    I own a Model Y Performance, but I hope the Mustang Mach-E sells well too. The more electrics on the roads, the more affordable EV's will become as competition forces the automakers to make a longer ranged, faster charging, and overall better car than their competitors. I wonder how seriously they would've taken EV's had Tesla not of lit a fire under their feet.

    I gotta say I do really like the way you review competing cars with one of you taking the side of one car and the other taking the opposing side because it ends up being a more complete and in-depth review. It plays out how arguments about competing cars usually do in real life/ on the internet which basically ends up making the review answer the most pressing questions first.

    I SLIGHTLY prefer the Mach-e styling, and the heated steering wheel is something Tesla SHOULD offer, but the Tesla soundly wins everything else that I’d value. No contest.

    • @kitoyobeni1
      @kitoyobeni1 4 года назад +2

      Experience certainly is a bonus. These brands should even out in the future (along with other brands to come). I don't understand why the interior styling has to be so harsh, while they barely update the exterior styling. Car makers can't get the grille out of their designs for some reason. Teslas could be so much cooler in exterior design, yet they opt to be bland sedans for the most part. The Mustang-E looks like every other crossover on the market for the most part. Get creative, please!
      As far as options, I can get heated/cooled seats and steering wheel in many cars. Something as forward thinking as electric vehicles should definitely have these options available if not included.

      I believe the Model Y's made in China now have a heated steering wheel, so it's likely to come to the US. Like you said though, Tesla definitely wins for pretty much everything that matters (ESPECIALLY charging), but it's great to finally have a pretty good competitor.

    Glad to hear Ford will be doing over-the-air updates, like Tesla. To me, this is crucial. These cars are loaded with tech, and the software that actually propels the car is constantly improving. You get up in the morning, and your car runs better than it did yesterday because of an update your car received while you were sleeping. The Chevy Bolt, incredibly, requires a visit to a service center to get a software update.

      @Mark Kahn the reason why Tesla hasn’t seen big improvements in the last 5 years is because they’ve been the only major car company doing it. Once other car manufacturers fully jump in to the EV wagon like Ford and GM, it’s pretty safe to assume that it will cause a chain reaction in the industry that will significantly increase RnD into the technology.

    • @colscott5016
      @colscott5016 3 года назад

      @Mark Kahn considering we used some type of horse transportation for over a thousand years, to driving cars in the early 1900’s, to putting a man in the moon only 50 years later, I think that speaks for itself. If there’s money to be made, organizations are willing to invest millions and billions of dollars to do it. They just have to be convinced about it, which is what we’re witnessing right now with everyone jumping on the EV wagon.

    • @WhiteWolfos

      @Mark Kahn the fact that they had a couple design breakthroughs this year and practically eliminated traditional tabs and high cobalt content while increasing capacity, reliability, efficiency and overall range (14+% in the sedan model)in effect does say they are moving forward pretty quickly. They are currently working on another itteration to eliminate cobalt and still increase battery performance.
      Not 40% quickly but more than likely over a quadruple of that 5% by 5 more years. With the biggest mine deposit of lithium in the world just found nearby (Mexico) close to their Texas/California stations they have more legroom to improve faster.

I know of one forum maintaining a list of them. As a matter of fact I just returned from my local Ford dealer who is not charging any ADM on the Mach-E. These legacy auto manufacturers with dealership models clearly have a more complicated scenario to work through than those manufactures with true direct sales models. It will be interesting how this plays out over the next few years as more and more legacy auto manufacturers and their dealers pivot to EVs.

      @@jdockii So far they have failed to do so. Other manufacturers have had a lot of time to do software correctly, but so far they’ve failed miserably at doing so. Take the Audi Q5, for example. It has an awkward, small, unresponsive 20Hz display. With a separate pad where you have to DRAW what feature you want the car to use. Or the Mercedes C200, a car I’ve driven a lot. Which also has an awkward 10-20Hz unresponsive display, with bezels that are practically bigger than the actual screen. Not to mention a very dated looking operating system that requires you to BUY a separate SIM card in order to update it. Mind you, that SIM card will cost you well over 150 dollars. To interact, there is an equally unresponsive touch pad and a dial completely separate to the screen. Compared to what Tesla has composed in their short lifespan, the technology that is implemented so far in other big, veteran car brands is just.. An outright embarrassment. If you put the two next to each other, there isn’t even any competition to speak of.
      Both the Audi and the Mercedes are far better built. They feel like they’re designed and assembled with care, by someone who knows what they’re doing. But their tech? They have a LOT to catch up on in that regard.

      Although I agree that it isn't a traditional Mustang, Ford didn't call it a Mustang for no good reason. I think that they called it a mustang because as we know, the Mustang is associated with speed, performance, power, muscle, etc... and by giving the Mach-E the mustang name, it can associate it with speed, performance, power, muscle, etc... therefore making it a better competitor with other performance electric cars (Tesla!). And lets be real, no one is going to be deciding to buy a mustang and a Mach-E. Just my two cents!

  • @LMacNeill
    @LMacNeill 4 года назад +1

    Ford missed a *huge* opportunity by not calling this car the Model E.
    1) They own the name "Model E." Tesla wanted to use the name Model E instead of Model 3, but Ford wouldn't let them. How awesome would it have been for Ford to not only deny Tesla the license to use the name, but then to make a competitor and call it the Model E?!
    2) The name Model E reminds people of the name Model T -- the car that put America on wheels. The car that took the automobile from a niche product to a mainstream product. The Model E could've been the car that put America on *electric-powered* wheels! It could've been the car that turned the electric car from a niche product to one that *everybody* will own!
    3) And Ford wouldn't have pissed off half their customer base by naming this car after the iconic Mustang. This car is *NOT* a Mustang in any way, shape or form. It *IS* an awesome car, no doubt!! But it is absolutely not a Mustang, and never should've been named after it!
