    Thank you so much Sir for taking the time and sharing this wealth of information. I have a 2002 Lexus IS 300 Sportcross but there are relatively none or few videos for boosting the IS with an automatic transmission until I saw your post. I am in no way, shape, or form an expert nor am I mechanically inclined to get into this kind of project especially that I am now 55 years old (boosted fogey). Knowing the list of items to purchase is a good place to start. Thanks a million SIr.

    The part about the turbo oil feed really cleared up the main questions I had about the oil system, thank you! On top of that T-fitting, I plan on running a filter relocation that also has a port for an oil pressure sender for an aftermarket gauge. That'll help monitor failsafes and help serviceability with an FFIM.
    Man, this video really shows the ingenuity needed to successfully and reliably boost on stock ECU, brilliant!

    judging from the shifts, transmission could use some shimming for solenoids for gears 1-2-3. will make a big difference and it will hold more power and wear those clutches slower.

    • @MrPhukyew
      @MrPhukyew  2 года назад +1

      It won't make a power difference unless there is slipping happening but there's not. I do however like the idea of better power handling ability but this setup would never need it. The car only gains about 120hp and the trans has proven for years now to handle the gains in stock form. To take the power any higher you would need standalone engine management and then you couldn't run this trans anyways

  • @BongoisaPyro

    You forgot to mention the important part is the secondary butterfly plate in the y portion of the intake manifold that needs to be removed and or kept in the full open position it will close on you when WOT full boost causing weird acceleration issues also the vacuum line connected to the fuel rail SHOULDN'T be blocked it has its own FPR already the one vacuum line you should delete is the valve cover going to the intake manifold that should be removed immediately because it pressurizes the valve cover and sump. No Bueno you'll be blowing oil pans off and bolts off doing that. But this goes for anyone who isn't routing the vac lines to the front of the turbo.

    • @MrPhukyew
      @MrPhukyew  3 года назад

    • @MrPhukyew
      @MrPhukyew  2 года назад

      It's not nearly as critical as you think with the lower boost level. The GE engine in stock form can hit about 500 horse at the wheels before it starts falling apart. This setup here just takes you from the stock 180 at the wheels up to about 280 at the wheels. It just makes it so the car isn't so damn boring to drive around it's not a race car and as long as it's maintained well and you're not beating the piss out of it while it's all heat soaked on a hot day it is reliable. Oil cooler is highly recommended

There are also some incompatibility issues with the throttle body on those manifolds if I remember correctly it's very very complicated or nearly impossible to run a forward facing intake manifold with the stock ECU

    • @MrPhukyew
      @MrPhukyew  Месяц назад +2

      Yes the green top non turbo 7mge injectors do fit but there is a little bit of ghetto rigging you've got to do with the o-rings to make it all fit. I ran mine that way without a regulator for a long time but it did need more fuel over 6 lb of boost so I ended up doing the regulator which fixed that and got me a solid 8 to 9 PSI.
      The problem with that is it might be too much boost for the factory ignition map so colder spark plugs and tighter plug gap help as well as making sure you are running the best quality fuel you can get from the pump. If you add a large oil cooler for the engine then it helps prevent detonation as well by keeping the entire bottom side of the engine much cooler.
      I drove mine year round here in Phoenix Arizona with the AC blasting all the time and didn't have issues.
      Using a slightly bigger Turbo helps a lot to prevent detonation as well. The turbo I had used probably was giving a little bit more hot side pressure than necessary which will create detonation.
      This car is still alive and doing well and belongs to a friend of mine.

    11PSI ECR 11.24:1
    18PSI ECR 12.68:1
    ECR is equivalent compression ratio. Safe limit on the GE is 6psi, what's considered safe on a stock GTE is 18psi they have similar ECR. Coincidence? I think not. Detonation is what kills the GEs. Put 15psi in a GE and thats like putting 30psi in a GTE. Thats why ring landing failure is the most common failure in nat GEs.

    • @MrPhukyew
      @MrPhukyew  2 года назад

      You were pretty much correct until that last part, with proper tuning a lot more can be done than what's in your list there and there are lots of factors involved. The car in the video is on 6psi with no tuning ability at all for ignition timing. I'm not sure what compression ratio is factory on an is300 variant of the 2jz but ecr or "dynamic compression ratio" calculation needs cam timing involved to get an accurate figure. Ringland failure has little to nothing to do with this as typical ringland failure happens when you don't have enough ring gap for safe expansion. The problem you are pointing towards is detonation (I'm assuming) because your talking about compression ratio. Trust me when I say this car would be on 10-12 psi if I was able to properly tune ignition timing.

    • @blu3flare25
      @blu3flare25 2 года назад

      @@MrPhukyew Go past around 15 psi+ in a GE even with a perfect tune and it WILL blow the Ringland's because of detonation. Unless your running some crazy high octane fuel maybe. And i originally thought it must be that too, but no its not ring gap the GE has the same ring gap as GTE i looked in the manuals of both.
      So my point is detonation from high compression is what kills the GEs not the weaker internals necessarily like everyone says. So the high CR just adds insult to injury to anyone that doesnt do something correctly with a turbo ge setup. Ive never seen a bent rod on a GE only blown ring landings and GTE has almost same exact pistons biggest difference is its dished out for lower cr.

I really like the descriptive video you posted and realized you are somewhat near me as well 🤙🏼

    • @MrPhukyew
      @MrPhukyew  Год назад +1

      @@Static.jce10 no cams are plug-and-play. See when you add boost your goal is to add fuel in the required amount. Sometimes you can mechanically manipulate things like I did in my video to make that scenario work. Bigger injectors plus bigger mass airflow sensor makes bigger range of airflow that my computer can manage. The downside is I'm going to be prone to detonation because I cannot modify my ignition map. That means I have to take lots of precautions like smaller plug gap and colder plugs and large intercooler. But there's more to it than that because if I'm measuring my air flow at the throttle body which is the smartest way to do it then I'm also measuring my air temp at the throttle body so my cooler are temps are only adding timing. It's a very tricky scenario to manage and if you don't do it right you're going to have cracked ring lands before you can even get a fun race in. This is why we keep the boost low and the octane high.
      Using a different cam profile changes the entire ve table and when you do that without being able to modify your ve table to match your cam you don't get very good results. Idle will never be correct because bigger cam profiles need more ignition timing and less fuel at idle, while in the mid-range you might actually do okay in the top-end you're going to measure a lot more airflow than the computer is programmed for which is going to subtract a lot of timing and probably won't fuel it correctly so you will actually be slower.
      Essentially what I'm getting at is that you really don't want to change cam profile unless you can tune it properly there is no "plug-and-play cam upgrade". The best you could do for a plug-and-play cam upgrade would be adding just a tiny bit of lift to get a little more air flow everywhere. Even that could cause lean conditions without a tune.

This setup is less prone to detonation as long as you can fuel it sufficiently. Use a wideband and try to get your afr's into the 11s under boost.
