Fire marshals test exit signs for atleast 30 seconds

The one inspecting is actually the cause for violations. Proper testing should be don’t with 90 min burn test … fire dept code requires emergency lighting to remain lit for a minimum of 90min. if burn test is not an option, use a load tester. If that is not an option, every battery comes with, what looks like, random numbers… it’s the MFG Date… batteries should be replaced once every three years.

Inspecting these isn’t my job…I just test these when I see them in public. So no, there are no violations because this testing is merely supplementary

No, you don’t need permission, but obviously it looks weird and can look like tampering. I only really do it in places where there’s not a lot of people.
