It will never be as smooth as an eletric hypercar. And it will not have the same smart power managing that 4 engines can give. It will be fast, but the weight distribution, the aerodynamics and even the ground would not be enough.
You lucky sod 🤪, with headphones the sound inside the car is bonkers... it must have been absolutely nuts inside the car. Phenomenal amount of engeering not just by Lotus but all the partner orgs as well. Next level driving by Dirk Müller.
Dedicated race car, true, but I can’t get over how a 1980s Porsche 956 Endurance Race Car was quicker! From the NINETEEN EIGHTIES! Or how ludicrous their WEC car was to run 5:19.
Hybrids are fast , because they have the acceleration of an ev with the top end of a petrol motor. The Porsche lap on 919 evo is insane, that car rockets from 80-300 in an instant then the ice engine carries the speed till 370 or 380 when the electric boost runs out. Its a symphony of peak performance.
That was an heavily modifed WEC car, to be fair. But what a glorious project, to get a car with a "roof" to modern F1 laptimes. Way higher topspeed than Evija X despite tiny battery and hugely less peak power as well. How much power was left at the end, to go 350 kph? Maybe under 1000 hp? It's even got DRS for crying out loud. I know not a lot of time is won adding 30 kph at top speed, but still...
It's wild looked at in isolation but when you step back and see the specs and what other cars accomplish at lower budgets with restrictive regulations, even on road tyres...it seems pretty underwhelming to me.
@@stubonesid r was a purpose build racecar. This one is based on a road car with road car mechanics like the gearbox. This car is impressive even if it is not the fastest. Maybe u lack knowledge in automotive engineering to understand what an achievement this is.

It's still not really impressive as we don't see Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro lap time. Then I'll care because there is a fair benchmark to make comparisons. It would be better if the road car was faster than the Mercedes AMG One. Anyway, 6:24m is a very good lap time. Congratulations 🎉

All I'm thinking is the amount of down force , and tyre compound that is simply keeping this car on the track without it taking off is truly mind blowing. 🏅

Really nice work from Lotus here. This is the kind of cutting edge that racing usually operates in and develops out, with some of what's learned percolating down to consumer cars. With electric cars, I would think there's a lot of room for tweaking since it's nowhere as refined as gasoline cars.
Nevera als needs to be brought back on a cooler day. Without all the heavy data logging equipment. I'm a bit disappointed with Nevera. Like AMG One and Lotus Eletre, it gained many hundreds of kgs since sales started. Why??? Bad engineering or bad sales tactics?
I mean it looks mental, so how a 919 Evo was over a minute faster... 😮 And a 1983 Porsche 956 was 13 seconds quicker! Only 6 seconds quicker (or possibly 11 for the "full" lap) than an AMG One though

I had just finished watching a gorgeous video about Iceland, stepped away with earbuds in to grab another slice of pizza. Next video starts in queue and I hear nothing but whistling wind. I assume YT selected another Iceland landscape, but to my complete surprise it’s a record-setting ‘ring lap!!!!!!
Bit of a stretch to say it's got loads of concessions to being a street car... I imagine it's only good for one lap before it needs charged and cooled again? To be honest, I find a Mercedes AMG GT Black Series going 20 seconds slower with just over 1/4 the horsepower and street tyres much more impressive. Because it'll do 5 laps in a row and drive you back to the hotel in relative comfort.
@@Dtp2296 all of that cools down on the straights. the heat soak on ICE cars is not anywhere near as severe as electric cars. it's only really a problem on very slow speed power circuits. which this isn't.
Those Prototype cars are something different entirely. This is a monument achievement considering what it is lapping against. Electric cars have such a different feel as well. When your not on the throttle it feels almost like your braking. You have to absolutely keep the throttle down cause if you lift you won't coast like a combustion engine, you will be hemorrhaging time when you lift much more than you traditionally would. So I can imagine getting past that sensation would take some time for the driver to overcome. Incredible marriage of man and machine. I would LOVE to lap the Ring with that car. I know the track by heart these days. Would be so interest in what zi could do in it.
The 1 & 2 are full blown racecars prototypes. This car you can technically buy. Racecars requires special licenses & no road use. Atleast in the US im sure European countries are even more strict on regulations.
There is no real way to overcome weigh. Bellof's car was....650 kg? Less? Evija X add a full ton? And a mild crash would kill you, as he sadly experienced shortly after. I find modern (race) cars too heavy. A lot of the weight seems to be there for safety...because it's so heavy.
@@Cloxxki For purpose-build modern race cars, yes, it's because of the much higher safety standard. For this particular project...I think it's the battery weight that dragged it down. From the onboard, it honestly felt like a Bugatti at times especially under braking, the car was struggling at corner entry even in places where the acceleration zone was short.
Am I weird for enjoying EV sound? People say EV sucks because it lacks the sound of an ICE but that trademark visceral, demonic screech that EVs make is something else. It is so subtle but so scary. I am not a car guy so I don't know what makes that sound. Is it the batteries, the motors or the driveshaft I have no idea but I hear that unmistakable sound in every EV pretty much. This high pitch, skin tingling sound. I love it!
Same opinion here, or even some quieter one it still sounds like a spaceship/an electrified supercharger whine Also the sound came from the electrons in the motors I believe
yah this looks horrible. if i wasnt convinced by ev tech before im definitely not now. you can just tell how heavy this thing must be with those batteries, it looks very unstable under braking, and the battery must be completely fried after one lap. not only that but it was probably the most boring on-board ive ever seen with with no noise and no shifting.
I did not understand. He continues to say “we got 2.2 mw of battery”. The lotus evija x has a 70kwh battery. (2200kwh would be insane and insanely heavy). So does it mean that it can give 2.2mw of instant power?
and and ice car can do it till the cows come home, this thing needs to be cooled by dry ice and recharged after one lap. i bet the electricity used to power this lap could probably power 2000 homes as well. we are really taking a step backwards with this ev shit.
@@AC-wl7ve you could technically power even more homes with the gasoline in the ICE. the fuel tank of a car stores about 3 to 4 times more energy than the batteries in an EV (gas has 30x the energy density of batteries). so that's not a real argument. but the rest, yeah.
So how are EV cars supposed to be the thing of the future when you have to do all these things to make sure the battery doesn’t explode?? My guess is that gas is here to stay. And thankfully so.

It will never be as smooth as an eletric hypercar. And it will not have the same smart power managing that 4 engines can give.
It will be fast, but the weight distribution, the aerodynamics and even the ground would not be enough.
So smooth and silently.
@@danielvipin7163 not to mention they didn't have the budget or time to put in a big ICE engine in there. Easily could have 400-500 more hp.
That was a shorter circuit
double on kg
Absolutely incredible
It's wild looked at in isolation but when you step back and see the specs and what other cars accomplish at lower budgets with restrictive regulations, even on road tyres...it seems pretty underwhelming to me.
@@Cloxxki It's only 14 seconds faster than the UNMODIFIED Porsche GT2 RS that has 1300hp less and cost 1.9M$ less!
This car is insane, wow!
Yet still slower than the VW.
@@stubonesid r was a purpose build racecar. This one is based on a road car with road car mechanics like the gearbox. This car is impressive even if it is not the fastest. Maybe u lack knowledge in automotive engineering to understand what an achievement this is.
@@TheTechnoaddict this is also a purpose built racecar.. its not roadlegal.
@@AndrewTSq it's based on a road version with road legal mechanics. The id-r is not.
@@TheTechnoaddict dude, it's a mere 6 seconds faster than an actual road legal AMG ONE that is not build specifically for this track. Chassis and the drive train, that's what it has from the street legal version. Body is purposely build for this, taken everything out that is not necessary. Literally making it into a race car and it was still just 6 seconds faster that an actual street legal car and barely 14 seconds faster that a freaking Porsche 911 that you can actually see on the roads from time to time. It's embarrassing calling out hypercars, but literally doing the exact same shit
Kudos to the driver. What a ride. Thoroughly enjoyed watching that run.
Milton Abbas + Fontmell Parva = Milton Parva? Lovely cameos, story line and great modelling. A unique set of videos. Please keep them coming.
Agree.
6:24:047 - 6th fastest and he didn't die - so pretty good I'd say
919 porsche faster. how about mc murty spierling? also why full electric when you can combustion to replace most the batttery with super capacitor and fuel with electric motor er wheel, allowing max power to weight ratio? electric car is not even best for "environmental" or financial issues compare to lightweight effceint hybrid because combustion fuel is anaerobic bacterial mass that is sustainable unlike battery and solid magnet electric motor (the normal stuff) which cant be fully recycled. let alone as high power machine like this
@@ouch9326the 919 isn’t based off a street car though
Absolutely insane. I can’t even imagine what that feels like. That car is pulling over 1G accelerating at 192mph 😅😅
Thanks for this exclusive. Absolutely impressive. What a feat of engineering and design, dedication and development on Lotus’s part.
i'm pretty sure its km/h, still unimaginable for us normies :D
All I'm thinking is the amount of down force , and tyre compound that is simply keeping this car on the track without it taking off is truly mind blowing. 🏅
Лотус!!! ЭвиЯ!!! Это шедевр!!! Не на одну Эру лет!!! 😊❤
Looks absolutely brutal
I started to watch this video with so much hype and excitement (not knowing it was a air head ) but when it paced around the the Nürburgring I fell asleep to the wind slushing noise it made at over 280km/h it was so whipishly relaxing I fell asleep to this video and had the best sleep of my life now I am commenting on it feeling fresh and it is a beautiful new sunny day good morning to Team Lotus much love nd respect 😄✌️
damn it looks crazy insane.
be nervous, damnit...now, "go!" 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏! Breathtaking! thank you..verry much.

Compare to the much less powerful 911 Evo though ;-)

Really nice work from Lotus here. This is the kind of cutting edge that racing usually operates in and develops out, with some of what's learned percolating down to consumer cars. With electric cars, I would think there's a lot of room for tweaking since it's nowhere as refined as gasoline cars.
Wow, that’s like a video game! Great job Lotus! Thanks for sharing James! Amazing life you live! ☁️ 9️⃣ vibe…
This is NUTS

Shame they didn't bring the production spec, in order to compete with the nevera and try to take the record.
They will never beat a Rimac
Nevera als needs to be brought back on a cooler day. Without all the heavy data logging equipment.
I'm a bit disappointed with Nevera. Like AMG One and Lotus Eletre, it gained many hundreds of kgs since sales started. Why??? Bad engineering or bad sales tactics?
Well done to All involved & technology aiding Engineering perfected by Years of Racing.
Great place to Race…Top Job Jim Bob..🛠
Gotta love the haters. Just enjoy the ride for what it is. Great car and driver.
Now, let's lap a "standard" Evija just to see the difference in performance (and also just for fun, because why not)
I mean it looks mental, so how a 919 Evo was over a minute faster... 😮
And a 1983 Porsche 956 was 13 seconds quicker!
Only 6 seconds quicker (or possibly 11 for the "full" lap) than an AMG One though
That lap is the limit I believe it's infknsane you have to imagine how hard he was pushing , just , next no no THEE level no one going to beat that record anytime soon I don't believe, but if they do, well I would eat my hat 😂😂
The track ia very different now. It gets overhauled and modified every winter
6:35.183 for the amg one
@@coolguy_2997 yep, hence me saying "or possibly 11" (I couldn't be bothered to check that the Lotus did a full lap)
in 1983 the track was only 13 miles long - don't compare the two.
LOTUS is back in the game
I had just finished watching a gorgeous video about Iceland, stepped away with earbuds in to grab another slice of pizza. Next video starts in queue and I hear nothing but whistling wind. I assume YT selected another Iceland landscape, but to my complete surprise it’s a record-setting ‘ring lap!!!!!!
OMFG, first minutes I was looking for any prove this is not speed up video… wow incredible rapidly fast. Hard to believe ❤❤❤
Its crazy how fast this was amd then to think there are even faster cars outthere and one did it in an active race.
The 919 evo was unrestricted after it raced, which is when it set the lap so it wasn’t during an active race but I can see why.
@@Theq50guy12 He was talking about the 956, not the 919.
@@watchnocatch171 i see now
Bit of a stretch to say it's got loads of concessions to being a street car...
You do know any internal combustion car can only do 1 lap before cooling off also? the tyres, brakes, heat soak in all the engine components.
@@Dtp2296oh so they change cars every lap in the 24 hour endurance races?
@@djdalby The are not balls out max speed. It's endurance.
@@imtheguvnor so modern properly cooled race cars can only do one lap full out….got it.
@@Dtp2296 all of that cools down on the straights. the heat soak on ICE cars is not anywhere near as severe as electric cars. it's only really a problem on very slow speed power circuits. which this isn't.
Flying a Jet on a pre-determined coarse
Congratz! Fantastic performance! The BOSS 919 EVO is 65 seconds away with room to improve if needed...
So, worlds fastest lap is the 3rd fastest lap?
Fastest hypercar lap. 3rd in the world.
Hypercar? Categorically maybe?
The 1 & 2 are full blown racecars prototypes. This car you can technically buy. Racecars requires special licenses & no road use. Atleast in the US im sure European countries are even more strict on regulations.
Wow will be a customer track only car
Shows what is technically possible
40 years after Stefan Bellof but still 13 seconds slower
I love it!
Same opinion here, or even some quieter one it still sounds like a spaceship/an electrified supercharger whine
Also the sound came from the electrons in the motors I believe
Nvm it’s the sound of the magnetic field in the motors
Yes.
The Evija is one of the most beautiful cars to have ever been built.
Very weird watching a Ring lap, and not hearing the rev and acceleration of the engine. Somehow takes away from the thrill and excitement.... 😕
2005, The late great Sabine Schmitz drove a standard Ford Transit to a record 10.08, that's far more impressive.
Crazy that a gt2rs is only 20 seconds slower with 1/3rd hp and 1/3rd downforce.
yah this looks horrible. if i wasnt convinced by ev tech before im definitely not now. you can just tell how heavy this thing must be with those batteries, it looks very unstable under braking, and the battery must be completely fried after one lap. not only that but it was probably the most boring on-board ive ever seen with with no noise and no shifting.
That’s insanely fast. The sound though? I wonder if we’ll evolve to love it.
❤😮legendary whistling notes...this is incredible machine
And it crashed a simple launch just recently lol that might be a world record
I was metres away I can’t believe that happened 🤦♂️
Petrol engine please
Absolutely impressive, thank you. It would be interessting to know how many laps in a row the car can do with high speed.
I did not understand. He continues to say “we got 2.2 mw of battery”. The lotus evija x has a 70kwh battery. (2200kwh would be insane and insanely heavy). So does it mean that it can give 2.2mw of instant power?
horrible lap. worse than a GT3. just a lot of power
😂👍
You can't compare a real car with a battery on wheels...
These boring ass ev cars still can't touch proper race cars (ie combustion engines) around this track
and and ice car can do it till the cows come home, this thing needs to be cooled by dry ice and recharged after one lap. i bet the electricity used to power this lap could probably power 2000 homes as well. we are really taking a step backwards with this ev shit.
Lotus doing Lotus things.
That was awesome to watch.
That's about the speed and accuracy I used to be able to do that track on games consoles. I think it Forza I used to play on with totally souped up car's and achieved a lap in 8 minutes ❤️💛💚

Great Vid, JWW, and sound quality, too.
Amazing! Missed the sound of an "petrol " ICE though, that's also what gets me about EVs racing e/o... or even generalky on the roads, hearing them. Saying that though, that speed was WOW .. geeat driver and team all-around
