    I love seeing people enjoy my backyard as much as they do, I kind of take it for granted that I see emus & Roos almost weekly, I live on the river Murray only an hour upstream from Renmark just over the boarder in the Victorian rural city called Mildura.
    So proud to have you visit our country.

    This was one of the most wholesome videos I've seen all year so far. It's one thing to go and experience something like that but it's a whole different level to experience it with people who are so into it and excitable and happy. That's the aspect that truly hit me. I strive to see a society that's more like that.

    When I was in Australia, I was in Canberra, and the kangaroos would just hop down the street (it did help I stayed with YWAM and they were down the street from a preserve). And the magpies were great to listen to, especially in the mornings and evenings

    After grad McGill in 1986, I treated myself to a long roadtrip! Having drove a Bongo van across the Nullarbor (no golf back then), I was surprised you didn’t see any roos until about Norseman? I couldn’t get AWAY from the buggers! Driving from Adelaide to Penong, sleeping in the van each night, the flies that surround a mob of greys would suddenly fill the van as a curious joey, or an angry boomer would actually KNOCK on the side! Of course this wicked alarm clock action took place just before sunrise… which explains why you didn’t see ‘em, mate! Fair dinkum 🇨🇦 🇦🇺

    The mighty Murray. You were lucky seeing a Goanna and very lucky if you didn't spot a Joe Blake (snake). The term never never I haven't heard in years. Thank you so much Mike for sharing a part of Australia that most people don't get to see.

    • @gold4leaf
      @gold4leaf 4 месяца назад +2

      The term "never-never" to me refers to the Northern Territory due the autobiographical novel by Jennie Gunn "We of the Never Never" based on Elsey Station at Mataranka. Also the NT Tourism used the term in their advertising back in the '80s " you'll never never know if you never never go", not sure if they still use it.

    Awesome video!! Its so nice to see you exploring and appreciating our beautiful home. The Mighty Murray is awesome, not just for its scenery but for the part the river played in settling the interior of the eastern side of the country, and one of my favourite ways to explore it is by houseboat. Cant recommend this sort of experience highly enough, its such a peaceful way to see incredible stretches of Australia, whether its in the largest and most important river in the country.......or just slowly drifting down the much smaller rivers and estuarys of WA's south west. Cant wait to see what you get up to next week. I hope Nicole travels with you again, its always lovely to see her.

    Been to AU many times, but it's always Sydney (where you can see many of the wildlife pictured here at the zoo) or visit my friends on the Sunshine Coast. I retired a bit earlier than expected, so I'll never be able to afford such a trip as this! But who knows how long we'll live and it's better to have more adventures than pricy tours. I just hope I don't live into my 90's and regret the early retirement! LOL Was great seeing Australians enjoying their own country! Great video.

    I went on a river tour like that one, but it was in the Danube delta, in Romania. We got on a hotel boat, towed by a tug, slept and ate in it, moored in different places each day. Then we went out each day on a smaller boat through the channels between the reeds, seing birds, frogs and floating islands. We even went to a wood that had grown up on a sandbank from seeds dropped by birds. It was a local company, Ibis Tours, so most the passengers were Romanian, but the guide explained in both Romanian and English.

It showcases just how bit and diverse Australia is, no different to Canada or the USA in that regard. You've seen a lot of emus to! Cockatoo is the proper name, of once large family of Australian parrots, there are lots through Murraylands, Rosella's are a common Parrot too, and Australia has many, I would say Millions, of both native and pet bred budgerigars too. I hop you loved it and I am looking forward to your Aussie Trains. Still hoping for a travels by trains season in Australia. Paused at 2:15 makes you look like you just swallowed a fly, a normal summer time Australian tradition. Also so Wish I knew you were coming but so glad, as an South Australian resident, that SA was one of the first places you and Nicole got to visit here.

    Hello Mike & Nicolle. Hope you have a great trip. I’m from S Wales UK. I’ve made a few trips to Australia, but I haven’t been on a river break. One great trip I did was to take the Indian Pacific from Perth to Adelaide, then the Ghan to Alice Springs. From there we flew to Cairns and took the Kurunda line. After a few days we took the train from Cairns to Brisbane. Great sleeper trains but expensive. I was on a Package holiday that took 3 weeks.
    Mike, there was an advert on UK TV for a beer on a river bank like you were by. One Ozzie said, are there any crocodiles in there mate? The reply was no, the sharks eat them.

    What a magnificent cruise. In case the kookaburra looked familiar, it's a cousin of the kingfishers that are native to British Columbia. The delightful music from birds at one point may have been (or not) the song of the Australian Magpie -which is not a relative of the magpie found in North America or Europe. Common names are confusing,

    What a cool tour! I can kind of identify with Lawrence's enthusiasm about lifers even if I'm not a hardcore birder. Every time I see a bird I've never seen before in my garden, I get really excited! And the starry night and the moon really impressed me too. I know there's a dark-sky park in the far north of my densely populated country, I should try to stay the night there when there's a good chance of clear skies!

    Stumpy tailed lizards are the only lizards that mate for life. They are so loyal to their partners if one is killed by say being run over the other one will put itself at risk by staying with the body. They also give birth to live young as the eggs develop inside the mother then break and hatch internally. Fascinating animals.
