- The best budget motorcycle Panniers? Check out my install of the Nelson Rigg Hurricane soft luggage. I recently installed the Happy Trail luggage rack to my Royal Enfield Himalayan. I touch on the highlights I felt was important when selecting either soft or hard panniers. I'm pleased with the end result and take you on a quick ride with the Nelson Rigg Huricane bags attached.

I have a couple of the Nelson-Rigg Hurricane series bags, they offer good value for the $.
Nelson-Rigg recently came out with quick release pannier mounting plates. The only downside is they cost more than the Hurricane Saddlebags.

I just picked up the large tote bag I'm going to use across the back seat when I need extra space. That's funny about the quick release being so expensive, I'll take a look at them. Thanks for watching.
Your bike looks nice. I like your Marine sticker, Semper Fi, former 0211 MOS. I agree that the bags are the way to go if you are planning to ride off road, the bags will stand up to drops better than hard boxes will for sure. I had mine up in the Andes mountains of Colombia this weekend trying the bike out on some severe mountain trails. Most of the road was a 45 degree incline with rocks, mud from semi tropical springs and I found the Himmy quite at ease power wise. The weight did make rear tire slippage an issue on the steeper inclines. After climbing about 3500 ft we were arriving at our friend,s mountain finca or farm. I was exhausted and unfortunately it was the last and worst part of the road with softball sized rocks and a sheer mountain drop off on one side of the two rut trail. It was another 45 degree incline, and the the bike went down as the tire bounced off one of the rocks. Unfortunately it spun as it fell and ended up with the tank facing downhill. I have a hard box on the back with Koju engine guards and pannier racks which saved the bike from damage, but I was glad I did not buy hard panniers. I spun the bike on the engine guards and pointed it back up the road and lifted it back up. I have the pannier racks on mostly for the bike's protection and they saved me again. They are pretty scratched up but the bike is unscathed. So I am now looking for soft bags to use for when I am riding on less deadly trails and roads.

I'm hoping these bags work out for me, so far I'm happy with them but haven't cruelty tested yet. Safe travel and enjoy the trip back down the mountain!!
I have the same bags, but I made another frame with two hooks which I bolted to the other frame. I use the two rings at the back of the bag to hang the bags onto the hooks, and some straps to tie them down. The straps take all the weight of the bags. Easy on and off.

The bags look great. I do really like my rackless tusk so far. But in the end I see myself making this type of change.
Next year a friend and myself are trying to schedule the entire Trans America Trail. For that type of trip I need more space like these.

Every ride I do is to prepare for the TAT in some way or another. I'm glad it's on your horizon! I think eventually I will loose the hard case for a soft duffle bag across the back as I venture more off road. Not sure it would last a trip across the country.
Should have tried the Rhinowalk soft side panniers. Simply click onto the frame. Way easier and neater.

Did you have to add any heat shielding or do any modifications due to the location of the exhaust? Can you share a link to the specific ones you got? I'm very interested in these and the ones you mentioned.
I did add an Aluminum self adhesive panel. I ordered from Amazon. Company: Xinpengliu. Product name: Aluminum Backed Aluminized Self Adhesive 12"x24" $14.99 It's worked well so far.

After installing the Shad Terra 37L how r the wind curls when you stand and ride ? Doesnt the bike shake ?
No problems with standing and riding. It does bounce a bit when off-road. If I spent a lot of time off-road I would get a soft bag. The quality of the top box 1yr later is great. Still a great purchase for my Himmy! Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the review. But let’s be honest. They look awful. Like those shopping bags for life you get from our British Supermarkets just hanging there. No thankyou, after you’ve burnt a hole right through the vinyl from your exhaust too.
Think I will go with the Givi Canyon GRT720 on my Himmo!
lol that's funny. I would agree it's not the best look. I'll look into the Givi. The new 450 is on my radar and the exhaust is much further away from where the bags would be. Thanks for commenting.
