Today I'm digging through my mailbag to answer some of the most frequently-asked questions: What kind of budget do i need to live in the Philippines? What if she wants children and I don't? Why don't Filipinos laugh at my jokes?
Hopefully my answers will provide you with a little more insight into life in the Philippines, and let you know what to expect if you ever visit or relocate here!

In Baguio, I needed about $1500 for a 'good' life, living WITH my wife. We ate out most nights, and did many things together. It wasn't a 'simple' life, which we could have done easily with under $1000 a month. We had a very nice condo right in the middle of the city paying 27,500 pesos ($550 a month). We also had top of the line internet, since I worked online and needed the best possible internet.

When my wife (Cebuana) and I were courting we discussed and agreed on God, children, family support (only in dire documented need) and living location. It eliminated many issues and we have been very happily married over 20 years now.
Finding a Filipina who doesn't want children is unlikely on the other hand an older Foreigner may do very well with a single mother as a great wife. I was a single father full custody when I met my wife she raised my son and we had children as well.
We enjoy your honest no BS content here very much Pea!

For you, Pea: You are to be commended for having your finger not only on the pulse of the Philippines, but also on the U.S. EVERYTHING you've referenced is remarkably accurate.
For your viewers: Listen to what this woman is telling you. It will save you grief. It will grease your emerging life here. From the broad topics to the nuances she shares, this information is invaluable.
I watched this video and found myself consistently nodding my head in affirmation with each point she made (previous videos are the same). I've been fortunate with my transition here, and can say from experience that this should be considered a graduate course in Filipino life from a foreigner's perspective.

Very good advice about kids. Men need to realized that most women want kids. Also, if they don't think they want kids now, they can change their mid later. Four years ago I married an amazing Filipina in her 50's (I was in my 60's). Three of her kids were grown and the other was almost grown. My kids were grown. Since we were in the same life stage, that was not an issue. We are very happy together

True about the sarcasm part...when I first met my girl 6 years ago, she was pretty much oblivious to it, and took everything word for word, but over the course of six years she has picked up on using her own sarcasm also. :) Have to disagree on the microwave thing though Pea. Microwaves are great for heating up leftovers also. You can cook a bulk meal and have it for a couple days, or get a Chinese takeout meal heat up the leftovers the next day. Only takes a couple of minutes to reheat a meal, its great for those quick midnight snacks! They suck for cooking things from scratch, but great for a quick reheating. Also great for a quick defrosting of anything that is frozen.

Refrigerators and microwaves go together hand in hand! If you cook with the idea of instant meals of leftovers for a day or 2 you save money and always satisfy hunger in a moment. That's what I do here in Atlantic City, NJ. I am a retired bachelor now and I like to cook but leftovers in the fridge is an alternative to tempting but unhealthy snacks!

The lack of sarcasm with my Filipina is real, I find myself saying something sarcastic, but then back-tracking for 30 mins explaining that what I said didn't actually mean... what I said. Almost impossible to explain lol. Also, your first point on the discussion of children I 100% agree with, we were talking about marriage, children, future goals and plans, living expectations and dreams all within the first couple weeks. Why not huh? Because if you don't follow each others paths then maybe you're not right for each other, so why waste time?

If something happened to my wife, I'd either look for a Filipina, or a Cambodian gal. Probably in their mid-40's. If it were a Filipina, she wouldn't have to worry about me wanting to bring her to the U.S. as I'd live in the 'Pines. She would never have to worry about leaving her family, she would just eat better, with *moderately* better living conditions than she currently would have, and I'd make it clear that her family is always welcome, but not supported past my comfort zone.
I would help, of course, but not to the point of even coming CLOSE to spoiling them. Only to see they never go hungry, or sleep under a leaky roof, take care of any basic dental/medical (NOT for the alcoholics, though).
I've seen their "houses". I can build a primitive, bamboo house, that would be FAR better, than what most poor Pinay currently live in. That's pretty sad. :^(
However, my Filipina would want for nothing dental, or medical.
As I love to cook, she would have access to the same cookware I'd use. Primitive, but efficient.
That's me.... Primitive, but efficient. :^)
No cars unless she currently owned one (not likely).... Motorbikes, public transportation, and walking only.
I would want one who didn't want kids, or already had them. I'm sterile.

Basically i’ve abandoned that idea but i’m perfectly aware that if you have a young wife things aren’t so simple. She would love to have children and, hand on heart, so would I. So yes, we’re going to have kids. Thanks to universe, that when my father died a few years ago, I have had him for many decades ... Means: No, Sir, it is no good idea to become father with 58. The only advantage is, the children get your money very early (if there is any). But if they love you, they will not be happy about money, having lost you.

Kasper, listen to me. 58 is TOO old, ok. I'm 49 and my kid is in middle school and I waited too long. You have NO clue the energy and the worry you go thru as an older parent (and money). Be a man and just be honest with yourself that you are agreeing to having kids as a way of keeping your woman, which is just sad. Plus you are raising the chance that your kid will be autistic (its true), and all the other kids will think you are the grandfather. You will be 72 before any kid is even in high school. Grow up.

I was paying $500 a month for a room in the GRASS RESIDENCES condo in Quezon City.
6 pools, a gym, a basketball court, laundry and access to local grocery.
Because it was in Metro Manila I had stable electricity, stable plumbing and was able to shop at the Trinoma mall for any food items I wanted.
The mall stores have microwavable food. I do however believe it’s healthier to get fresh food and cook it using the electric grill or propane grill.
I preferred white rice and meat or if I had noodles are usually preferred Ramen noodles instead of pancit.
It was actually easy for me to lose weight in the Philippines because every single day I would swim for miles in the pool for exercise.
The Filipino pasta was cheap as well as the rice and the meats but when I wanted to make homestyle pen ala vodka or chopped meat spaghetti it was slightly more pricey.

Good advice and entertaining as always Pea. A very important topic to bring up with honesty, early in a new relationship. Your comment sounds like you are a non believer which is your choice. I'm sure you can find a partner who has a compatible view point.
Then why would you attached yourself to a partner that has a contradictory core belief? If you have no respect for their core belief(hypothetically) then it appears you have contempt for your partner (seamingly).
Why pursue such a partner? Is it to satisfy your ego? A power trip? Are you just out to use a partner? Or are you Chad (which i sincerely apologize for wasting both our time in replying)?
I would suggest if you hold contempt for believers you find a non believer to partner with, you both will be happy. As I would suggest that a believer find one to partner with for the same reason.
BTW no I am not catholic, I do believe but am not formally active beyond thying. So I have no dog in the fight to protect the church, their members are people not angels. Some are moral, most (as all groups are) are amoral and yes a few even immoral.

I have made myself very very clear to the "wife" that I don't want to make kids. For the simple selfish fact that I don't want to to raise a family and kids in my sixties and seventies. She is 34 and already has kids. But she won't go a week without bringing up the topic. For me it is a deal breaker and she knows that. As for the religion, I am an unrepentant agnostic and proud of it but it isn't an issue with her because she has a dim view of the church and religion as a whole. In two years I know her she has never been to church.
I shop mostly at palengke for meat and veges and fresh fruits. If I want an American steak the cheapest is at S&R. That said, if I can eat mostly "local" foods then it is pretty cheap. We eat out two or 3 times a week. My kuya has to have his burger king or mcdonalds fix about once a week. The local eateries are often very cheap. I can but lunch for 4 for about 3 or 4 dollars, lol.
I have been to the electronics and appliance stores at the malls and yes it is less bang for the buck there. Hot water heater (electric) are small and cost a fortune. you can get cheap electonics but you have to buy domestic, Pensonic, Crown Coby, Cherry Mobile etc.
But living with a local and doing the local lifestyle has taught me a lot, My plan is to buy property to eliminate the monthly housing cost and go from there. if all I have is utilities and living expenses I shouldn't have a problem.
I have been in the drinking water filtration and wastewater treatment trade here in the usa for over 30 years but lately have been playing around with solar and wind energy systems. I think my skills could $erve me well in the Philippines in "retirement".

  • @PassportBrosBusinessClass
    @PassportBrosBusinessClass 4 года назад +3

I think one of the reason why foreign men who meet a Filipina and want to marry her don’t want to have children immediately is because of the large distance between their countries and the Difficulty of immigration as well as high cost of travel.
I personally didn’t want my Filipina girlfriend giving birth in the Philippines because I wasn’t 100% certain how difficult it would be to immigrate the child and her to America due to the fact that my president CHUMP right now is a racist and is doing his best to poison immigration policy as well as attack the 14th amendment about birthright citizenship.
If America really and Americans really were free I’d be able to marry anyone anywhere in the world and simply bring them back without being forced to pay a ridiculous amount of money to process them. It costs an American man between $3000 and $10,000 when all the legal fees and situations are settled.
That’s a lot of money for some.
My hope was to be able to immigrate my Filipina girlfriend first and then once she can work and is stable that we could plan a family. The way our immigration works is that you come here on a 90 day visa and we are forced to marry you within 90 days or you are forced to go home. During that time you cannot work and in many cases it can take more than a year for my new wife to get her green card which means that she has a financial burden on me until then. That’s ridiculous.
If she were to get pregnant and deliver in the Philippines and I am not living there I would have to wait a very long time to be able to bring her here. In the meantime should be forced to deal with the baby on her own or with her family in their province.
