Its literally been corrupt since its inception. What do you expect from a prize who literally made his living off selling dynamite and profiting of war wherever he could.
Kitten Hermit That’s literally saying that for example Haber and Bosch were criminals because they invented an easier way to produce ammonia. The Haber-Bosch method made it easier to produce fertilizers, which helped millions of people to SURVIVE. Although the production of explosives was also made easier, it wasn’t the inventors’ goal to use their method for war purposes.
@@tenacious_takakumi2680 And you have just stated exactly why its nothing like Haber and Boschs case because Nobels intention was very much to sell Dynamite as a Weapon of war and did so the moment he was able to and continued to do so until his death. In his case the use and sale of Dynamite as a tool was always secondary because, especially given the time period, it wasnt nearly as profitable. So to claim Nobels intention wasn't for use his invention to be used as a weapon of war is quite frankly ridiculous and uniformed.
Thank you for this. I already watched this before but I wanted to came back because I'm so happy that I watched this. "All information about nominations remain secret for 50 years." Well, unless the nominators decide to speak about it, which seems to be the trend now. For instance, we know who nominated Maria Ressa, who won half of this year's prize: Jonas Gahr Store, leader of the Norwegian Labour Party and incoming prime minister.
Incredibly proud of Maria Ressa for being the first Filipino to be given this prestigious recognition. Many supporters of the administration are flocking to this video to have some semblance of relevancy. Pity that fellow Filipinos still have this crab mentality.
She’s American and Filipinos are not proud of her it’s quite the opposite. She’s a convicted criminal who has lots of connection with people in high places. She’s well funded most definitely
I think the peace thing is because when his brother died, the media thought it was Nobel himself, and wrote how horrible he was for making dynamites. This actually did happen and Nobel probably made the whole Nobel prize to redeem himself to the world.
TED-Ed, Gandhi, while nominated, never actually won the Nobel Peace Prize, as displayed in the graphic. Here are the Indian Citizens that actually won the peace prize - R. Pachauri and K. Satyarthi. There have been non-citizen laurates like Mother Theresa of Calcutta whose work in India led to her reception of the award.
In the Philippines, instead of celebrating Maria Ressa as a Nobel Peace Prize winner, the government is trying to dismiss her accomplishments and role by saying there is "freedom of press" in the country.
All these years of waiting to know that something important happens on my bday, I did NOT expect THIS, so the Nobel prize lauriete is announced on my birthday, o h my god, December 10th rocks
I think the word Peace is intentionally placed into the prize's name for irony. There are just many some cases that the awarding of peace prize does not make sense.. Say, Obama. IIRC, the prize was awarded for his concept of a nuclear free world and improving foreign relationship. But the concept is just a concept... it is nearly the same as a dream except you might know how to make the concept happens. Yet he is awarded for something he haven't done but only had thought of. This is the part that made me begin to disbelieve in peace prize.
The image at the beginning of the video (0:22) where Mahatma Gandhi is shown over India is incorrect. The Nobel committee never bestowed Nobel Peace Prize on Mahatma Gandhi. Because Mr. Worm-Muller a member of the committee described him as "He is a freedom fighter and a dictator, an idealist and a nationalist." I have never seen such a contradiction in a single sentence. Probably he should have taken some literature lessons from the some of the people he handed out the price to. I some times feel this price is just for gratification of some people .
@@safaarif878 During her tenure as Prime Minister, there was a humanitarian crisis in Myanmar. Rohingya Muslims were beaten and forced to move out of the country. Many of them fled to Bangladesh, etc. Also recently the country has come under military rule and the general population is suffering. I don't know how much of a role Aung San Suu Kyi has played in all this though. People who don't like her are blaming her for many of the things that happened in Myanmar in the past decade. On the other hand, her supporters are saying that she never intended to do these bad things and is being forced by the military junta. Either way the original comment was made 3 years ago when everyone was blaming her, and recently she has been put in jail herself by the military. A military leader has taken over as interim prime minister. Many people are protesting in Myanmar and the government is trying to suppress the protests. There is a general feeling of anger to the government I presume. I can't be completely sure, as I'm an outsider (I'm from India) but this is what I remember from all the news reports and UN meetings that took place over it.
@@adarshmohapatra5058 you would also have to include that the same military leader who is on the throne is the head of the military and he is the one who ordered the genocide of the Rohingyas. The military always had power over the parliament and I am not defending her just because but u need to take into account that the military is extremely brutal and stage coups just like that. If she were to go against them like holding them accountable for their war crime a coup would have come much sooner. Instead of blaming a witness, why don't we start holding the real murderer for his crimes? ever since the coup in Feb 940 people is killed by armed forces, 52 are children, most are teenagers. thousands are displaced from their villages because of attacks like bombs, shootings, and arson from the military. Covid cases and deaths are skyrocketing because oxygen is being withheld and used for the profit of the military. There is barely any regulation posed by the military to stop with the cases, there are no vaccinations, PPEs are not given to hospitals and the front line workers unless it is a military hospital. Corpse are queueing up in lines to get cremated, I have lost count of the number of covid deaths. The media really love to portray women in power in a heinous light for crimes that are committed by insecure men.

This is literally well explained, stacked with Infos and literally worth watching
Also good to note, the medal for the other prizes is a different design.
This event is corrupt now
When you say corrupt do you mean when Obama won the Nobel price?
How so? What makes it corrupt?
Just a few minutes ago my teacher is asking why the people are happy when Nobel died and I said that he invwnted the dynamite which lead to WW1 and etc. I'm so proud because I was the only one who knew that on our class. You may not able to read this but thank you!
You guys deserve more views
Love how Teddy won one. Speak softly and carry a big stick, you will go far.
In my opinion, the Philippines is now doubting this award that was given to Maria Ressa.
Cry all you want, the Palace has already recognized her award
This is the way life should be. In the service of others!
Nice! I hope they make videos on how the other Nobel prizes work too, especially Economics (it seems the least clear how this one is awarded).
Well for one, it's not *actually* a Nobel prize, it's a prize awarded by the Sveriges Riksbank (Swedish Central Bank), BUT it is referred to as a Nobel Prize by the Nobel Foundation and the laureates are given the prizes along with those in other categories.
it's now on my recommended videos because of ressa
Along with Malala Yousoufzai , Kailash Satyarthi had also won the Nobel Peace Prize , which they forgot to mention
When I was a teenager, my family and I went to a book fair in Los Angeles, and I saw Rigoberta Menchu Tum from a distance.
I am a Guatemalan-American.
Maybe I would like to win a Nobel prize, maybe in the peace category or in the literature category.
Can you make a video about Deja Vu.
I've just been in this place before!
I remember them doing a video about Deja Vu already.
Charlie Clumsy can you share the link for me
Đăng Nguyên Nguyễn Sorry, that was only a joke. A deja vu joke.

Serves me right for reading the comments...
"All information about nominations remain secret for 50 years."
Well, unless the nominators decide to speak about it, which seems to be the trend now.
She'snot a filipino ,she's Indonesian
She’s American and Filipinos are not proud of her it’s quite the opposite. She’s a convicted criminal who has lots of connection with people in high places. She’s well funded most definitely
No
Aung san suu a noble prize winner... Yea i get the picture... All that ethnic cleansing in mynamar
sam dell
Well tbh she can’t really do anything abt it
sam dell she was like a killer! Destroyer! And dictator! Nothing peace I can see only destruction
I agree she has been doing nothing about the killings of the Myanmar muslims
Da Wae Does it ? any source say that ?
Dika Ari *wat?*
Let's strive for peace!
I'm really proud when they said they didn't give Nobel Prize to anyone in 1948 to honour ghandhi's death
I think the peace thing is because when his brother died, the media thought it was Nobel himself, and wrote how horrible he was for making dynamites. This actually did happen and Nobel probably made the whole Nobel prize to redeem himself to the world.
and now the value of this award went down.
This video is really important for the school project I am doing on this Peace Prize.Thank you TEDed!
I think they can pave the way so that we can act in peace. This is exactly why novel prize is exist!
How long does it take to make such animations ?
Balang araw, makakakuha rin tayo nito, Junie. Tiwala lang. 🙏
Fun fact: Maria Ressa, the CEO of Rappler is the first Filipino Recipient of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.
Proud Finn here. Yay for Martti Ahtisaari! ❤ he is our former president and an all round awesome man.
In the Philippines, instead of celebrating Maria Ressa as a Nobel Peace Prize winner, the government is trying to dismiss her accomplishments and role by saying there is "freedom of press" in the country.
true. crab mentality is pretty obvious. we're not looking too good on other nations' eyes.
There is really freedom of press in the Philippines
@@simonjames9481 no we don't
This video was made 7 years ago, but it looks perfect omg
All these years of waiting to know that something important happens on my bday, I did NOT expect THIS, so the Nobel prize lauriete is announced on my birthday, o h my god, December 10th rocks
Maria Ressa brought me here
At times I feel like its a lottery. Misses on true winners and dishing out undeserving ones
Well, I always believe there were people who deserved it more than anyone else.

Why the Kailash Satyarthi's is not shown in the list at 00:19 seconds as he also got Nobel Peace Prize with Malala Yousafzai
Maths , philosophy , psychology and many.other important topics also should have nobel
Why can’t it be awarded posthumously? What is the reasoning behind that?
Also, can the prize ever be taken away from a laureate?
I am proud to say that this year, a Filipina won the Nobel Peace Prize
I think the word Peace is intentionally placed into the prize's name for irony. There are just many some cases that the awarding of peace prize does not make sense..
Say, Obama. IIRC, the prize was awarded for his concept of a nuclear free world and improving foreign relationship. But the concept is just a concept... it is nearly the same as a dream except you might know how to make the concept happens. Yet he is awarded for something he haven't done but only had thought of.
This is the part that made me begin to disbelieve in peace prize.
The TT part in Martti Ahtisaari is a long T. Iy is pronounced longer than the normal English T. Same with the AA.
I know someone who won one of the other prizes. It's cool that there is ONE prize that is the highest in the whole world.
Finland (nearly) mentioned. 😅Thanks TedEd for all the great learning videos. 😊
:)
thank you for explaining :)
Finally something the human kind can actually be proud of
Wonderful name
It is an inspiring video for all ages.
I some times feel this price is just for gratification of some people .
best channel ever
Can you please make a video about the Ramon Magsaysay Award? Which is the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
Fun fact: Many Filipinos are still pissed when Maria Ressa won the Nobel prize for peace.
thanks to Loida Nicolas Lewis influence on high places
I'm still trying to make sense why she won 😂
@@phillip6215 You just need common sense and a bit of research dear. LOL
@@librarosas1105 i think it's actually you who needs it 🤭
Yet the malacanyang palace congratulated her. Keep up trolls.
Aung San Suu Kyi doesn't deserve the price anymore :')
everybody is saying that! What did she do afterwards??? I'm so sorry but I want to know😭
@@safaarif878 During her tenure as Prime Minister, there was a humanitarian crisis in Myanmar.
@@adarshmohapatra5058 THANKYOU SO MUCH for the detail and information!!!
I still believe in the value and the purpose of the Nobel prize. And I still greatly admired some of those who were nominated for this prize.
However it’s worth knowing that this system of nominating people for the Nobel Prize needs to be reform and change. Because I can’t stand how some people were nominated because of politics and for political gain.
wonderful journey of Nobel peace prize. 😊. thank you so much for the wonderful video.
1:58 you show Finland as part of Sweden, as it was back in the day, but when Nobel was around (and some time after that), Finland was part of Russia.
Maria Ressa, the CEO of Rappler from Phil 🇵🇭won the Nobel Peace Prize Award… but not the trust and confidence of the Filipino… Rappler got the highest distrust Rate… and lowest trust rate..
For the people who make this video You deserve a Nobel prize for this! 🏅
Thank you!
