Broken Bench Grinder Restoration

  • I found a completely broken bench grinder at a used tool store. It had been left outside for a long time, completely rusted, with the motor shaft seized and some parts broken. From the label on the machine, I was able to find the specifications, origin, and manufacturer. I restored it completely, let's watch together!

      Dude sure Hulked out on -those cover guard- *all of the* screws. I'm surprised more didn't break.

    Nice job and all that. I don't think I've ever seen a motor that splits along the axis parallel to the shaft. It seems like a pretty good design.

    You overtightened the acrylic cover mounts. You can see the crazing on the hinge mount. That's rough. Otherwise, I enjoyed your restoration.

    Pomaga luzować zapieczone śruby.

      In the video I used wd-40 but it didn't work. Steel screws screwed into aluminum surfaces are very difficult to open when rusted

      BTW the other commenters are talking about penetrating oil and a torch mean to apply penetrating oil ( a very thin oil which can go into the small space between the screw and body ) and a blowtorch on the screw, the blowtorch will heat the metal and cause it to expand, allowing the screw to break some of rust and come loose, as well as annealing the metal so it isn't as brittle, preventing catastrocatastrophic shearing, I.e. breaking of the screw

      I tried using heat and oil but it didn't work. Or maybe I have to soak it in oil for a long time

      When those two screws broke, I thought about giving up. I've never restored anything with so many broken screws.
