I am so happy that we non-Canadians finally get to see this epic adventure Michael. Your first episode was great! I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
I can't believe you don't have millions of subscribers. This is awesome content. Just amazing stuff. The people you meet and learning what they do its incredible. You are doing great things. Thank you so much for sharing all this and doing it so we can all learn and see places we will never go to or ever see.
If it makes you feel any better, Mike is probably making pretty decent money. Just because you don’t have millions of subscribers doesn’t mean you’re not successful in your RUclips career
This was great Michael (and Sprouht). I had a summer job a few years ago that allowed me to visit virtually every convenience store on the island, and I remember on my first trip to Robinsons I got out of the car to pet a goat on the side of the road and then followed it for 20 minutes in suit and tie to one of those coastal meadows, gave him a few of my baby carrots, what a spot. Looking forward to the rest of the series fellas!
Newfoundland was once predominately Irish ex pats . Nova Scotia on the other hand is Latin for New Scotland ( I'm a proud bluenoser... person from Nova Scotia). if you go to Cape Breton they still speak Galic and there is a Gallic college as well
Thank you, Mike! It feels like we, the international viewers, will get completely enamoured with Canada, seen through your eyes! The content is superb, and the tempo is perfect - it just sucks the viewers straight into the action. Thanks! Warmest greetings from St. Petersburg, Russia where the nature is very similar to Canada. Believe me or believe me not, but I once saw Newfoundland! I had a brief stopover at Gander airport in August 1990, when flying across the Atlantic.
& I'm from Newfoundland & I once saw St. Petersburg! (The University I was attending had an exchange with an Institute in Cheboksary, & it's hard to go to Western Russia without taking the opportunity to see St. Petersburg, so I was there for two days!)
You know what’s kind of neat? I grew up on the compete other side of Canada in Victoria BC and I as well recall the railroad functioning way back when too but it’s been gone for quite some time
My grandfather was the head dispatcher for the NL Railway. I grew up in his house and he had pictures of all the engine trains on his walls. Because of the CNR he met my Nan and thus I am here. He was forced to retire when the CNR was shut down and it ruined him. All he wanted to do was work. Love to Pop and Nanny Taylor up above us. You were my surrogate parents miss you every day.(Edit:You can still walk the entire train Ed except for the bridges. The trans Canada trail in Newfoundland is basically just the old train bed)
Where do I even begin?!? Mike!!! This is so next level. The tone, the views, the happy feeling…this episode one is exceptional. You are setting a new standard and I am all about it! You’ve balanced fun and informative, authentic experience with tactful and relevant partnership endorsements. I am looking forward to the rest of this series.
Wow, thank you! I'm so glad to hear that, Marta. As you know, I took on this huge series, and tried to raise the level of production, while still keeping it intimate. I'm glad to hear you enjoy it.
I am a resident of Quebec and it is an excellent idea to show us around Canada by train. The shots are magnificent as well as the subjects. Congratulations to you and your road partner for a great job. Already looking forward to continuing the other stages of our beautiful country. Places that I did not know and which are as wonderful as other countries. As I say, each country has its beauty. Thank you for these beautiful shares.🤗🥰
The wait was worth it, welcome back from your US viewers! I made my coffee sat down and enjoyed. Mike said here's a peek for next week and I said surely it has not been 24 minutes and it was! Fastest 24 minutes ever. Love ya Mike!
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a Canadian who hasn't lived there for over 50 years and since I am just a little older than your father and disabled I can't travel back to see my beloved Canada so I am very happy that you are sharing her with me. Thanks. Judi McRae Lakewood WA formerly from Edmonton and Vancouver..
Thank you, as a Canadian who has grown up coast, to coast, I am estatic to see someone explore and appreciate the beauty of our country for what it is. So many unique people, opinions, traditions, and experiences to see and witness
I've been waiting a long time for this and it was no disappointment. You have a real knack for this sort of thing and the result is absolutely professional in all ways. Captain Dave was especially interesting. This was so good tand so full of people and places that I'll probably watch it again. Looking forward to the next chapter.
I was so freaking busy with my life, health and work within last three months, and now can focus back on Mike's awesomely awesome videos! Just finished first episode; The Shipping News is one of my favorite books and seeing Newfoundland in your video makes me want to re-read that Masterpiece. Can't wait to binge more episodes, dear Mike. Cheers!
This is where I’m from and i cant express how much you actually nailed the experience of coming to Newfoundland. I’m extremely proud to have roots here and I’m glad you had a good time my friend!
I've been coast to coast in this great land and can tell you that Newfoundland and Labrador are my favorite places. The people are second to none on the Rock. Labrador however has the best scenery in my opinion. I really enjoy being in places where i can not see anything man made, just rugged natural beauty.
I visited Newfoundland several years ago and fell in love with the area and people. So this brought me back. Thanks! Look forward to the rest of the series
I'm from Vancouver, Lived in NY for many years. Your channel gives me a new appreciation of Canada. Thank you!! " I don't know where I'm going, but I know I want you there with me". Wonderful!!
I miss Newfoundland sooooo much.... brings tears to my eyes seeing this. Thankyou for bringing back some of my best memories. And I hope whoever gets to go to Newfoundland gets to see the puffins! They are my favourite animals on earth
Great video Mike! I've been coming along since watching your Trans-Canada Highway moto-vlogs, so to see the evolution of that as a Trans-Canada Train-Vlog, I feel so proud of you and proud to see you show off Canada in the way that you are! Stoked for what is to come over the next 10 weeks!
This is such a thrilling adventure! About a month ago I began making my reservations for a month-long road trip from Chicago near my home to Saint-Pierre and back. There are so many exciting experiences to be had, and this video has gotten me even more excited.
Saint-Pierre is so lovely! you can walk the entire island in a day its so tiny! Make sure to drop into George Street when you get here to Newfoundland. I believe it has the most bars on one street in North America, and its where he got screeched in, called Christian's pub
I love it, it was a really, really nice experience for me through you. It's such a beautiful places. It's a great places to be. It's like you are in a little bit of a dream world.
Thank you very much for creating this series! As a proud Canadian myself I am very excited to be able to experience travel videos focused on my country. Newfoundland has always been a place I wanted to learn more about, and this video did not disappoint.
I love your travels! I am temporarily disabled and your journeys are keeping me sane. Also Canada by rail is now on my bucket list! I also just made my first Tru Earth order -- thanks for 20% off!!! I'm sure I will be a lifelong customer. Keep having fun, keep smiling, give your darling dad a hug, same for your Mom and sister. Blessings!
Thank you for showing where my Husband was in the Army in Newfoundland. And learning about his adventures. He was not in a war. We got acquainted, in Fort Worth, Texas. Where we were we both grew up.
Mike...your poor mother...LOL. Great ending to an awesome EP 1. Love the production values, and you just are so at ease in front of the camera. It's like traveling with your best friend. These storylines are crazy good too.
You are a fantastic ambassador for everything that makes Canada a great country. The sights of the earth, the people of the provinces, the flavours of the area. Thank you.
A couple years ago my wife and I went from Halifax to Vancouver by VIA rail. We had a sleeper from Halifax to Montreal. Stayed overnight. And the next day got Business class to Toronto. And that evening we had Prestige Class from Toronto to Vancouver. Prestige Class is VIA's top-of-the-line sleeper Suite. Larger room, Queen sized bed for two, your own bathroom and shower. And all the bar service you can drink. Meals (great meals) are included in all sleeper accomodations.
This series is one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had watching RUclips travels. REALLY GREAT JOB, Mike and Will! I now have a HUGE list of things I want to do in our neighboring land to the north. LOVE THIS.
Newfoundland is definitely a bucket list trip for me. I've done every other Canadian province otherwise. The most epic scenery and people in our country 🇨🇦
Thank you and Will and Tru Earth - I have watched all 10 two times - I am 78 and can't see well or go like you both can. Thank You again from Petersburg, West Virginia Your so good at these keep them coming Michael!
So glad to finally get to see this and it was even better than expected. Such great work Mike, and so well shot and presented. I can’t wait for next week.
I loved this! Thank you. One of greatest adventures of my life was a trip in a small plane, from San Francisco, northwest to St. John's. After the pilot's class reunion in Detroit, and a visit with some of his family, we stopped for refueling in Montreal and Charlottetown. (As an Anne of Green Gables enthusiast, when I was small, I was in HEAVEN on PEI ... so beautiful!) The flight over the Newfoundland island was fascinating. From the air, much/most of it appears to be a gigantic dense forest. I imagined everything I ever heard about magic fairy tales that took place in a forest, happening down there. The forestation is so dense that small planes can't readily look for potential emergency landing areas, which was my job as "navigator." However, when a flight plan is filed with Air Traffic Control, in Gander, they make contact with the planes - every 20 minutes, or so - to be sure that everything is OK. Now, I have some clue as to what's really down there. I loved the visit to St. John's. We didn't get to Dildo (I'd have remembered the name), but we visited Petty Harbor, to see the workings of the cod-fishing industry. We enjoyed a lot of fish-'n-chips, as you said. We also had deep fried cod tongues. Lobster, too. On the way home, before dipping south of the border, we stayed in Quebec City ... great French cooking! Then worked our way back to SF. 'm going to love this series!
This 10 episode series is perfect for working from home. I can't always watch it but I can let it play and anytime I look up there's a nice new scene on my screen.. pretty sure this is my 4th or 5th rewatch..
I personally think that you make this trip as a complete series and not just 10 episodes 10 weeks is a lot of time and deserves lots of fun episodes....CIAO
This brought a bit of a tear to my eyes! Wonderful video! Lived in the area around dildo my entire life until I moved to Halifax and watching the beautiful shots from dildo just made me extremely homesick. Thank you for actually taking time to visit the small communities and shining a light on the nice spots! keep it up! :)
I was SO looking forward to this. As a railway worker of many years I thank you for presenting your beautiful country with its wonderful railway to us. But 🤔... wine from New Foundland? Wow! Never thought of that!
YES! First Nelson Tramways, then BCER, AND NOW NEWFOUNDLAND RAILWAYS! Covering all of the best lines. Oh yeah, and I can finally watch the series. WOOO
15:07 WHOA.... I thought i had done a pretty crazy job restoring the original wooden LÉVIS train station sign, white paint with the beveled corners painted black and the original black paint lettering (took me 2 months, with a teeny tiny paintbrush so as not to alter the original hand-painted shape of the letters) - you can see a similar sign on Jasper's station still, and they used to be all over Canada... The Lévis one i recuperated when the station closed in 1998, and after restoring it, i screwed it on top of the wall in my studio in Lévis. But the whale skeleton??? That another level. Captain Dave is really a badass!!! 👍
Oh my God! I really miss your videos! So glad they are back! I think everyone wants to travel to Canada just to see everything you have been showing all this time 🥇🥇 love it!! Thanks for the opportunity, Mike 🙏
Visited St Johns twice in 1969 on USCGC Sebago going to and from Ocean Station Bravo (located between Labrador and the southern tip of Greenland). Visited twice more in 1973 on USCGC Vigorous going to and from International Ice Patrol. Always wanted to go back, especially after watching this video. Looking forward to your upcoming series.
Never been on the east side but the view while on Pirates Haven ATV ride looks spectacular! Hopefully one day I can visit🤩 Thank you for the virtual tour!
Newfoundland is the best place in the world. Thanks for bringing me back! Been on the mainland doing university for too many years and I cannot wait to move back!!
As a Newfie, thanks to this our tourism has been down lately for clear reasons and a lot of those mom-and-pop shops are struggling NL is so pretty and welcoming I love it here and you will to if you wanna visit
Hey I went to school and graduated right up the road from the rail way I grew up in colliers which is the next town over 5 minute drive actually ....I'm 24 years old and will always be proud that I grew up here and still live here .. glad your showing people that we aren't much different than everyone else we just sound different ..much love from st John's newfoundland.
This is the best thing I've seen since Billy Connolly's Journey to the Edge of the World. It's fascinating to see the cod population bounce back since Connolly's series. Really good effort by the fishermen and the conservationists in NL. Keep up the good work Mike. It was great to meet you at White Rock, BC.
I have lived in Newfoundland my whole life ! My dad is a guide for western Newfoundland. Loved this video.. good job .. thank you for showing my sweet part of the world 🌎 ❤
I would love to explore more of Canada. Never left Ottawa since I came to Canada but after watching your videos, I really want to explore myself as well.
I cried watching this. I moved to live with my then boyfriend in a town nearish Grand Falls-Windsor. They forced me to move back to Ontario after we had a fire in our apartment and his mom didn't want to keep me there. I'm suffering from PTSD from everything my ex put me through, and that translates to having trauma about the island/whole province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This also extends to the Maritimes as well. I continued watching not only because you're presentation style is so interesting and attention grabbing, but as a sort of exposure therapy. I returned to Ontario back in March, and we broke up fully after 3 months of torturous back and forth. He told me he cared about himself more and that's the last time I heard his voice. He got a new girlfriend 2 or 3 days later and they're still together now. He never loved me and it still rips me apart. I still have belongings held hostage by his mother who refuses to mail them to me and I've had several plans to retrieve them fall through for health and financial reasons. I need to go back to the island to get my things and close that chapter of my life. I need to go there to dissociate the island from him, because it is a beautiful land with lovely people. I need to make the experience one that is my own. One that I can cherish forever. But until then, I suffer everytime I see or hear the word Newfoundland. I cry whenever I see a piece of labradorite. Newfoundland dogs and Labrador retrievers make me tear up. Coming across people or watching videos or shows with Newfoundland actors freezes me in place. I can't enjoy life right now because somehow the Island is everywhere. I cannot escape it, so by watching this video, I'm choosing to embrace the tears and the sadness. Today I saw a quote from a Facebook group based in Newfoundland (I was reading an article about AI photos of birds of all things! The photo discussed was posted to this group so I took a peek at the group). The quote said: "Let your tears of 2023 water the seeds you plant in 2024". And how fitting is it that such a quote comes from the place that has given me so many tears over this last year?
Glad you got to go to Newfoundland 😊 The Newfoundland hospitality is second to none, always making sure you never go hungry. I hope you remembered to get some Gravol, for motion sickness. Sometimes if you’re travelling on the Cabot Strait, the ocean waves can be choppy.
The old Newfoundland joke about the speed of the Newfie Bullet train was that a young woman gets on the train in Port aux Basque and starts talking to her seat mate. She reveals that she is headed to the hospital in St John's because she is due to give birth. Her seat mate looks at her and says "you don't look pregnant" and she replies "aye by, but I'll be full term by the time we makes it to St Johns". Love Newfoundland. Our old cabin has damaged bathroom fixtures that were cracked during one of the trains many blow overs in the notorious Wreckhouse area of the Codroy Valley, so named because of the high winds that blow in off the gulf and caused the train to wreck many times!
This is my favourite of all your videos yet. This whole series should be fantastic. As a Canadian heavily into the outdoors, who also LOVES train travel, this is going to be incredible!
@@DownieLive FYI...I've crossed Canada b bicycle...and by solo canoe. Crossing by train, that has been my next favourite. Keep up the good work, can hardly wait for episode 2 from Nova Scotia (that's where I'm originally from). Be so cool to see a shot of the old train station in Amherst Nova Scotia as you go by.
Great video. A couple of notes, 1 Toutons are typically made from bread dough and fried. Yes typically eaten with molasses, but some prefer them with pancake syrup. 2. The railway here was a narrow gauge system, and couldnt accommodate the mainland cars without an axle change.
I am so happy that we non-Canadians finally get to see this epic adventure Michael. Your first episode was great! I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
Awe great!!
10000000000% Agreed
If you want to see more of Newfoundland and the crew at Pirates Cove check out East Coast ATV videos and his Crossing Newfoundland by ATV videos.
I can't wait to re-live our trip - so stoked that we got to do this entire journey together. LET'S GO!!! 🙌🏻
I love watching your channel to see your view of the trip! So positive! Keep up the great work!
Awesome guys!! Great content
Your videos were great too !!!! You guys definitely know how to bring the adventure to our living rooms!! 🤙🤙💪💪

Newfoundland is hands down one of the best provinces in Canada, The people, the places, everything about it is awesome.

I personally think that you make this trip as a complete series and not just 10 episodes
10 weeks is a lot of time and deserves lots of fun episodes....CIAO
This brought a bit of a tear to my eyes! Wonderful video! Lived in the area around dildo my entire life until I moved to Halifax and watching the beautiful shots from dildo just made me extremely homesick. Thank you for actually taking time to visit the small communities and shining a light on the nice spots! keep it up! :)
This was a lot of fun to watch, looking forward to the rest of the series!
I was SO looking forward to this. As a railway worker of many years I thank you for presenting your beautiful country with its wonderful railway to us. But 🤔... wine from New Foundland? Wow! Never thought of that!
In Norway we have cloudberries we call them Multe and they are very sought after….taste like heaven with cream. Grow in marshy places
YES! First Nelson Tramways, then BCER, AND NOW NEWFOUNDLAND RAILWAYS! Covering all of the best lines.
Oh yeah, and I can finally watch the series. WOOO
This is really cool. I look forward to this series. As always, love your posts and your spirit. Be happy and well.
Thank you, young man. Your spirit has made me a kinder happier man. Love ya kid.
Let the journeys begin. Yessss! I love my Saturday once again.
Your trips are always an inspiration, looking forward to the rest! RIP your mom.
That was amazing. I really need to get to Newfoundland. Cant wait to see more
So excited for this series! Looking forward to travelling throughout Canada with you 😀
Yay! Thank you!
Oh my God! I really miss your videos! So glad they are back! I think everyone wants to travel to Canada just to see everything you have been showing all this time 🥇🥇 love it!! Thanks for the opportunity, Mike 🙏
Yay! Thank you!
Thanks for this upload Mike! It's really great seeing you traveling again! Success, safety and happy trails on your new adventures!!!
This was soooo much fun to watch! I love your series!
This is one of my dream vacations is to take a train across Canada 🇨🇦. I can't wait to see the rest of the series.
Newfoundland is the best place in the world. Thanks for bringing me back! Been on the mainland doing university for too many years and I cannot wait to move back!!
The True Earth travel packs are so cute; I'm on it. I'm loving this series.
As a Newfie, thanks to this our tourism has been down lately for clear reasons and a lot of those mom-and-pop shops are struggling NL is so pretty and welcoming I love it here and you will to if you wanna visit
Born and raised in Newfoundland - thank you for the fantastic joy and wonder you shared of my home province ! So many hidden gems 💎
This has been on my bucket list for a decade!
Shubham! Awesome! Thanks!
I have lived in Newfoundland my whole life ! My dad is a guide for western Newfoundland. Loved this video.. good job .. thank you for showing my sweet part of the world 🌎 ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Newfoundland is absolutely gorgeous and is definitely on my list for visiting !
I would love to explore more of Canada. Never left Ottawa since I came to Canada but after watching your videos, I really want to explore myself as well.
So thankful you're bringing us along...absolutely enjoy everything you're posting. Thanks!!!
This was amazing. Mike’s videos are some of the best travel videos out there.
The quote said:
"Let your tears of 2023 water the seeds you plant in 2024".
Normande and I are glad to have you back on here today. Remember your next trip may be to South Africa with us on Rovos rail
Sounds good, David!
Nice to see parts of the country where my grandmother and great-grandparents were born. Thanks Mike!
You bet!
Wow, thank you!
The best is yet to come. IDKWHGNBIKIBTWH.
This was amazing! Looking forward to the rest of the journey!
Awesome! Thank you!
That couple that asked you to join them at the start. So wholesome ❤️
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!! An excellent start to what I'm sure will be a great series. So happy for you and looking forward to following along.
Great video. A couple of notes, 1 Toutons are typically made from bread dough and fried. Yes typically eaten with molasses, but some prefer them with pancake syrup. 2. The railway here was a narrow gauge system, and couldnt accommodate the mainland cars without an axle change.
