I'm Tome, a Portuguese who puts together nerdy punk stories about my favorite bands. It's a hobby.
I narrate most of the videos, occasionally using a British-not-a-robot-friend's voice on some. I also use block texts.
Focus on punk groups from 1975 to 1999, with exceptions - unaffiliated with bands - leveraging "fair use" for songs/clips.

The Ghost Story of Su Tissue and Suburban Lawns
Here's Tome's Discord Intergalatic Planetary Server: discord.gg/BXzgjskz
In 1978, a group of creative friends from the California Institute of the Arts came together in Long Beach to form a punk/new wave band that would later become a cult favorite: Suburban Lawns. At its forefront was vocalist Su Tissue, whose stage presence-marked by an air of boredom and discomfort-added an enigmatic charm to the band’s performances. Since 1986, there hasn’t been a single public photo, interview, or any clue to confirm her whereabouts-or even that she’s still alive.

King Uszniewicz: The Worst Band I Ever Heard in My Life
Просмотров 15 тыс.12 часов назад
In the early '70s, in a dark corner of a bowling alley in Detroit, Ernie Uszniewicz, who called himself "King," was a really lame and out-of-tune rockabilly singer who dreamed of becoming the next Elvis Presley. He led a band called The Uszniewicztones, playing all their songs in the key of E because it was the only key he could sing in.
The Locust: Most Annoying Band in California

It's 1999. Justin Pearson, a member of a grindcore band called The Locust, decided to prank The Jerry Springer Show with a made-up story involving his three roommates. Beyond the fun of it and the opportunity to stay in a fancy hotel, there was also the chance to promote his band by wearing the logo on his T-shirt for the whole world to see.

The Wild Story of Wilko Johnson

Game of Thrones producers were searching for the scariest, most silent, and expressionless face to portray the cruel executioner, Ser Ilyn Payne. Someone who looked like they could scare little princesses with just their presence. What you may not know is that face belongs to Wilko Johnson, one of the most influential guitarists who helped give birth to punk rock.
The Wild Story of The Screamers: Ghosts of LA Punk
Просмотров 35 тыс.14 дней назад
Jello Biafra once called The Screamers "the best unrecorded band in the world." Indeed, they never recorded. Yet, their music and style left a significant mark on the Dead Kennedys and countless others. Pat Smear of the Germs-who later played with Nirvana and now Foo Fighters-was a fan. So was Exene Cervenka of X. In 77, Iggy Pop invited the band to perform a private show for him in Malibu. He ...

The Wild Story of Nick Oliveri

Faced off against a corrupt judge in Brazil and endured a four-hour standoff with a SWAT team in LA. Arrested as many times as he was kicked out of bands by his childhood friend, Josh Homme. One moment, he was recording with Slash for Sony; the next, he was laying down tracks for a raw, underground GG Allin tribute. This is the story of Nick Oliveri: the punk side of "Stoner Rock."
Ripped by Bowie, Banned from Space: The Psychobilly Cowboy’s Wild Ride

Norman Carl, known as one of psychobilly's pioneers, had his music banned in space, was ripped off by David Bowie, and effectively "killed" every song he covered-all while trying to create his own, uh... rock 'n' roll... cowboy... err... space thing. And s you, Elon Musk, because he launched rockets first. His spaced-out country-western style, featuring a guitar and a bugle, earned him the moni...

Check Nikolas Schreck musical work here: nikolasschreck.bandcamp.com/ Started in the 80’s LA punk scene, became satanic, founded a gothic band, appeared on Wally George's show, married the daughter of the devil, had his ear chopped off, became friends with Charles Manson, founded his own church, before later converting to Buddhism and other things I couldn’t quite understand. Cock Sparrer, The Oldest Punk Band in Britain

United Kingdom, 1972. Miners on strike. Embassies ablaze. West Ham supporters raising hell like it’s an Olympic sport. And right there in the thick of it were a group of East End kids who, when the final whistle blew, didn’t just head to the pub-they headed to practice. That was the year Cock Sparrer was born.

What Happens When You Steal from a Rock Legend?
I saw them at Cal State Long Beach , around 1979-80? what a crazy night that was like a harmonic convergence of utter perfection & chaos , everybody I knew went .
Peter Ivers made some wild music himself
Wow, haven't heard about them in years. Had their LP. Really enjoyed all the old music and vintage film footage. Well done!
She would have been a phenomenal lead for Slint.
They're from Peoria IL where Bloody F lives
Saw a show at The Whiskey where X opened for them. Also their weird multimedia performance, might have been their final show. Thanks for the wonderful video. Fun times.
Duanes new channel is called Petersbuilt skateshop
"howd ya get your name big dick?"- Unknown Hinson. allegedly.
ok but what is the song that sounds like smells like teen spirit? i just gotta know
Not usually into punk, but Su has a unique charm about her, and it definitely shows in her music. I like her.
Johnny we love you!
The covers, by comparison, show how brilliant and original Sue's voice was. Her timing, intonation, everything, all just beyond. I recommend listening to the incredible "My Boyfriend" (it's here on RUclips) which was only mentioned as the B Side of the Gidget Goes to Hell single.
She's the new wave DB Cooper
I was fortunate to see them live in Houston many decades ago. Loved it.
Sue Tissue was a true dadaist. I wish her well wherever she is.
Haven't heard much out of Hank 3 in awhile but i did get to catch him live a couple times. The only show ive ever been to where punks, rednecks, metal heads, hillbillies and joes were all in the same room. Good times
They out shistapoobahed The Dictators
Ah shit I forgot about this band. If you weren't in the Locust or HORSE the band back in the day you were losers
Great band. Even if they could reunite it would be horrible. These dudes are almost 80 years old and Klaus really doesn’t sound great on bass anymore.
Fun FUN😎
LOL. no idea about Satanism. just stereotypical crap.
I totally enjoyed this. Thanks Tome.
My dad got me into them. He's seen them play in Montreal a few times
Sounds better than a lot of so called punk bands. This is punk. Zappa would have liked this I believe. 👍
Suburban Lawns was a staple of college radio FM stations in SoCal. It wasn't hardcore by any means, but it was better than listening to typical FM radio stations playing annoying shit like Journey, Styx, and Loverboy.
This band is sick af
5:10 they were also in the game trials rising with their song scenery going by
I've never heard of and I really like them !
Neurotic Californian punk rock, as a sound, has to be up there with the greatest. The Screamers Shopping Inflatable Boy Clams The Longshoremen Suburban Lawns As well as those mentioned in this doc. It makes me wonder what else I missed.
I stayed up late just to watch New Wave Theater every Friday and Saturday Night Flight on the then fledgling cable channel USA Network. Was so entranced by Su and Subarban Lawns as a teen growing up in the mid Atlantic states. Thanks for this video, hope she decides to grace us with her presence one day on her terms.
Unknown's full legal name is Stuart Daniel Baker. Stu D Baker is exactly the kind of thing Unknown would name his youngern.
California just copies what happens on the East Coast, but with lower quality versions
Sounds like a pop yoko ono! I like the music☄️
Nick and Dude from incubus needs to form a two bass no guitar death punk cover band, that just violates all the pop and grunge rock hits
Friends with the Night Stalker. Professional turd.
Su Tissue and Patty Donahue of the Waitresses we always my favorite vocalists of this genre. As a matter of fact they both have an Akron sound.
thanks for putting this together! for a laugh look up the story that inspired "Janitor"
What a fucking awesome band
I used to remember Smokin' in the Boys Room would come on the radio as a kid in the 70's and you just knew there was another kind of cigarette because of this song. You never was around the stuff but you just knew. They come across like Slade. Both of the two groups biggest song was covered by musicians who were way more of a poser band. These guys look like they're trying to find creative ways to make girls laugh and get laid. The other groups(Quiet Riot and Motley Crew)were like look at us "we're cool", we're deeply insecure...but cool. 16 years old or so when the Beatles come to America, they see all the screamin' girls.. Yeah...not hard to figure out.
The most underrated riffs in the genre!
They all sucked
I think it's better not knowing exactly where or what happened to her, it keeps everything interesting and mysterious.
This is the first time i'm hearing of the Lawns. Great video. Was born in '83 when their last EP was produced, and not from California, so it seems the stars never aligned for me to discover this gem until now. Thanks for covering this, and the editing was excellent. Edit: subscribed
The type of cunts that like this band are the same that say “being conservative is the new punk”. As lame as the people they are trying to offend. You can stuff the lot!
*_Su Tissue and Ian Curtis would have made an iteresting couple and even more interesting children!_* 🤔
I was a young adult in the 80s and remember listening to Janitor back in 82. We used to sing, oh my genitals. It was only played on college radio. Now there are no radio stations that play punk
Not heard of Suburban Lawns before but I've been listening to the Snooper cover of Unable for ages without realising it was a cover
Great Video! Lots of footage I hadn't seen. Boom boom boom boom!
rich kid art punk.
COME BACK SU HONEY! WE NEED YA!
