It’s still criminal to me, after all these years, how unknown these guys are. Casey is a genius on the level of classical composers and he deserves worldwide acclaim. Astonishing music
Feeling this heavy. Lost mine when I was young to cancer. Didn't get to have heavy conversations with him that I still need to have. This song provides slivers of what it may have been like.
When I first heard this song, I thought of my brother becoming a dad. And now I listen to it, after my dad has passed and it feels different. Both are hard.
They are the best! I've tried finding anything that gets me going like TDH but nothing so far and as the years pass I am convinced no one better or equal exists.
I think that they are one of the best bands with an accessible sound that nearly anyone should be able to appreciate. It's a shame that this band (or style of music for that matter) isn't well known in mainstream society.
I once told Casey that his music has gotten me through some really hard times in my life. And he said he doesn't like that. He doesn't want people to think that he did anything. He said that I got through it myself. And although I found some amount of inspiration to do so from his music, I had it in me all along. He said to remember next time I'm going through something that I had the strength to do it then and I'll have it when I need it. I really liked that. Casey really is the coolest guy ever.
this song is like a lullaby, its so beutiful. Act V is such a brilliant album, its one of my favorite albums I consider it to be just as good as such master pieces as "afterman: ascension+decension"
I recently finished listening all acts consecutively. At the very beginning we hear a melody that is also heard at the end. The last song in act 5 is titled "The Beginning" and it implies his child will go through very similar turmoils as he did, like a cycle. That's how I see it, anyway.
@@dizzydial8081 I think it is him going into an afterlife that is based upon the hangman tarot card since there is artwork for a sixth album that isn't just music. Hunter will have to let go of his past in order to become an oracle and make sure his son or light lives a decent life and learns from his father's mistakes.
@@dizzydial8081 I feel like Hunter basically killed himself so his child could have a better life and that he will listen to the oracles and can successfully fight Mr Usher
This song honestly shows you how much the lake amd the trees symbolise everything innocent in his life amd his child hook. Honestly such an over whelming song and so much meaning behind it
Such a beautiful song... I can't get over the harmonies. Sure would love to see The Dear Hunter here in Albuquerque sometime! Y'all have some passionate fans here in the southwest.
A friend just recommended I listen to Act V. This song stood out like a sore thumb. I had to send a link of this song to my father and tell him I love him.
Look into this band after I grabbed tickets for the new Coheed concert, which this band (I think) is opening for. I'm looking forward to seeing them live
Anyone else notice the similarity between the bridge here (I've been cruel to the ones who have stood by my side, etc.) and the Pimp and the Priest theme?
See I kind of thought that it could also be someone talking to the dear hunter/ the boy's (people have different names for the main character) son. maybe a mother
My initial thought was "is this Miss Teri to The Boy?" but that doesn't quite make sense with all the mentions of a father, considering. It sounds, to me, like The Boy's perspective towards a son, the father who's made mistakes/lost his head being himself, considering the events in Act IV. The whole vanity and pride thing seems fitting for him, and the fact he left The Lake and The Tree, something Miss Teri never did... in fact she did quite the opposite. Who could the mother be? A bastard child of Miss Leading's would be interesting... perhaps that's why he left, though the whole thing is reaching a bit. His brother's lover, maybe? Someone new? Or maybe he found Miss Leading again. Hmm...
+Chase Chandler I thought it was said that the boy was running like for mayor against the pimp/priest or something like that. He was already taken under his wing in act 2
The Boy's Father has always been an object of scorn and derision, so it seems most likely that The Boy is speaking to his own son. As for The Boy 2.0's mother, The Lover seems to be the most likely candidate. Ms. Leading didn't seem to be mentioned at all in Act IV (though I could've easily missed it) which I found strange, so my headcanon is that she died shortly before or after the end of Act II.
+AMaliciousMoose I hope Miss Leading returns in some way, Chekhov's Gun and all, but you very well could be right. Her role in the story could easily be over. Grr, Casey, tell us mooore!
During the night in the town, the boy finds Ms leading working as a bartender and starts an affair with her that continues through Act IV. I'm not sure what happens with her during the first half of Act V, but she dies in The Flame (Is Gone)
This is the last beacon I'm sending out, to anyone. My last S.O.S. Unless someone helps me see hope in a way that matters to me, 14 FEB 2020 will hopefully be my last day on this earth
Please!!!! I really really hope you're ok! . I've thought about suicide a lot of times and trust me, that puts an end to everything, EVERYTHING. But there are still things worth living for! even if it is just taking care of little things! I don't know if you are still here but I, from the bottom of my heart hope so. I've lost one of my best friends in this way and his last words said that he was alone, not knowing the ammount of people that sufffered his lost. Even people who didn't know him that well were really affected by his death.
The father died in act III, my theory is that the boy had a son and he wants to raise him the right way with out the mistakes the mother made. This is just with the songs lyrics, but it depends on the other songs in the album. The problem with this is that the boy was alone in the end of act IV being fully comitted to his work as a mayor and being confronted by the pimp/priest. Another idea I had is that the boy tries to make amends with his late father, and wants to do as the oracles said in the begining of the acts. (sorry if my english is bad)
The end of Act IV and the song titles of Act V suggest that The Boy is beyond saving, and might even die before Act VI, but anything's possible at this point! It's part of what makes the months before an Act's release so exciting.
+AMaliciousMoose Well, I think Gloria gives us hope that the Boy may be saved. The lyrics gives me an image that the Boy may be saved by a new character (Mr. Usher maybe?) or if you look at the story in a religious way like I do, maybe he has an experience with God and opens his heart. I think the Boy will continue living to Act VI, though I'm curious how he will die. Will it be in the process of destroying the Dime? Or will he find himself in a fate that you described?
It’s still criminal to me, after all these years, how unknown these guys are. Casey is a genius on the level of classical composers and he deserves worldwide acclaim. Astonishing music
Casey's vocal control is out of this world
Having lost my father to an overdose, this song, or the way I perceive it, brings both overwhelming sadness and an indescribable strength.
Cpt Oblvious I know what you mean , I hope everything is alright
Feeling this heavy. Lost mine when I was young to cancer. Didn't get to have heavy conversations with him that I still need to have. This song provides slivers of what it may have been like.
When I first heard this song, I thought of my brother becoming a dad. And now I listen to it, after my dad has passed and it feels different. Both are hard.
I'm seriously convinced that this band is the best band in the world. Incredible song, just like every other song by them :')
We all are man. We all are.
They are the best! I've tried finding anything that gets me going like TDH but nothing so far and as the years pass I am convinced no one better or equal exists.
You have seen nothing yet, boy. Believe my words, you will remember my name.
That name is way too long for anyone to remember
I think that they are one of the best bands with an accessible sound that nearly anyone should be able to appreciate. It's a shame that this band (or style of music for that matter) isn't well known in mainstream society.
The Dear Hunter has got me through the best and worst of times. Eternally grateful. My favorite band, no doubt, for years. Thank you
I once told Casey that his music has gotten me through some really hard times in my life. And he said he doesn't like that. He doesn't want people to think that he did anything. He said that I got through it myself. And although I found some amount of inspiration to do so from his music, I had it in me all along. +MegaDroogie1 He's so humble. What a great guy!
+MegaDroogie1 whoa, that's really it. What reflection. Thank you for sharing that. Peace
What an awesome story. Casey really is a man to be admired.
I'll never stop ranting on how awesome this band is, all their songs are beautiful. Man casey's voice is just beautiful
this was released 4 days prior my son was born. beatiful gift from my fav. band
Saw Casey performing this live back in May. Holy crap this song is just so intense and beautiful.
Can't wait for this album!
this song is like a lullaby, its so beutiful. Act V is such a brilliant album, its one of my favorite albums I consider it to be just as good as such master pieces as "afterman: ascension+decension"
Love these boys. They are my family but more importantly the greatest band in the world today.
I'm not crying you're crying
For your information there's an inflammation in my tear gland
I am most definitely crying
This one kind of reminds me of an addendum to "His Hands Matched His Tongue", where the boy comes to terms and makes peace with the choices he's made.
Always continuing to impress -- this will definitely be an album that will loop on repeat for a very long time.
Gorgeous... love Casey's fingerpicking on songs like this.
This song especially hits harder knowing what happens in the end.
I recently finished listening all acts consecutively. At the very beginning we hear a melody that is also heard at the end. The last song in act 5 is titled "The Beginning" and it implies his child will go through very similar turmoils as he did, like a cycle.

I'm actually crying, Such a beautiful piece
When you know what happens at the end and you start crying when you listen to this song again.
god damn this lived up to the live version of the song
I always get goosebumps when I listen to this song 🤚
This song honestly shows you how much the lake amd the trees symbolise everything innocent in his life amd his child hook. Honestly such an over whelming song and so much meaning behind it
Ten straight years of inspiring music. Thank you guys so much for being so consistently amazing
I like the Flame, Fire, Light connection.
Wow.. This is soooo relaxing and peaceful. I love it
Such a beautiful song... I can't get over the harmonies.
Sure would love to see The Dear Hunter here in Albuquerque sometime! Y'all have some passionate fans here in the southwest.
One of my favourite tracks off of act 5. so beautiful and its melody is so memorable
omg hi
A friend just recommended I listen to Act V. This song stood out like a sore thumb. I had to send a link of this song to my father and tell him I love him.
I literally just did the exact same thing... sent the link and told him I loved him. Great song.
Look into this band after I grabbed tickets for the new Coheed concert, which this band (I think) is opening for. I'm looking forward to seeing them live
Oh dude you're in for treat. I wish I could rediscover The Dear Hunter all over again..
They've never made a bad song, that's all I have to say.
Fuck me this brought me to tears I was not ready for this. I need this album right now
This song is so breathtaking.
i hear you from spain, mallorca. you are my great discover of this year. i love your music. hope to see you nearly than this tour dates.
I will get to sing this to my baby soon...as soon as I stop falling to pieces every time I try to sing it.

2:35 is a reprise of TP&P melody holy shit
This is beautiful.
2:57 on gets me choked up..damnit Casey...
Man, i love this song so much. I don't even have a dad, but still
Beautiful
This is better than the album version. I want this.

Damn. I haven't had goosebumps like this from a song in a while.
Oh man, I didn't expect these feels. amazing song.
I love this band so much!
Saved, The Thief, and now Light. This band is God!
this band is so good
I am in love with this song!
i want the tab for this as soon as humanly possible!!!
genius as always. id love to hear a mellow collab between him and devin townsend like the ghost album
1 billion thumbs up
I'm only just starting to really get into TDH and omg I already love them.
This would be a great background score for the show "This is Us".
PLEASE COME TO RECIFE PERNAMBUCO BRAZIL!!!!
a favorite from Act V.
He totally just reprised the main riff from Wait... I'm dying.
Anyone else notice the similarity between the bridge here (I've been cruel to the ones who have stood by my side, etc.) and the Pimp and the Priest theme?
The Mars Volta
Neurosis
King Crimson
Emperor
The Dear Hunter
love it guys! come to Mexico you have fans here!
*Sheds manly tears*
anybody have an tabs for this song?
So the boy has a son in ActV? I guess. I still wonder if good ol' Ms. Leading will ever show back up. Fuck my life.
This is so beautiful. Is this about Hunter’s child that he has with the Son’s wife?
I'm sad thinking after this there's only one album left :/
They end of the Acts, yes, but not the end of the band.
+Ben Smyth Hopefully not. Also we meet again.
Well, we know it's not. Casey says it right here: www.thedearhunter.com
And we meet again?
+Ben Smyth yeah ya ever gonna do that cover of gloria :P
+OneSmexyBuffalol Oh yeah, eventually haha! I'll probably do The Revival first, actually, since I already know how to play that.
oh my god, wait "bring you to bathe in the river" "wash out the world long before your heart withers away" is going to drown his son in the river?
Idk if the story of this song has been released yet but what if this is like a flashback of ms. Terri talking to the boy before she died.
See I kind of thought that it could also be someone talking to the dear hunter/ the boy's (people have different names for the main character) son. maybe a mother
Turns out its actually the boy(at this time the mayor) talking to his son
Amazing ♥♫
Comfy as fuck.
My initial thought was "is this Miss Teri to The Boy?" but that doesn't quite make sense with all the mentions of a father, considering. But what do I do with all these emotions?!
damn this is good
Is this the son of The Boy, or is this like a flashback of Ms. Terri talking to The Boy?
Sounds like a track from the color spectrum...maybe yellow? or blue?
Definitely Green, there's no doubt.
I would even say Violet, like Lillian.
+Bruce Wayne Nah, it's too bright. Probably Green or White
Ben Weyman Yes, but not as light as Things That Hide Away.
is that just cause the color green is in it a lot? :P

I like this better than Dust in the Wind
Dust in the wind from Kansas is also a beautiful song. This one also it is very hard to compare
this song kills me. i quit.
lol, "know that your father too has made mistakes" love the grammar
So the father makes amends?

Oh man - I guess Ms. Leading dies in childbirth, after all? ("Blood of the Rose" hints about it.)
Nope, she's still alive in Act V.
Phoenix Pagan
Yeah, I know that now! It seems like the Fiance gave birth to the Son / Light, instead.
Something like that, but I think Light is about a letter to The Boy's son and how he wants his son to remember him as a man.
:)
