Here is one cool lap (unfortunately stopped by a yellow flag) behind this small crazy car, complete custom built by CB FAHRDYNAMIK (check his instagram!)
The car is very fast but the driver aswell!
I let him pass before flugplatz as my tire were a bit too hot already to push and also to watch from behind the car working as it is fabulous :-)))

the Opel Speedster is actually an elise underneath, just with a different powertrain. It's a really good chassis.
This guy has balls of steel... Nordschleife on the limit with this wheelbase is no fun (own a speedster myself) as I want to stay a speedster owner - - > no nordschleife again... The tighter the track the better for this car (like cadwell park)

Love the way how the guy in the speedster positions himself to have the best exit while you stay closer to the apex. Awesome lap👌
What a beast of car. But much more impressive are the driver skills! Uses nearly 100% the perfect line, very often late apex. And to hit that very sweet spot right at maximum speed on this track is really amazing!! I wish, I had these skills and reactions. Impressive! 😎👍
What a cool lap to watch. So funny. For 30 years I drove all the sports versions of Opel and now I bought a 996.2 GT3 and watching you, been overtaken by a Speedster 😂 - shall I buy again an Opel?

Lotus Elise chassis that was used in the Vauxhall VX220 or Opel Speedster. Even better when they put the Turbo engine in the back.
Totally unique chassis. Not an Elise. I was a project manager at Lotus. Everyone thinks it was an Elise underneath. It was not.
@@markorchard2272 very interesting. So give us your honest opinion. At the time of it's production, which car was held in higher esteem by the guys at the factory? I owned an S2 Exige S for a short period of time and currrently own a heavily modified 2.2 speedster. I have no idea what a stock Speedster was like but mine is way less refined than the Exige. I guess the stock wheels and were pretty silly on the Speedster.

Saw it in tf, so fast you don't see it coming in your mirrors, and after it's so small and so close to you that you see over it, especially when it's greyish outside ! Should get the car in some colorful wrap :) Still, amazing car and I had a good emotion laugh when I got passed !!

C’est étonnant à quel point il arrive à tenir des trajectoires Ecole avec son speedster, et on constate qu’il ressort très fort et qu’il en tire profit sur le droit. On a qd même souvent tendances à plonger trop tôt à la corde au nurb, du aux dénivelés favorables. Mais là preuve semble faite qu’on peut patienter un peu plus
Ce qui est aussi impressionnant c'est à quelle point il est rude sur sa direction dans son Speedster. Il fait rentrer sa bagnole de manière ultra-carré, et ça tient malgré le transfert de masse.

The Elise is such a capable platform, excellent driver, very well prepped car.
I was a project manager on the speedster at Lotus. It is NOT an Elise chassis. It is 100% unique.
It is totally NOT an Elise platform. I know. I worked as a project manager during its development. Unique chassis. Unique production line.

I'm sure you short-shifted a few times to give him space, in general I think he gets on the throttle out of corners a little harder than you were. I don't blame you for driving carefully, but I think on good tires you can get on the throttle earlier out of corners.

You could see that Seb was faster, but imagine, that car is 20 years old, manual, 2.0 turbo. This car was seriously fast driven and very well preped 🙌👌 great respect

I have a Speedster turbo for 15 years, slightly ameliorated and it is amazing, especially in the wet. about equivalent to a GT4.
Speedster turbo, the better Elise! Handcrafted at Hethel Lotus factory. I have one from 2004. Still eats Porsches and M3 M4 for breakfast………

@@markorchard2272 So, when you need a new chassis, you can’t find it and the Elise, Exige chassis won’t fit? Parts are rare, but a lot of Elise parts fit. The Opel GM unit is very tuneable. I have now 435nm torque and 255hp with minor changes. I’m saving for an upgrade to 290hp. Cost 3500€.
@@449Raphael No. You can't use an Elise chassis. The early Speedsters/VX220s with the NA 2.2 were better imo.

someone is driving those speedsters or gt even today wow? Well they are good for the track, small, light, rear driven, plus good opel 2.0 turbo. You can tune it easily.
Working towards it
After watching this I just Jumped on Forza MotorSport 4 with my sim rig(Fanatec Porsche GT2 Wheel,pedals, 7sp shifter) to build an Opel Speedster to S-Class 659 then raced it on the Nurburgring in “Rivals” mode with traffic… It is now my favorite car and it’s not even maxed out yet😳! 170ish mph top speed with insane acceleration and handling. I now see how it was walking off on the GT2 MR😵💫😳!!

Opel its a beast but porsche was just havin fun by followin it. U can hear the gt2 driver release throttle many times to keep stay behind without passing him.
Obviously he is a great driver, but some of the opel's lines & setups seem a bit erratic & braking seems to be early. Of course there may be good reasons for some of that, but it seems.... twitchy. Then there are sections where he just seems to walk. Wonder who it is.

Yes it is twitchy. Because that's what happens on such a short wheelbase with a big ass turbo. Not easy to drive.
