As an owner of this microphone, it is absolutely killer for acoustic guitar and especially great for vocals. The amount of detail it picks up is insane.
I own one. For most things the built in pop filter works great. When I am recording clients during sessions, I put up a pop filter just in case. I don’t own the Shockmount, but am seriously considering it, only because it allows you to angle the mic. The direct to body mounting design is awesome and quick, but you just can’t angle it.
Love this mic, we used it in the school studio for overheads, vocals and acoustic guitar. one of the best things I heard this mic do is an acoustic guitar in front of the 12th fret aiming for the soundhole was so articulate but full loved it captured the guitar as it sounded
Could you and Dave do some mic shootouts on guitar cabs? I'm sick of seeing (hearing) the same old SM57 routine all over RUclips. The Aston sounded great on the cab!
initially I feel like the high end of this mic is pretty crispy. Could be great on darker sources but I'm not loving it on your voice. That said, i really liked it on your victory cab.
I don't know if it's your post production on the audio this video but it really doesn't deal with the upper end very well around 10khz when you pronounce S's and F's but the 1 - 2khz response to the diction in your voice is great.
wouldn't put this mic inside of a kickdrum tho, or even directly in front of the soundhole. there's quite a lot of pressure coming from that and I would rather put a dynamic mic in front of it than a delicate condenser
Bea! First let me say, the rycote shockmount is a real favorite, and a recent purchase of mine. Second, I am going back to my rock roots - and I love the progressive, sometimes soundgarden type - tone and style you employ. I would love to sing some vocals/accompanying guitar work for a new project. No strings attached, just for fun. Here is a vocal example of an old track of mine, cheers! Haste makes waste... ;) PS: It's still typo'd in the description though :P PS2: Just a minute ago, i was spreading some Toska love in the direction of a friend, and the response was "Sounds good!" :) So keep up the good work ^_^ PS3: I've never spent more than 140e on a single mic (110-120quid), but i've spent more than a few hours upgrading / modding / fixing the ones i've bought. DIY ftw!
Liked it with the band and the guitar sounded excellent. Did not like it with the overdriven guitar. Harsh. Not a pleasant sound. I own this mic BTW, and own the Origin too.
The new Toska material sounds on point guys! Cheers Rabea.
I was expecting the new Toska stuff to sound incredible. Yet again - it was :-)
Most inspiring guy I have ever seen! No more words needed!!!!

I have this mic for vocals and it’s amazing! Thanks for the review. ☺️
That boy can drum
Peace and love from Bristol, Rngland
Gotta love those gear demos. Also, new Toska material sounding HUGE. Keep it up, Bea!
Why do Aston say it has a built in shock mount and pop shield but then offer both these as purchase-able extras ? Slight weary of that ....

But I would totally recommend the mic. It’s a workhorse and sounds good on everything Ive thrown at it. Would buy it again.

AW MAN IM SO EXCITED FOR NEW TOSKA!!!
The tone and vibe of your guitar sounds really cool! Where can I find some finished recordings.

I've never written this so...first.
Also, where did you get that pedal T-shirt. It's great.
Rabea, great video. I really enjoy your videos, your doing a great job.
Noticeable difference with this mic IMHO. Sounds very clear.
how would an AKG p120 compare in terms of quality? love all your videos man. always informative.

Great video. What acoustic guitar is that?
It's pronounced "Rye-coat". Nice review man. :)

Unless u turn down the mic input on the spirit i guess
Never whisper into a mic that close ever again... Goosebumps for days man.
Another victim of ASMR hysteria.
Wouldn't this be better if you had 2 for stereo for recording the full band sound?
How does it do with vocals? Get Rob and Hannah to throw their voices through it. Some good screams and belting

Wasn't it *Rycote* , that makes (and/or patented) that lyre-suspension thingie? Googling for Trycote didn't bring up much :P

ok for vox but imo try the scx it blows most mics out of the water
I'm late, but what pattern did you use when you recorded full band
hey what is the exact model of the shock mount?
The guitar amp in the room with the full band sounded a bit thin. otherwise solid mic

that Mic is super clean..u can hear the nose hairs whipping around in his nostrils
