According to local Reddit Punk forums Las Vegas has a fairly small punk scene. The "punk" museum is kind of a joke. You can make you own record and your own clothes and be 100% relevant. He was writing other wild stuff, and this was back in like 2013,2014. So he basically burned his bridges with the skateboarding world years before the Trump thing. He could be sponsored till this day, like Alva, Hosoi, Cab and other old school skaters are

I am 59 years old and skated from the mid-70s to the early 90s. I know a lot of the history of skateboarding and definitely know who DP is. I understand he has had issues with substance abuse. From what I understand people have tried to help him multiple times. I just hope he will help himself at some point. You get older and can’t do the things you could get away with when younger. There has to be a game plan at some point in life. “You “ are the only one who can make sure of that. You can’t bank on anyone else but you!

I’m 57 and you kids need to listen to the voice of experience. If you think you’re gonna waste your life in bar rooms, in and out of jail and just be a public nuisance then pull it all together at 45 or 50 years old then you’re gonna end up like Duane. Life doesn’t work that way. You have to get an education or learn a trade while you’re young and then work diligently for a good 10 years and then you’ll have worked your way up the company ladder or started your own business so you can make the money required to keep a roof over your head and food in your belly. I feel for Duane but he done this to himself and is a living example of what happens when you get old and have thrown your life away.

All you have to do is look at his history and how he's treated people in general and actually how he's treated himself. You can't live a life like that and not expect it to catch up.
Well, I guess one option to actually get a job if you need money right now and continue to sell your stuff. This guy did come up with a few moves. Notably I believe he invented the Indy air which is still one of the most Bitchin Aires ever! On the other hand, this guy would show up to skate parks I used to ride in the 70s and he was terrible to everyone. So now you’re fast forward and all of the attitude and BS Has gotten him nowhere. So the lesson that can be learned here don’t constantly shoot yourself in the foot. Whoever put this documentary together, great job!

Without a doubt in a small window of time in skateboarding history he made some huge contributions via tricks or as noted, the title of Thrasher magazine. After further thought of this Doc I've come to another conclusion. I've been skateboarding from 1975 to present. Really haven't slowed down so pretty blessed there. But I also made different decisions in life to put me where I'm at which gives me the freedom to choose to skateboard etc. I never had super star status. Did pretty good in the 80's with CASL contest but good skateboarder over the duration of decade. So one has to wonder was it worth being all that in the spot light for 3 to 5 years and then fade away from the public eye. Because unless you had some tie or skated in the late 70's no one knows who this guy is. I've never had a younger person use his name in a skateboarding conversation.

Ya! don't know anything about that side of his life post early 80's from skateboarding. I wasn't much into Punk other than Generation X and Agent Orange and that is debatable compared to harder punk rock bands.

I checked out his store on eBay a while ago thinking maybe I could buy something and help out. But everything is like $200 to $1000 or more. I left comments on his RUclips channel with suggestions of coming out with merch that everyday punks and skaters can afford. Like some basic T-shirt designs, patches, buttons, stickers and socks etc. Because it would make more sense to sell a whole lot of items for $20 or so that every day people can afford than it is to try and sell some punk skate art for $1500 to one person every once in a while. So I'll try again. I wish I could help Duane. He was a massive influence on my skating when I was young, and I appreciate that he always speaks his mind. I understand his thinking and feel bad he's essentially been blacklisted because of where he lives. If anyone could point me to where I could buy his paintings I'd appreciate it.

It sucks to see Duane like this as he was awesome to watch and was 1 of the skaters that influenced me when I skated 20+ years ago. I may be completely wrong on this as I truly don't know but I heard a few skate companies (I think smaller companies or shops) saw his story and offered a paid sponsorship to him but told him he gotta tone down being outspoken and the bs but he refused to accept those terms. Again,I just heard but IF it's true then he shouldn't bitch about being homeless.
