I see myself, with a poker face, saying STANDBY....then turn off the radios, engine, battery, phone..walking away. ... homer's bush hiding meme on screen
Very nice Pat ! Good job on the clearance. One thing I do differently is get all that squared away before starting the motor. Flying to MFD no big deal but out of Boston or any busy area you know there will be delays and a much more complicated clearance. So either a handheld or turn on avionics get IFR clearance program Foreflight as a back up then ( make sure you turn it all back off ) start engine then program the 430 in the plane saves a little fuel and $50 or so on the Hobbs also the engine running for me is that much more stressful again just a tip because you fly pretty flawless. I was looking forward to the approach into Burke. though :-(
Thanks Joe, as a new IFR pilot I have to learn all these tips and tricks! Great idea about the handheld. I just wish I knew when to expect delays and long clearances and when not to.
Hey Pat - Great video! I happen to be a Cirrus pilot based at Norwood, and also recently IFR rated (well, Oct 2017). If you’re ever back in town and need anything, LMK.
I filed a simpler route that was previously cleared and flown by another piston single just a week prior but they decided to change it on me. Just have to roll with it! Definitely a good learning experience.
Robert Passarelli Yeah, ForeFlight really helps especially for a clearance like that! I was having issues with the sound on this trip. Have to check my cable setup.
I’m actually based in Cleveland. First time flying into Boston. Visiting family. Yes, the Cirrus is really great for cross country IFR. Where are you flying from?
Pat Cicerchi it is super busy , and can be intimidating with JFK to the west and KISP to the east , however if you can handle KFRG and train there you can go anywhere .. ATC has a big workload with all the flight schools but they are very helpful . I like flying there , I think that's how I got up to speed on my comms
Well, I'm guessing because of the TFR along the route and departing the busy class B of Boston they wanted to make sure I was where they wanted me in case of lost coms. It definitely made for a busy flight!
I've had that same clearance for the first 250-300 nmi out of KBED multiple times. It's not rare. I think it's complicated due to airspace boundaries and due to deconflicting arrivals into the NYC airports. At 6,000 going direct would put you too close to KTEB let downs, I think.
What a great controller. He knew what a monster it was and went nice and slow.
Yeah it's always helpful having a calming voice on the other end. Thanks for watching!

What the hell kind of clearance is this? Geeez!
That was a long noodle ;) And the rest of the recording showed me that the next step is to actually fly it 😱. Thank you for posting this.
Look at all the equipment in that cockpit 😯😯
Awesome vid. Earned yourself a sub
Thanks for watching!
When I fly online and the controller, says, “I have a full route clearance. Advise ready to copy,” I think “Oh boy!”

Anytime. If you want to fly anytime this fall & winter let me know I usually grab 8GT on Sunday mornings to stay current.
Yeah that or just call Clearance Del on the phone before start up. Then turn on avionics to enter the flight plan, then finish start up.

Oliver Claus thanks for watching! It’s a great airport and I’ll definitely be back.
Geez ... that was a long clearance!
If weather permits it’s VFR for me when flying near NY and Boston.
lmfao "wow that was a mouthful"
Nice,
Question : Did you filed the IFR flight plan with that route or filed direct and got that route?
I filed a simpler route that was previously cleared and flown by another piston single just a week prior but they decided to change it on me. Just have to roll with it! Definitely a good learning experience.
@@patcicerchi I see, great work there.
Its all victor airways and GPS waypoints... Out of SMO you get multiple vectors with times and/or multiple radials with times - in the clearance
What about just the first couple, and then "as filed"...
So much for direct!
Steve Reinhardt No kidding!
I know we should comply with routing BUT in this case it wouldn't be easier to go GPS direct ?
I hate getting full routes like this was I file slant G...
ah.. Norwood.. memories....
Hey I fly out of BKL at T&G.
Let's do VFR...
Nice flight plan, thank goodness for ForeFlight, and a bit quite on the sound, so had to really increase my volume to hear everything clearly...
Robert Passarelli Yeah, ForeFlight really helps especially for a clearance like that! I was having issues with the sound on this trip. Have to check my cable setup.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
Nice flying . the cirrus is a great IFR plane , are you based at KOWD ? , I,m planing a flight in there soon .

trained and rent an SR20 at KFRG , busy class delta on long island NY .. nice channel , subscribed ..
Thanks Aidan! Just looked up KFRG, wow seems like a tough place to train!

I'll just call an Uber after that clearance
I am interested as to why you received a full clearance like that. Do you have any feedback?

that is one sexy pilot!
