Through storytelling, vivid imagery, and poetic expression, Lindi reminds us of our deep connection with the living world and urges us to protect it. Spoken Word Poet, Lindi Nolte, teaches creative writing, facilitates workshops, performs and lives in Vancouver, BC. She has a rare ability to transform simple truths and insights about the human experience through the language of the heart and soul. Rhodesian (mostly barefoot - Always had to have hat on our heads tho') childhood both in Southern (Salisbury) & Northern (Lusaka)... Frangipani trees everywhere... Mango trees everywhere - one mother tree Full of ripe mangoes... Avocado trees - lemon trees... Peach trees... We all still have our own teeth... Halcyon childhood... Pet python named Joe...Guinea fowl...pet rescued baby vervet monkey named Barney...
Aaaah wot a life it was... Africa is so beautiful...

As someone who spends everyday in nature climbing a cherry tree in my backyard, walking barefoot, watching snails, bugs, birds, wild flowers...who likes to scratch a little bit of earth just to smell it and breath it in deeply, I am moved to tears by listening the poem❤️ As if she is my best friend who loves the Earth, the nature with every fiber of her being , passionately like I do.
A beautiful rendition for all of earth's children specially those that enjoy the feel of sand between your toes.

Thank you Lindi, I'm forwarding your poem to my daughter far away, studying in Bulgaria who will relate to so many of the words & experiences you express which similarly shaped the beautiful perception, compassion, love & commitment within her character to respectfully play her bare feet part in contributing to this ecosystem that is earth. What a wonderfully honest outpouring of Love, from someone who, from an early age was fortunate enough to have been guided to 'touch the earth, with her soul' as well as having been shown the wonders which many city dwellers never get to experience, while caught up the many frivolous trappings, which become their 'membership' to an often insular existence.
I am not saying that all 'city dwellers' lead a life which doesn't allow them to make contact with the wonders of nature and beyond, but there is nothing like getting some 'clean dirt' under your nails, dust on your feet, and being able to observe or even commune with other fellow earthlings, many of 'our kind' consider insignificant. And that is just scraping the surface of the experiences Lindi so beautifully expresses in her 'Love Poem to Our Earth'.
I consider myself fortunate, to also have learned from an early age, to experience the wonders of 'being at one, with Mother Nature, her kith & kin and seeing the things which city lights often draw a curtain over', blocking its wonders, from view.
Please take some of your precious time to experience the journey of enlightenment, this talented and observant lady takes you on, while expressing her love for ‘Our Planet’, the only place we can call home.....

Just brilliant, Lindi! Especially connected with the part about the Kruger Park, my favourite place in the entire world. My wife, also ex-SA, and 3 Canadian-born children absolutely love it there, and my childhood memories of many holidays in Rustenburg, and many more in the Kruger Park, are amongst the happiest of my life.
It's been 7 months since you wrote this, but I just re-read this message after a particularly difficult day and I just wanted to thank you for your gratitude and message. It lifted my spirits today.
