Actually much prefer the RE320 over this. The 320 has much crisper and more present low end that works really well with your voice. Of course you can achieve a similar effect with the right processing, but the 320 just sounds much better out of the box and requires less processing to achieve a good sound it seems.
I absolutely love channels like this. There is literally so much to learn. I think tjhe hardest part in this day and age is finding someone that is truly genuine in what they do online. Its kinda weird as I found this dude Leon Angus. hes not big but seems like he is definetly sharing some great value accross his content. Anways my goal for this year to to start a new webiste. Hopefully ill be here in a year sharing my success story too. LOL
you are literally one of the only tech focused people who has got audio to a great spot, your dialogue has to be some of the clearest. That's coming from an audio engineer, kudos
I may be biased, but I have an RE320, and out of all the broadcast mics I've heard, even the shure SM7B, the RE320 sold me hard. Like this isn't a bad mic, I guess for my listening taste, my 320 sounds better. Thanks for comparing both models though! Solid video as usual.
I've gotta say that I preferred the RE320 over the Aston. I listened on four different devices; a Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop, Corsair Void Pro Wireless headset, Razer Hammerhead 2.5mm earbuds and a crappy LG XPower cell phone speaker. In each instance I preferred the RE320. It sounded crisp and clean and I could hear the base in your voice nicely on the Corsair headset as well as the built in sub woofer in my laptop. To me the Aston almost sounded distorted or overexposed (I don't know the correct term for what I'm trying to convey, sorry, still trying to learn all this audio technobabble).
Great mic review, definitely thinking of picking one up, recently my RE320 stopped functioning it was out of warranty so I contacted Electrovoice about a possible repair, their response was they don't repair the RE320 only replace it and since mine was out of warranty that means having to fork out for a new one, really disappointing customer service from Electrovoice.
If you can put a decent pop filter in front of the Aston Stealth it'd make a huge difference (which you've already noted in the video). I actually enjoyed the V2 voice (unprocessed) the most which seems to cut quite a lot of the low end out. The V1 also sounds quite good but I prefer the RE 320 over the V1 voice (though I still prefer V2 over the RE 320). I thought the Dark mode would be completely useless but it really does sound like it emulates the darker ribbon mic sounds quite well; I'd love to try that mode with my girlfriend as we usually use ribbon mics to record her voice!
You really should use an external pop filter with this one....i have it in an external shock mount and it's on a (strong) desk mounted boom arm.... It's my favorite dynamic Mic. Very usable for just about anything music related.... And a good spoken word mic.... A great choice for untreated rooms.
@@EposVox You're very welcome 😁 If and when funds & time permit may we see more Aston microphone reviews? They also have a budget option in the form of the Origin as well as it's bigger brother in the form of the Spirit.
Mine is in the post. I'm a voice actor and singer, s I thought I would give this a go. At present, I use the Rode NT1 which is an outstanding mic for it's price tag
This is the first time i hear of childproofing things against musicians, but yeah makes total sense. :D The frequency response plots at 7:40 aren't measured in the same way, there's a different spectrum smoothing applied for legibility to either, and Stealth had more smoothing applied to it. Small differences in emitter position can account for significant shifts in narrow peaks and valleys, because it's all just diffraction, and generally those should be ignored. Imagine if those 4 plots wouldn't align so neatly just because of a bit of randomness, now that would be confusing! So i can see why they heavily smoothed the plot.
It's close...I prefer your voice through the RE320 a little better, although I'd want to hear it with a completely different pop filter before I fully firm up that answer. The amount of plosives it picks up seems to me to be a rather extreme draw back.
Thank you for your review, and comments! I have two questions for you: Do you happen to have a link to the microphone stand you are using? and secondly, I purchased this mic but I am not getting the deep clean sounds you are getting on V1, mine seems to be lacking... do you add any type of compressor to your voice once recorded? I am using a Focusrite 2i2 Audio Interface
@@Pifniii I actually got a better sound now, honestly I think it all has to do with the sound insulation you have when you are recording, at least for me that's what made a huge difference (built a recording booth with moving blankets and PVC pipe, Super easy and cheap!) I am still trying to figure out how to get it to sound like his, however it got a lot better, I am really happy with my set up really. I also believe it has to do with the pitch of my voice, I am more in the high range and he sounds more in the lower range, I also noticed that creating tracks in your DAW using buses to apply plugins also helped, I was originally just adding plugins to each track individually and I was not getting a good sound, before I forget I also upgraded to a better XLR microphone cable because I was getting static noise while recording and it almost felt like it was clipping all the time (very frustrating) and it did make a difference like a champ! I hope this helps.
@@rucosantana Thank you for your feedback. I'm still leaning on this solution. I just moved in to a new appartment, so I have a couple of other investments that got higher priority atm. Good to hear that you're happy with your setup.
I don't pretend to understand the ins and outs of audio... stuff. But I know what sounds good to me and I prefer the RE320, processed or unprocessed, to any of the Aston Stealth voices. However, I still listen to my 6th generation iPod Classic with earbuds. So, you know, grain of salt and all that.
Was wondering the same. It can totally improve the sound of a 150 Euro setup to something that sounds like a semi acustictly treated room with a decent mic.
@@oskrcr989 Already started questioning my own senses. Personally this little box saved me quite some money. Could it be that if you get all the build in components as standalones that the result is way better and more fine tuneable and thats what people are trying to say? Anyways, thanks for proving that we are not insane ^^
I Sent my Aston Stealth back It's a big Mic that has a bad mounting system and I feel that with a little eq you can make just about any mic sound the same or better and even with the pre set eq's on the Aston Stealth I still found my self eq-ing it but I will say the pre -amp inside of it is nuts.
For the aston i liked the v1 the best but based on previous videos and this one i think overall i prefer the re320 the best. Then again i am tone deaf so i have no idea if my opinion is valid to any stretch of the imagination.
Man, just keep your RE320, the Stealth sounds so muddy and weak, almost like the built-in mic of a macbook pro to my ears, I really don't understand the buzz around it...

Agreed.
That’s exactly why I keep going back to my 320 for streaming/podcasting. I don’t need to do any eq. I love it the way it is

I’ve got the Aston Stealth, along with an SM7B on a different setup. I use the Stealth with the GoXLR and I love it.
@mad1701 hi dude, does it sound better than the sm7b with the goxlr ? I mean i don't trust the goxlr to be able to power proprely the sm7b

You know as a voice over guy they always say to put the mic off to the side to stop plosives so you talk directly into almost any mic you’ll get them.
What type of cable are u using to connect the mic??? It didn't came when I bought it 😅

For this mic... Buy a pop filter and a universal shock mount with it also.

I just wondered if I remembered the verse correctly, so I looked it up and indeed, there is no "the" in "Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die".
