thanks! 👍 Im really enjoying it so far.
Hey Kevin I love your motorcycle have fun and stay safe out there
I love it too!
Dude sick setup! Just started following you! Love what you’re doing! Keep killing it!
Thanks man. Just checked out your channel....Serbia! Im jealous!
You have found the perfect solution for exploring and errands when you don't want to break camp! You look cool in your helmet too (from last video. I am a consistent follower!)
Awww thank you so much, Kimberly.
Hi Kevin, awesome addition to your setup!!!! Be safe, buddy 😀
Thanks, will do!
I think you were wondering what a e-bike weighs, my Bulls Mountain E-Bike with 27.5 inch tires weighs about 46 pounds, it has a carbon fiber frame. You have to pedal to engage motor and on flats it gets 20 mph and downhill 30 mph. Cost the same as your grome motorcycle.
Fun times ahead
I know..right! Im excited!
Nice bike still enjoying your videos from Creal Springs Illinois
Thanks for stopping by again, Stephen.
Good choice in bike model, size, and rack. Happy rides ahead!
Im excited! Thanks for watching and commenting, Ramona.
From St. Louis here.. great idea. And welcome home
Hey! My home town...from South St. Louis originally! Thanks for watching and commenting, Keith.
I love the bike van camper Kevin!
Thanks! Im digging it as well.
Very nice setup sir!! Love the bike. Watching from Houston Texas area.
Thanks 👍 Im really digging it so far.
Congratulations on the new motorcycle 🏍 enjoy it my friend ☺️ Ray
Thanks 👍 Enjoying it so far. Thanks for watching and commenting, Ray.
Love the setup. Looks like so much fun! I'm still in TX for now...
It is! Thanks for watching and commenting, MG! :)
Watching from Ohio! We love watching your videos. Stay safe!
Thanks so much, Leona.
Might be a good idea to have a piece welded onto the rack as a stop so that the bike stops where you want it to. Love your choice! Seems perfect for the purpose!
Great idea!
Definitely need a stop on the hitch for you not to roll the bike off the other side. Also seems like your Van was tilted in the wrong direction. Wouldn’t you want the side you’re pushing the bike up to being on the lower side?
Watching from STL. Hey neighbor! Love the bike and great carry rack
Hi! Im in the area now! ha!
Totally think you should have gotten the motorcycle! Very neat setup. Thanks for sharing.
I think so too! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Right on! Looked into one of these for my rig but I've got a sportster and that's about twice the weight of the grom so I had to end up buying a trailer. Safe travels!
understand for sure....
Cool bike. I really thought the bike was gone go off on the other end. Lol good catch. 😆😆😆😆😆
You and me both!
god bless and thank you for your pointers.
Same to you!
👍Nice bike. Good set up. I won’t repeat what everyone else has already said. Please be careful.🙏 Wishing you the best & safe travels. 🤗💞🤗 Love hearing my favorite outro song.😁😍
Thanks, will do, LA! :)
Aloha Kevin, very good purchase
Aloha Josephine! Mahalo for watching!
Kevin, the motor bike is definitely a great add on. Having the mountain bike was okay but having the motor bike gives you so much more flexibility and mobility. Thanks for explaining why you choose the Honda. Can really tell you’re going to have even greater fun.
Loving it so far for sure! Thanks for watching and commenting, Bruce.
Cool little motorcycle!
Thanks...love it so far.
Hi reading this from Singapore. Van life is new to me. I am curious and interested. Have been following since your first post. Thank you for sharing. All the best.
Oh wow...thank you so much for following so long. I LOVE Singapore. I was just there last year. I love the food! I need to get back there! :)
Nice to meet you in Forest City! Unfortunately, we are still here! 🥵
Safe travels and if you are ever in western NY give us a shout!
Happy trails!!! Stay safe!!!
Thank you! Will do! So nice to meet you guys as well. Sorry, you're still stuck there :(
Watching from Madison Wisconsin. Great option to get around once you get to your spot. I know you will have lots of fun! Keep mobile.
Definitely!! Thanks for watching and commenting, Rick.
Hi Kevin! I think you are going to really enjoy the bike. It will definitely take you more places once you're parked. I really like what you did to take some weight off the hitch. Very smart! Stay safe and watch out for crazy drivers, especially on your bike.
Will do! Im really enjoying it so far. Thanks for watching and commenting, Lisa.
Kevin thats a great way go solve our problem of mobility without uding the Travato! 👍🏿👌
Im loving it so far Doug! Hope your travels are going well and hopefully out paths cross at some point!
Love the fact you added stability straps to the motorcycle carrier! Excellent idea for those hitch carriers, but most folks don't bother with them. Thank you for including a link to them - I'll add that to my setup.
The Grom is a wonderful little bike. If you ever get tired of the hard seat, switch to a Honda Monkey 125 instead. They share the same pedigree, but the Monkey has a wider seat.
I'm about to embark on my own van adventure and will be towing a Versysx300. It's under 400lbs, but still a beast to load. Might switch to a smaller motorcycle like a TW200 or Kymco Spade 150. The Versys will run interstate speeds all day long, and travel forest and fire roads with little problem, which is why I bought it. But the center of gravity and seat height is pretty high compared to the other bikes. At only 5'4", I can appreciate smaller and easier to load LOL.
Good luck on your trip. Hope you have a blast on the Grom!
Yeah, I saw one of the new Monkeys. I really like them. Good luck on your adventure as well!
Hi Kevin, I’ve been thinking about something for my van also. As our time moves on our feet don’t move as far and as well so it’s always good to have another mode of transportation. Really a great looking bike and I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun with it. Stay safe Dusty Roads & Me 🚐💨
Thanks guys!
134 MPG!!! Love that. And you almost lost it loading it lol.
Haha...I did! Thanks for watching and commenting!
The bike is a perfect solution to mobility once camped, and will surely be most enjoyable in FL when the rest of us are freezing in the midwest. Enjoy! Watching from Northern Ohio. Wishing you safe travels.
Thanks my friend! Im enjoying it so far. Can't wait to get to sunny Florida! :)
Amazing !! You got the GROM. My buddy was trying to convince me get one for my LTV !!
Im digging it so far! It's tiny though! I look like a bear on a tricycle! But I dont care! Ha!
@@30AndAWakeUp Glad you are enjoying it. I am only 5'8 and it would be perfect for what I need. GROM ON !
Motorcycle great idea. Hi from Gastonia NC!

It worked!
Congrats! 🤗 Sweet!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi I am from Long Beach California USA . Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching, Stacy.
You are very welcome thank you
Great bike!
Thanks Donna!
Nice man. Im a weekend warrior and carry a motorcycle in my Hiace with me since it doesnt have a hitch. It certainly does take up a lot of space. A good 1/3 of my van at least. Im currently working on a bed design to work around it.
That would be cool. I'd love to have my bike inside the van when traveling.
I had guessed that you were gonna get an ebike but I'm ears you always add great aspects to things great content the bike is a great addition I'm from Bronx NY
Im really loving it! Oh and I miss NYC! :(
@@30AndAWakeUp the atmosphere is the same out there quiet due to 19 so don't think you missing out on any group settings
@@dondattaford5593 youre probably right
This is amazing! 🏍
Thanks Adda! :)
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting, Jacob.
Hi there nice purchase congratulations!! You should have a lot of fun don't forget to show a video of yourself cooking a meal before you go riding 😁😁
haha...that's coming!
Ingenious set up Kevin! I remember Nomdic Fanatic had issues with his brakes burning out repeatedly when he had his bike on the back, but I think your rig is more substantial. Love the bike, looks like tons of fun! Hope I can take you on some twisties some day!
I'd love that! :)
Hey Kevin, Just a bit of advice on strapping from the front forks down instead of the handle bars. It's more stable and it takes the stress off the handle bars especially when bouncing down the road and less likely to ever strip if you ever over torque them down when tightening them. I did that when I first started riding years ago. Look in to getting a good locking/security system too. Another mistake I made when I got my motorcycle stolen, it only takes a good thief a minute to snatch one up. Stay safe, ride safe!
appreciate the tip...i'll try that....for sure. Yeah..I need some kind of anti-theft stuff.
@@30AndAWakeUp Kevin, definitely strap on the frame and the forks...not handle bars. Get a heavy duty cable lock to lock the bike to your bike carrier, This bike is so light, it'll be nothing for a thief to lift it off of there. Make sure the cable goes through the back wheel, around swing arm/frame then through your mount. Also get yourself a brake lock. It goes on the front brake disc and disables the bike from moving.
Hola Kevin ! Congratulations. Beautiful bike. Now you are more independent ! Best. 👍
Thanks for watching and commenting.
great idea!!
Glad you think so! Thanks for watching and commenting, Thomas.
Really like the bike! Especially the gas mileage. Good job keeping it secure to the hitch.
Thanks! 👍Im really liking it so far.
Nice! Hi from Fair Oaks, CA
Thanks Kae!
