My new art development from the last two years is that I've been learning all about book binding! And wow! What a happy rabbit hole it has been! I started out by taking a few book binding courses at a local arts centre and the way it clicked in my brain, where it was challenging but not frustrating or particularly "hard", made it feel so instantly fun. Now I've been visiting different book binding stores, reading about it, and making my own books! I've found that it has completely changed how I appreciate books. While I used to pick up books in bookshops and think "what a great cover!" I'm now investigating how it was bound, how the book feels, etc.
I've also developed a curiosity and fascination with miniature furniture. I've been hosting a show about the history of interior design and in an attempt to add fun visuals without actually buying new furniture I thought it would be cute to get some miniature furniture. Well, that is a pandora's box that cannot be closed!!! I'm dying to go to Chicago to visit the Thorne rooms as soon as I can :)

Thank you so, so much for this video. I started watching the Art Assignment just when the pandemic started, and since then I’ve been trying to get back to making art myself. I haven’t had the kind of success I was envisioning yet, but I’m still hopeful. Just allowing myself to spend any time at all on my sketchbook, or playing with materials, helped me regain some confidence I had lost in myself, which in turn helped me last year to leave a job that was making me deeply unhappy. I have a great job now, and my husband and I are hoping to move to a small house sometime next year, where we’ve decided I will get my own dedicated space to turn into a mini-studio where I can make as much of a mess as I require without monopolizing the dinner table. Thank you for helping me find the roots of my creativity - your videos were an important part of that journey.

Making collages is one of my favourite ways to express my aesthetic. Ceramics always feels like a great way for me to process emotions, or exorcise trauma. Curating mini tableaux around my home was a great way to deal with lockdowns. But, the greatest art assignment over the past few years was my trip to visit some of the most amazing small galleries, art museums and sculpture gardens in Germany earlier this year. Being locked down for much of 2020 and 2021 made me realise that I needed to actually travel far from my (much loved) antipodean city, and see another, very different part of the world. And to take thousands of photographs of amazing doorways…..

There is so much art here, in Paris, that I get to experience a lot of it. And it does feel great. So does creating my own work (photographs) that I send every month to my subscribers. And every month, forcing myself to look at what I've created helps me see I create stuff I like even when it doesn't feel like I have. And knowing I've brought a little bit of joy into their lives makes mine better.

I started watching your channel at the start of the pandemic, and I bought your book. It gave me so much to do at a time when I couldn't leave the house for anything but work, and for that, I will always be grateful. I learned so much about art, and I continue to learn more. Thank you. :)

    Hi Sarah!
I'm so excited to see you again! Thank you so much for Art Assignment.
In the last two years, I got the chance to go visit Giverny, and the video about Monet is a huge part of why I went. I'm so, so glad that I did. I just want to say thank you for that, it was truly joyful and magnificent. I got to stand in the garden and draw the bridge in my sketchbook. It was magical; I don't know how to describe it, other than that I was in tears repeatedly from how amazing it was.
Thank you. Thank you. I'm excited to see what else goes up here!

Hi Sarah! It was great to hear about all that you've been up to! This channel has had a great deal of impact in my life and has made me so so curious about art history, appreciation and making art. The simple sentence- YOU ARE AN ARTIST, allowed me to shed the idea that a novice like me couldn't create meaningful art for myself, my friends and family and I've started learning how to draw- baby step by step! I graduated from college during covid and was confused for a bit until i decided to pursue CGI and will be joining a course in feb 2023. I've made a lot of art in the meantime and am doing an internship at our local museum and art gallery as a graphic designer! Thank you so much for your amazing content! I really really love the collages and your sigil and will look forward to seeing all the shorts too!
    Love, kusha

Lovely to see you back and I'm glad you're doing well. In the last two years, I've been through cancer, which obviously sucked but thankfully I'm currently cancer-free. I've also been making a ton of art, the pandemic really encouraged me to get even deeper into my practice and find solace in making. I'm enjoying posting on Instagram and connecting with the creative community there.

Welcome back (here)! So synchronous -- I was just starting a thank you note to you in my head this morning. Because I regularly revisit The Art Assignment videos. For inspiration, courage, questions, perspective... All those good and worthy things. I'm just wrapping up development on an open source app with a strong art bent. So that's been a lot of doing. And The Art Assignment -- and the "You Are An Artist" spirit -- has been a companion and firestarter in that work. So congratulations on all your current explorations, and also -- thank you! (But I'll still get the "real" thank you note out of my head and on to paper sometime soon. ;) )

Since this "pause" I amassed almost 3 yrs. of ideas, project concepts, and preliminary exhibit ideas for execution in the following year. I have also accumulated enough supplies in order to bring each idea to a cogent conclusion. That is what is on my table at the moment.

I did pottery classes in high school and one of my favorite parts was the randomness of glazing and how there was a huge role for happy accidents in pottery.
As far as what I have been up to? I recently upgraded my laptop to one that works with a digital pen so that I can more easily do digital art. This has been a game changer for me as I have small children and the thought of getting out, setting up, and then eventually cleaning up art supplies seems very daunting. I love that I have a whole digital art studio that I can play with and when I need to do something else I just minimize the program or close my computer.
