  • I cannot believe it's been ONE YEAR since I quit my job as a TV news reporter. HOW?! Today I decided to sit down and answer questions you asked, like whether or not this was a good financial decision, making money, regrets, stress, how my relationship has changed, would I go back & SO MUCH MORE! (I think I answered about 30 questions total!)

Hellloooo! My name is Clancy and I'm originally from Long Island, NY, whch is about 40 minutes from NYC. In 2017, I moved to Ohio to become a TV news reporter, but after waking up at 2 a.m. for 5 years, I decided to leave that job and pursue RUclips full-time.
I love making all kinds of videos, focusing on everything from money and finances (saving, budgeting, and being financally independent in your 20's) to health, fitness, and nutrition, to beauty and fashion. I'm getting married next summer so I also love providing wedding updates and showing you exactly how I'm planning my own wedding.
I LOVE making "what I spend in a week" videos in the cities I travel to and love week in my life-style videos the most! Let me know if there's anything specifically you want to see!

Thanks for your transparency. It is shocking how low reporters get paid especially considering their work volume and degree requirements, on top of the expectation to move (perhaps away from family) to get a start in a smaller market. Add that to the proliferation of toxic newsrooms.

Believe me, the 9 to 5 grind is just as deadly. I retired 2 years ago, and it was 3 years early. I never looked back. Finances are tight but I do not regret it. I had a series of horrible bosses and it really wore me down. One thing to think about is that the YT job is flexible and would allow you to stay home with any future children without having to put them in daycare. When I was your age, I would have been ecstatic to be in your situation. But you have to do,what’s best for you and Zac. ❤️

I think every job becomes a grind. I was in sales for a long time and I felt like it was a constant pressure to bring in the numbers/sales…exhausting! I think during the pandemic was the first time I noticed you were not happy. Anxiety is so very difficult and having a job that causes you to be anxious isn’t worth it. It is hard for me to believe that with all the doctoring Zac has done his medical issues have not been resolved. It makes me lose faith in the medical community..

Hybrid is the absolute best schedule. I personally don't mind 9-5 in and of itself, but when I worked fully in person I felt burnout coming on so fast. My job was pretty boring which definitely contributed to it, but the monotony of going to the same office every day and being in traffic was a bit soul sucking haha. My job now is more relaxed and fun, but the fact that it's an office job doesn't bug me bc I have the ability to work from home twice a week. It gives so much flexibility for traveling, doing activities right after work without having to commute first, preventing burnout. Hybrid really helps you feel like you have more control and that work doesn't have to take over your life.

You’re definitely not missing anything from the “traditional 9-5” world. I work in corporate America in Insurance. Great pay, YES!. BUT, my daily stress is at where you were working as a TV news reporter. Pre-covid I worked in the office (cubicle work-blah). Last 3 years working FT remote. The hardest part of working “9-5” (730-4 for me) is juggling work and getting my daughter on/off the bus, can’t just go to the post office, dental appts etc during the day. I wish I didn’t have to take time off to do basic errands /appointments during the week. You are lucky as an influencer where you have a flexible day. If you have kids you can be home and still get paid without being stuck to a rigid schedule. Great video as always Clancy!

I didn’t have that before and I am so thankful for it so I do think sometimes people just get lucky haha. I wouldn’t say no to keeping your eyes peeled for that “dream job” situation! Non-competes are being thrown out of court (of course, they were being thrown out even back in my day and that didn't prevent stations from putting them in contracts lol), so I'd encourage anyone stuck in one to at least speak with a lawyer if they don't want to move. So working on the other side of some of the stories you’ve had to report on. I was a firefighter for about 2 years. The work that went into getting it and being a career firefighter as a woman I had a really hard time letting go. This was my dream job and I thought for the longest time it was the wrong decision but I know it was the right thing now. These jobs are so demanding and the lack of sleep was a serious issue. When you were waking up to report on a fire that happened in the middle of the night those firefighters also had hours of work put in and still hours to go. I’m glad you made that decision and you are enjoying it! I left not long after you left so I feel like we went through it together 💗

I was going to start a new job in January but wanted to see if we were going to have to move if my husband got a job in a different state (which he did, we moved outside of Charleston SC from FL). And then we got married April 30th. Then we actually moved. So thugs are slowing down and I have to get the SC state license before I can start applying for jobs. But I’m running out of money so I need to find a job soon. You were actually part of the reason why I’m majoring in Public Relations. My school didn’t have a social media major (they have a minor but I’m also double majoring in Theatre Arts so I just can’t fit it in), but they do have a few classes within social media for the PR major. Watching you and so many other RUclipsrs since I was 11 (I’m 21 now) really did inspire me to pursue that. Hearing you mention that in this video as an option on the table for yourself really does make it feel full circle.

Have u ever considered starting a second RUclips channel where in you harness your reporting/researching/editing skills, perhaps highlighting topics or ppl you feel need highlighting in documentary form, or perhaps even interviewing ppl who you admire/have built something awesome/overcome diversities. I’d watch, the camera loved u

I'd be curious to know if there is still stress of being "on" often with your current job as a content creator? I would imagine that always trying to get good shots or film things for content takes a toll on just being in the moment and enjoying an experience alone or with friends/family.

What really helps is that my vlogs are truly just me! I think it would be stressful if I was trying to act a certain way, but because I’m just documenting my authentic life, it’s not really stressful!

I changed careers and quit being a hairstylist and I still get asked even by people I barley know if I’ll ever go back. As if they want me to. I was a stylist for six years I fully gave it a shot and there were so many cons it wasn’t worth it for me. I kind of wish people would stop asking. It’s ok to leave a career if you’re miserable and it’s not worth it for you. Also you are employed with YT idk why people are acting like you don’t have a job.

Romantizing it is so accurate. I made a great move last year but I definitely romanticize my old company, I know because I miss the people. I like hybrid. I don’t like in the office 5 days or home 5 days. Be careful with corporate because some firms are going back to 5 days in the office. My son took a hybrid job at a major corporation last December and they just forced everyone to come in to the office 5 days. He is livid.

There is a local newscaster here where I live and I was going to shoot some pics to put on my website and our photography group were going to shoot pics of her also but then she told us her boss said no.
