I attended 4 days of the 2-week trial in San Francisco when the band sued Jello. Jello came off SO bad. He looked like a sweatshop owner being caught abusing his workers. Wasn't just me that thought that, the jury thought that and ruled against Jello. DH Peligro was working as a DHL delivery driver during the trial, while Jello withheld royalties, that came out, too. Jello even made a point in trial to try to prove that HE was the mastermind, he wrote all the songs, and the band where just low-value employees who could have been anyone. It looked awful for him. Jello also tried to grandstand and acted like it was one of his spoken word shows, he didn't notice he had a hostile audience. Juries are usually working people who can't get off jury duty, can't afford to be on a jury, and are losing money being there. (At the time, jury duty in San Fran paid 5 dollars a day.) This never should have gone to trial. Jello turned down doing it in arbitration, could have paid out and settled out of court and saved everyone a lot of money, and not ruined his reputation as hard as quickly. But he took it to a jury trial of working people in a city that loves worker's rights, and came off looking like Mister Burns blaming Bart Simpson for getting hit by Mr. Burns' car.
What a disappointment. Not only the legal problems, but the fact the band are still going with only two original members as the "Dead Kennedys". They've basically gone the way of Journey, Foreigner, and The Eagles. On a smaller scale though.

I lived the same apartment building as DH Peligro in Echo Park, Los Angeles from 2001 until he moved out a few years later. Got to know him a bit, hung out in his apartment and had a few long chats. One thing I learned, that not many people know, is he was functionally illiterate. DH could read, but barely, like 1st grade level. Jello had to know this, being in a band with him.
