As someone born in 1960 I was happy to hear you say that "things from the 60's aren't that old". I make junk journals but had not heard of Lap Books until I saw your Vid. Cant wait to get started on one. But first I need to watch the full playlist. You do a great job of being infomative and entertaining.
I like everything about this series. I hope when this is completed you will consider doing another one. This is so helpful to receive different ideas. Thank you Nik you always make my day .
Aww Nik thank you so much for your very kind words on my address💖. I am very honored you think about me this way, because I am thinking about you exactly same. Especially your forest book is breathtaking masterpiece! This book is so far another amazing masterpiece xx
I used to have a class in high school called Key Punch where we took those "computer" entry cards with information on them, entered them into the machine that sent the info to a computer that was the size of a small room, no lie. This was in 1976-77. Crazy right!! Now that I dated myself, lol, I am loving this series!! Thank you for sharing!!
I operated a mainframe in 1975-76: it did take up the whole room, with a console in the middle of the floor where the operator sat. It was kind of like the first series of Star Trek!
I am completely in LOVE with this lapbook. I've made lapbooks in the classroom numerous times but I never thought about taking it up to this level. This is my next project! Thank you Nik!!
LOL! I’m one of those who cringe when you cut and glue down the ledger paper. However, you are correct. Most of that stuff is not overly valuable, especially once torn out of the ledger. So you might as well use it. But heck, I have trouble using really pretty scrapbook paper too. Sigh. I will be one of those old lady hoarders on the tv show with a lot of cool stuff but no room to move in 20 years. 😫 😉
Always amazed at your creative flow, I would probably set for hours, if not days, trying to figure out what you do in half an hour and you keep thinking you're taking sooo long.....NO Way!! Love every minute!!
Nik, older paper gets brittle because it contains acid (due to the production process), to my knowledge, that is. The paper will become more brittle over time. Layering the old paper on top of some modern card board (acid and lignin free) may help. I totally agree to just because it is old it is valuable. It is valuable for creating something new out of it. Love your lap book. It is a beauty and a treasure.
I’m so ashamed .. I started binge watching this series and forgot to “like” the other 3! Yikes You don’t worry how long the segments are .. we will watch them! I’m so happy to have found your channel, and I’m busy going through your older videos. For the first time since starting this learning journey I’ve found someone who’s thought process I can follow! Your knowledge of book binding is inspirational! Thanks!
Groan...my dad worked for a bank in the 70's and brought home boxes of FORTRAN cards. We colored on them and used them for all kinds of crafts. Oh, to have a pile of them now would be heavenly.
Natalie Rice I know how you feel! My mum worked for a charity, one year she got the go ahead to use a local bank building that had recently closed down, we played with old paper, labels, inks etc etc all sorts of delicious things we found in aloft space and I didn’t realise what we had!!!!!!
I absolutely love this series! I can't wait for the next parts! This folder idea is awesome. A great add-in for any journal. You just go ahead and make 3-hour videos if you want too!! Great way to reuse old papers.
I'm by far bored! It is so relaxing, satisfying, and actually fascinating to listen and watch while you create! I should get out all my art supplies and start doing something...but not until I watch all these videos! (I put the "pro" in procrastination! )😋
Nik, I get it! I’m so ADD that when I’m in the crafting groove I’m a super hot mess! Let me say this and then I will explain: You , my mentor, are a creative genius, Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, A Mozart. In my opinion these are all leaders in their art. You have foresight that many others who make videos on RUclips in this genre can only copy, myself included. I have subscribed to your teachable classes and I continue to learn from your posts.
I can use my late husband’s BNSF paper work. He worked for BNSF which is Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and he has lot of papers left behind. What a great idea. I can make two lapbooks for my daughter and son in their dad’s memories. Thank you.
This series is fantastic! I've been outta the journal game for a bit learning to sew, but I'm jazzed now to do one of these! I think it could have been a course, too! But I bet even the squirrels are tired after this one! You're still the best out there!
Great demo / instructions! Length is never an issue. As youtube viewers we are in total control of how long we watch and how fast it goes. I would much rather have more detail and view of what's happening, not less.
I’m relishing this tutorial and loving all the tips and tricks you toss out as you’re creating!! I can’t wait for our move to our retirement home, and I can take the time for classes-right now I don’t have even a bit of space to create something!
Dude! This lapbook is more beautiful & inspiring with every video. I want to go tear into my chipboard, tyvek & scrapbooking pages STAT! I think I could make something mildly resembling your gorgeous creation. Thank you so much for sharing this. I love watching how you put things together & the different color palettes you choose. Off to see the extra Antiquarian videos. 😁💜👍🏻📚
When I was 18 I worked at Honeywell and I packed boxes and boxes of those computer cards everyday. They were updates and filled an entire pallet that I then had to push back to the shipping department. Good times...hugs from Arizona...;) (yeah I'm old...:))
Cheryl Pesuti Massie OMG, I just saw your comment. I just left one regarding the cards... I moved to Az when I was 12. I still regard it as home even though I haven’t lived there for over 20 years. I’ve been in New Zealand now for nearly 14 years.
Omg, those IBM punch cards... they are actually from the late 50’s & early 60’s my dad used to bring boxes of them home an we made Christmas wreaths from them, painted w/spray paint & glitter and sold them for 75 cents. My dad was the computer programmer for Alcoa Aluminum in CA. What a flashback.
I am so incredibly inspired by you and your inspiring projects. I love watching your videos i feel like I'm spending time with a friend 😊 I am saving to take start taking your workshops, I cant wait!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you❤❤❤❤
I’m absolutely loving this project and if time allows I’m going to recreate this, thank you so much for your talent and sharing. Yes I’ll credit you and yes I’ll share it with you if I work out how.
I was one of those people who keep every single sheet of old paper....since I discovered Junk journaling world, i love giving them a kind of second life....and sharing them with my friends (my very old music books ,old post cards from my own collection............. but you already know that Nik ^^) this nice and cool project is made for that .....and you teach us very well....so take all the time you want and need, without forgetting to eat!! And let's go for part 5 !!!! Have a nice day ..
I am loving this project. I want to give it a try but I’m not sure how patient I would be. I could watch all day. It’s just making it I want it done now. Lol
If Donna is back, you could get one of those really big packs of gummi bears and make a gummi bear-trail all the way to a cruise ship .. she would follow that trail .. and we could all go back to enjoying your Lap Book Galore 🤗
I love your series you got here. I just may have to tackle it. I won't be near as speedy as you are but it will be fun following along with you. Thanks for making it enjoyable and entertaining...hugs from Arizona...;)
Oh so many ideas to follow through on... You don't eat because you're creating videos, and I don't eat because I'm watching them! See you back with Part 5!
Love this, Nik! You continue to inspire me! Unfortunately, we're in a holding pattern at my house, waiting on a contractor to come raise havoc in my living and dining rooms, so I had to put away my crafting menagerie...sigh...I have the perfect book covers to make a project like this! Oh, well, something to look forward to, I guess🤔
Ledger paper and file folders are like gold dust here in the UK. Loving how this is working out, now go feed the squirle oh and maybe you should feed Donna 🥜🥗
I'm a new subscriber and new to junk journaling, etc. A bit overwhelmed! I was so intrigued with the computer punch cards regarding crime. I wish I had your eye for creating!
I really have to make one of these now! I'm actually on the hunt for just the right ledger Book(s) as I am Native American and want to create the ledger art from a century or two ago and put it in my indigenous journal. I love to use carpet tape for the spines... random comment 😂
I could watch your process forever also . I like how you talk through it ,and bring us along for the ride.
As someone born in 1960 I was happy to hear you say that "things from the 60's aren't that old". I make junk journals but had not heard of Lap Books until I saw your Vid. Oh Lol. Okay Donna! 🤣😂🤣 Chuckling as the hubs sleeps next too me. You never case to disappoint in inspiring and humoring. 😍

Nik-if I were a writer... Those tran card thingy's would make a great "Ray Bradbury" time-travel, Agatha Christi sorta kinda book?
I'm a new subscriber and new to junk journaling, etc. A bit overwhelmed! I was so intrigued with the computer punch cards regarding crime. I wish I had your eye for creating!
Your Lapbook will look realy beautyful Nic 😍
Thanks for sharing. I used to do payroll with punch cards.
So...today I learned that your husband feeds your addiction.
Good man!!! ❤
I really have to make one of these now! I'm actually on the hunt for just the right ledger Book(s) as I am Native American and want to create the ledger art from a century or two ago and put it in my indigenous journal. I love to use carpet tape for the spines... random comment 😂
