  • Following the reveal of Assassin's Creed Mirage, I wanted to throw it back to the original Assassin's Creed game that started it all. While many view it as the beginning of the end for Ubisoft's reign as the dominant open world developer, it's still something worth appreciating when you separate it from all the noise. So let's hop in the animus and revisit some important memories within the original Assassin's Creed!

Yeah. I loved it. I also miss the conspiracy theory vibe the series had as well. 2 and Brotherhood had it especially, though I never liked how difficult some of the puzzles became. The story they told when you solved them was great though. The way it connected the AC story to historical events was awesome. That's pretty much completely gone now.

The first AC is so iconic. It had such a charm to it. I remember freaking out anytime I accidentally ran into one of the armored Templar knights. On a side note, I’ve been replaying all the older AC games lately. Just finished ACII last night. Replaying them reminded me how much I hated the mechanics and controls. There’s so many frustrating things in the pre Black Flag games. For the life of me I don’t get why people want it to go back to that. I’ve been a fan of the franchise since the first game I still feel that the new formula introduced in Origins was the best thing to happen to the franchise. Made the game a lot more fun in my opinion. I know Mirage is supposed to return to the old formula but hopefully it wont be as frustrating to play.

You can watch some guides online that'll help with the old "puppeteering" controls. The control scheme has a lot of depth as opposed to post AC3 being "hold 1 button for everything", I don't wanna be that guy but........ Skill issue.

@@pirahna0145 I don’t wanna be that guy either but… played every game as they were released and 100 percented them all, multiple times. Just because I enjoyed the games doesn’t mean I had to love the crappy mechanics and controls. But thanks for being like everyone else on the internet and assuming that just because someone doesn’t like an aspect of a game they must surely not be skilled enough to play it. I totally forgot that we’re all supposed to have the same opinion on everything.

And I will say from replaying this series from my child hood due to its multiplayer closing down, it said sept 1 for its multiplayer on brotherhood, revelations, and three, modivated me to grind out its trophies and play what I missed in my childhood. Even finishing and grinding out its story and extras to platinum these games and got its remasters of its games for the ps4, and attempting to continue what I never touched much as games kept continuing, I will def be keeping up with this series til they say their finished. There’s a brilliant bit of flavour text in the booklet for II, where Lucy asks that swimming be available to the ancestor and saying the lack of this was a bug in the Animus 1.0 model. Companies willing to throw some shade on themselves is always worth a chuckle. The contents of the booklet present a mystery to a new player reading on the trip home or before they can get to their console that they can figure out by starting the game, that it’s written by Rebecca with Lucy giving feedback and some of the notes sounding like feedback that would be given with some information being repetitive and pointing out unnecessary use of jargon acronyms.
In the game itself they use the fact this is a different animus mode to lampshade some of the lack of features in the last one, like subtitles.

14:54 man, these complaints were unfortunately what led to the modern day storyline being practically ditched or heavily diluted after 3 which is a shame because even though kid me hated the Desmond segments as much as anyone else, adult me's favorite part about the AC franchise was the modern day overarching story and conspiracy theories tied to it.

Recently i played AC Revelations for the first time. I remember playing the original (two and Brotherhood i also played. My favorite) when it first came out. I can't get into revelations at all because of how clunky it feels at points. I remember the first one being so simple and easy to understand and play. Then they tried to add so many things that just don't work and make everything feel like a weird mesh.

I was so happy when this was no longer ps3 exclusive. I bought it not long after I got a 360. Not the best but what an impression it made

I never played ac1. I even have a ps3, maybe it's time to try it....maybe on pc though, I'll have to research.

The original and Ezio trilogy, they were astounding for a reason, but admittedly they did not age well. I still miss the snappy mechanics, but the story and objective passing leaves a lot to be desired.

Assassin’s Creed II was actually the first M rated game I ever played. My brother outright bribed me with it during an intense match of the civilization board game.
I was determined to build a nuclear weapon while they all played their petty games. Come the last (guaranteed) turn and I’m determined to nuke someone. My brother was naturally target #1 but he wanted to live so badly that I got ownership of AC II from his desire to win. I lost the game but gained his copy of AC II in the process. All these years later and I still play and love that game endlessly

2007-2010 was such an exciting time for video games for me and not in small part to the Assassin's Creed series. I love those first few games. Everything after Brotherhood? Eh.

The fact that you never played brotherhood is INSANE!
When you mention Ubisoft being at its peak, then you dont have reference until you've played brotherhood. The assassins mechanic was one of the greatest and most fulfilling things in any game since people first discovered the "1-up" at 100 coins.
Play brotherhood and think about what you missed when Ubisoft was UBISOFT.

Funny thing is assassin creed 1 was repetitive just for full sync same style side mission over and over again but still fun don't understand why people don't like the new ones able to do perfect assassinations in the outpost.

I played Assassins creed on an annual basis from launch through Origins and am honestly just burnt out from the series and Ubisoft games in general. My absolute favorites were 2, black flag, and 3. If they made one that took place in a more modern period (like ww2) I would probably play it. The series now just feels like a typical generic open world game.
However, I will give Ubisoft credit in the fact that they can make the environments in their game very visually appealing. I didn’t care much for Origins, but they sure did make Ancient Egypt look beautiful.
