  • The Aston Stealth is a really versatile, great-sounding dynamic microphone that has so many uses in the studio. As the Aston Stealth is active, this microphone bridges the gap between dynamic mics and condenser microphones. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

I have one of these. It's better than i initially thought. I thought it was just pretty good but it's actually a pretty great mic and really versatile. For acoustic guitars, V2 is really good and just add a little of your own bass roll off. On V1 for men and V2 for women You can get something that's very competitive with a decent condenser. Surprisingly so... The guitar setting also sits very well in a mix.... You might not even need EQ. It's just not what we're generally used to in a raw guitar mic, before processing.... I think the discontinued but this is a really good mic. If someone didn't have a mic locker they could make a really good sounding record with just this one

With you that V1 is best. Quite impressed with the Aston. I cant bear the SM7 - so scooped and noisy. My AKG 414 can woop the SM7's butt anyday!

the 50db on the integrated preamp discouraged me from buying these mics tbh. I saw reviews where people enabled it and then could barely turn the knob on their interface so they had no control when stage gaining mic. Surely it would have made more sense to add in something like a 30db boost?
tbh in the end I probably didn't need to care because I think my mixer could have run the mics fine in passive mode but at the time I didn't know which mixer I was going to buy.

The Stealth has had many plaudits on youtube - but a couple of negs too. These were: 1) the poor stand adapter. It was found to be loose - even to dropping off the stand! and 2) The Mic body is not all metal - the front part is, I hear, plastic - so rigidity and strength do not apply to the entire body. On these two points what are your comments and findings, please?

Hi, do you notice that XLR plugs for mic cables don't exactly "lock in" to the aston stealth microphone? I never feel like my cable "clicks in" to the mic, and I'm not sure if this is by design or if I've just had a defective one. I've had mine since launch

I only reviewed it I’m afraid and didn’t notice any issues with that. Get in contact with Aston, I’m sure they will help you out.
