This is great! Are there any videos or helpful guidelines to help assist in determining ones correct seat angle, distance to handlebars, handlebar height as well as handlebar sweep? I feel there are soo many factors involved, that it would be awesome and incredibly helpful to have a step by step process to get ones bike correctly set up. Thanks for the video!
Hey, thanks for your comment! You're absolutely right-there are a lot of factors to consider when setting up your bike for comfort, and it's definitely something that deserves more attention. I'll be adding a video on how to properly adjust your seat angle, handlebar height, distance, and sweep to my to-do list. Stay tuned, I’ll make sure to cover it in detail! Thanks again for the suggestion! 😊

This really helped me out on my seat. I got it were I need it. When it comes to the handlebars whats the best way to know if its to high or too low ? Thanks.
Hi Rick, thanks for your comment. I'm pleased that you found our video helpful. The optimal handlebar height is a very personal matter as each of us is different and we all have different discomforts when riding. To find the correct height you need to try different handlebar positions. It's not as straight forward as with the sadle but I can promise you that it will work. Let us know how you got on.
Hi Scott, thanks for your comment and great that you found the first part of the video useful🙏. It's a pitty that the second part was not clear enough😔. What we are trying to emphasise in the video is that in comparsion to the correct saddle height the correct height for the handlebars is a very personal choice as there are so many factors such as type of bike being used, physical characteristics in human, types of riding (leisure, competitive, etc.) cycling with a kit such as rucksack or without. So even if you and me would be the same build, use the same bike and the correct seat height would be the same for both of us we might find different handlebar height being correct. So to summarise, the correct height for handlebars is what you find the most comfortable. I hope this makes sense to you and if the current position of your handlebars is not comfortable then keep changing it slightly and test it until you find the best position🙂.

@@cyclemaintenanceacademy Thanks to your video I now know I need to get that extension to raise the handlebar. Its still too low for me but all the spacers are maxed out! Thanks for your offer of advice no doubt I'll be back with more questions! ;D Greets from the Philippines!

@@cyclemaintenanceacademy Thank you! I'm back already with a question if thats okay! I will early next year be going away for a long time. Perhaps for a year. During that time I will need to store my new mountain bike safely. Any tips on very long term storage? This is a hot humid country so rust is the enemy. I plan on getting a stand to lift the bike off the floor. Should I wrap up the bike frame, coat the chain and cogs in oil then wrap them up as well? I'm concerned about the gear shifter, derailleur, chain, cogs, brakes, brake cables, tires etc. I'm very new to this and dont want to dismantle anything as I'd mess something up (haha!) I know the brake disks cannot be oiled but how to protect them from rust when the bikes going to be sitting idle for 12+ months? Thank you for any advice!! 🙂
@@CyberSystemOverload Hello again. Of course, it is. Wow, is this a work-related trip or you are simply planning to pack your backpack and discover the world? I can only imagine how humid it is in your country. If rust is a common problem there then the only solution is to find as dry a as possible place to store your bike. Maybe a friend's house? Don't lubricate your disc brakes, they may survive the rust but will be useless.
Hi Merlin, thanks for the lovely comment! I'm pleased that you found the video helpful, and I'm sure you've done an awesome job tackling your bike! Let me know how you got on, we'd love to hear about your biking triumphs! Happy biking!🙂
Wow, thank you for such a nice comment! I'm really glad that you found our video tutorial helpful. It's great to know that our explanation hit the mark for you. If you need any more help or have any other questions, get in touch🙂
this was a great video, I just got a new bike after about 23yrs of doing no excersise, so Im looking to start riding like I used to years ago, and I couldnt get the seat and bars at the right place, or even knew there was a correct height for the seat, now I do, so Off to make some adjustments 🙂
Hi Steven, thanks for the comment. I'm glad you liked the saddle part. Yes, it's tricky to explain that because in comparsion to the correct saddle height the correct height for the handlebars is a very personal choice and this is what we have tried to emphasise in our video. There are so many factors such as type of bike being used, physical characteristics, type of riding (leisure, competitive, etc.) cycling with a kit such as rucksack or without. So even if you and me would be the same build, use the same bike and the correct seat height would be the same for both of us we might find different handlebar height being correct. So to summarise, the correct height for handlebars equals the most comfortable height for you right at this moment (as when you get older your physical characteristics may change and you will need to change the height again to get rid of the discomfort). Let me know if waht I have written makes sense.
Nice clear video. I think that I am odd, in liking both a relatively upright flat bar position and a very low tribar position. Getting the saddle type, height and angle right for a comfortable ride in both these positions has been pretty much impossible!
Hi, thanks for your comment and for sharing your experience.🙏 Finding the right saddle type, height, and angle for both positions can indeed be a challenge and it might take you some experimenting and fine-tuning to achieve a comfortable setup for both riding styles. Keep testing and adjusting and let me know how you got on!

To adjust the seat height with less trial and error I’d recommend to measure the inside leg length 🦵 (search inside leg length measure with book) and then adjust the seat so until the length along the seat tube up to the lower (aligned) pedal matches your leg length.
You made it very clear about the seat, good to know, however how high should the handle bar be. Should it be higher than the seat or on the same level for the different bikes.
Hi Grace, thank you for your comment!🙏 I'm glad you found the video clear regarding the correct height for the bike seat. When it comes to handlebar height, it's a bit more complex as there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution like with the saddle height. The optimal handlebar height depends on several factors, including the type of bike, your riding style, and individual comfort preferences. For example, on a road bike, the handlebars are typically positioned lower than the saddle, promoting a more aerodynamic riding position. On the other hand, for a more upright riding position, such as on a cruiser or hybrid bike, the handlebars are generally set at or slightly above the level of the saddle. Furthermore, factors such as any existing back pains or discomfort should also be taken into account when determining the handlebar height. It's important to find a position that provides a comfortable riding experience and minimizes strain on your body. Try different handlebar heights to find what works best for you. You can make small adjustments and test them out on shorter rides to see how they affect your comfort and overall riding experience. If you have any specific concerns or additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.🙂
Hi, you're most welcome. I'm pleased that you found the video knowledgeable. I hope that after watching the video you are now enjoying more comfortable rides.🙂

Hi Hassan, unfortunately there isn't one correct setting for handlebar height. To find the right height, you will need to try different positions and see which one is the most comfortable. So keep trying and most importantly don't stop cycling.
Hi Jose, thanks for your comment🙏. What you see as an error I see as a perfect video footage to show what we are trying to emphasize. "Making the bike comfortable is a trial and error process so keep adjusting but above all keep riding". So pleased that you found the video instructive and useful😊
This was great video, Thank you for it. Might be a stupid question, but is it possible to turn the stem so that the handlebars are closer to the seat, so that the stem is pointing backwards?
Hi, thank you for your comment and I'm glad you liked the video. Regarding your question, it's not advisable to turn the stem the other way around. There are other ways to bring your handlebars closer to you. You can chekc my video here for guiadnce: ruclips.net/video/l8hyRKFPxWc/видео.htmlsi=sIG4ipAOMeTzDhKq
So I guess if I watched this video before I raised my handlebars with a longer stem I might have ordered the extension cables? Beautiful video I wish I seen a week ago lol.

Thank you for the simple version of how this all works. After setting the saddle height on my Mountain bike, the niggling subtle knee pain that I would sometimes get has now gone. However, my seat is now higher than my handlebars, even though all the included spacers sit below the stem. Therefore, the subtle knee pain has now been replaced with a lower neck, upper back tightness, and pinching kind of effect because the angle of my upper body has been reduced, relative to the ground, which places more strain on the rear neck/shoulder muscles to keep my head up and looking forward. What would be my options in this case? Riser handlebars, perhaps?
Hi, thanks for your comment. First check your stem. If it points down then you can flip it over. This will raise the handlebars slightly. If this is not enough then have a look at stem raiser or adjustable stem. We made a video on differnt options to raise your handlebars here: ruclips.net/video/l8hyRKFPxWc/видео.html I hope this helps
Hi, thanks for the commentand apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Yes, I have another video on raising or lowering handlebars here: ruclips.net/video/l8hyRKFPxWc/видео.htmlsi=Ps86_CyguNgQUJ5n
Can some educated soul give some advice, my seat is the right height and the bars feel very low, I’ve changed the stem to a 75mm +24 degree tilt. That helps, but I feel I could not go shorter or higher with the stem or spacers. My question is. Would a bike that has proper seat height but leaving me very far away from the bars indicate a frame that might be too small? Would a larger frame allow me to lower the seat height putting me closer to the bars? Even if the reach might be a bit longer.
Hi, and thanks for sharing your experience! Could you let us know what type of bike you're using? Also, is your saddle level with the handlebars, or is it positioned higher? Before deciding to switch to a larger frame, consider other options like a stem raiser or an adjustable stem, as these can help with reach and positioning. I hgave a video that can help here: ruclips.net/video/l8hyRKFPxWc/видео.htmlsi=t_ZSE5E2cZskj00R. Hope this helps🙂
Get the right position by trial and error?!🤔 That's basically a good advice, because nobody is the same, but bikes have standard settings. Thanks for this advice and for showing how to adjust the settings.👍🏻
Hi Ray, great to hear that your 90 year old bike is still up and running🙂💪. Those days things were made to last! Yes, when making this video we decided not to focus on a bikes that are older then us😂. So pleased that you liked the video

@@cyclemaintenanceacademy heightened the handlebars slightly to accommodate the rise in the seat after having neck ache, should ease now, thank you again.
So what is a comfortable position when we sit in the saddle, do our feet press on the lowest pedal, are the legs straight or slightly bent? Thank You.🙏🙏👍👍🇮🇩
Hi and thank you for your question! Ideally, when your feet are on the lowest pedal position, your legs should have a slight bend at the knees, rather than being completely straight. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions or need advice feel free to get in touch.🙂
Thanks Andrzej, pleased that you enjoyed the video🙂. We will be soon running with the Polish version of the channel if you are interested. Arek already started translating the videos. We should be launching it at the beginning of October😎

Thanks John for your comment. Hi, and thanks for your comment. That does sound frustrating-I hope you will eventually find that perfect adjustment. Let me know how it goes-hope you get a more comfortable ride!
Did I miss it, but I can't seem to see where it says what to look for when adjusting handle bars to get it right for the rider. Unlike with the seat height adjustment.
Hi John, thanks for your question. You didn't miss anything as there is no one solution for the correct handlebar height as it is with the seat. In our video we tried to explain that the correct handlebar height for you is the one that you find the most comfortable. You have to test different handlebar positions to find the one that suits you and is the most comfortable for your upper body. I hope this helps🙂
So, what handle bar height is correct? There are straight bars, drop bars, combinations bars. The handle bar segment is prettying confusing, for height or rider relationship. But, I understand how to loosen, raise and tighten.
Hi, and thanks for your question. Explaining this is a bit tricky because, unlike the precise saddle height, determining the correct height for handlebars is highly personal. Our video emphasizes this individual aspect. Various factors come into play, such as the type of bike, personal physical characteristics, the purpose of riding (leisure, competitive, etc.), and whether you're cycling with a kit like a rucksack or not. Even if two individuals share the same build, use the same bike, and have identical correct seat heights, their optimal handlebar heights might differ. In essence, the right handlebar height is what feels most comfortable for you at the moment. Keep in mind that as you age, your physical characteristics may change, requiring adjustments to maintain comfort. I hope this helps🙂
I learned to ride a bike very late in life. I will probably never be able to have the agility and balance that people who have ridden bikes since their childhood, have. I have read that for my height I should ride a bike that has 26 inch wheels. However, my legs are short. I need a bike with 24 inch wheels for me to get the best sense of balance. Also, some people may be a bit longer from butt to knee and some people may be longer from knee to foot or vice versa. A friend of mine who is in her 70s said that when used to ride a bike, she too felt most comfortable and in control riding a bike with 24 inch wheels though it may be advised that she ride one with 26 inch wheels. Furthermore, I have arthritis. Putting the seat higher makes it more painful on my hip. It is hard for me to mount and dismount a bike normally. Having a higher seat would mean that my hip would be stressed whenever I have to catch my balance and put my feet on the ground before I topple over and fall. Also, if were to heighten the seat on my bike I would be more in a bent over position which would be more painful for my back. It is surprising how people just see me riding my bike and tell me to raise the seat. One guy once shouted it out of a car.
Hi, thanks so much for sharing your experience with us and other viewers. I'm so pleased that you found the comfortable size bike and saddle height for you. Remember that al the advice you find is just a guidance. At the end of the day it's all about your comfort and confidence. It must be frustrating when people tell you to raise the saddle, most of them simply think they help, others, like this car driver just want to anoy you. Luckily you know the best what works for you. Take care and keep cycling🙂
Hi Steve, thanks for your comment. There's no rule about if and how much the saddle should be higher than handlebars that we know about. From what we know it depends on the style of bike and your personal comfort. Hope this helps🙂
Brilliant, thanks for your lovely comment🙏🙂. I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the video. If you need any more advice or have bike-related questions and can't find the answer on our channel feel free to get in touch. Happy cycling🙂
At one point you state with your heel touching the flat pedal you should have a straight leg then you go onto rotate the pedal 90 degrees meaning its higher in the air than when you just touched and you say you should be able to reach the pedal with your heel. WEll if you can reach it with the pedal flat I certainly think you should reach it with the pedal toward 90 to the up position ?
Hi and thanks for the comment. I've done this video a while ago so I had to watch it again and honestly I don't think it could be any clearer. I also couldn't find (watching it 3 times) where do I ask to rotate the pedal 90 degrees. I get it that you're trying to find the best height for your saddle and I'm here to help, but I struggle to answer your question because it's irrelevant to what I show in the video. f you have further questions or need additional guidance on determining the ideal saddle height for your specific needs, feel free to ask.🙂
Yes, it was a great utility bike. It's hard to appreciate things like that until we get rid of them. I hope that you find a bike one day that will be as comfortable as your original Raleigh 20 shopper. In the meantime you can adjust the one you have to be as comfortable as it can be🙂
Hi and thanks for your comment! There are different schools of thought when it comes to setting up saddle height on a bike. The method shown in our video is a commonly accepted approach that has been passed down through cycling knowledge and experience. Saying that, the heel test done at 5 o cock may work as well.
Hard to understand the point of seperate stem raisers, when you can use a different stem with a higher rise from a 7 degree angle upto 40 degree. If you don't have enough steerer tube height that's the more elegant, cheeper and better solution to lack of steerer tube height...

Great video. Great speaking voice too. Clear and to the point. Well done ❤

You gave a great indicator for saddle height with the flat foot mark…but zero marks for handlebar height
This was immensely helpful, and is one of the best how-to videos I've ever seen. Thank you!

Thank you!
I'm very new to this and dont want to dismantle anything as I'd mess something up (haha!)
I know the brake disks cannot be oiled but how to protect them from rust when the bikes going to be sitting idle for 12+ months?
Thank you for any advice!! 🙂
@@CyberSystemOverload Hello again. Of course, it is. Wow, is this a work-related trip or you are simply planning to pack your backpack and discover the world? I can only imagine how humid it is in your country. If rust is a common problem there then the only solution is to find as dry a as possible place to store your bike. Maybe a friend's house? Don't lubricate your disc brakes, they may survive the rust but will be useless.
Very helpful advise for adjusting new bike thx!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you found the advice helpful. Enjoy your ride, and feel free to reach out if you need more tips! 🚴♂️👍

this was a great video, I just got a new bike after about 23yrs of doing no excersise, so Im looking to start riding like I used to years ago, and I couldnt get the seat and bars at the right place, or even knew there was a correct height for the seat, now I do, so Off to make some adjustments 🙂
Thanks for you comment. Hope it helps, let us know how you got on😁
I didn't see where you explained how to determine the handle bar height.... the seat was excellent and I will check mine tomorrow.
Lovely vid, so easy and simple without any fuss 👍
Hi, thanks for the great feedback🙏. We're super pleased that you found the video useful.
I hope that you will find your bike more comfortable now.

Hey, thanks for the great comment. I'm pleased that the video was useful🙂
BRILLIANT! It wasn't clear about the spacers below AND above the stem!! Thank you!
Hi, you're welocme🙂. Glad it helped!
To adjust the seat height with less trial and error I’d recommend to measure the inside leg length 🦵 (search inside leg length measure with book) and then adjust the seat so until the length along the seat tube up to the lower (aligned) pedal matches your leg length.
Hi, and thanks for sharing your tip.🙂
4:40 it's important to torque the axis screw before tightening the handle bar screws

It would be better if they say what's the right height for the handle bars as they said for the saddle. Thanks anyways for the video.
Hi Hassan, unfortunately there isn't one correct setting for handlebar height. To find the right height, you will need to try different positions and see which one is the most comfortable. So keep trying and most importantly don't stop cycling.
After such thoroughly instructive video. You end it with a scene of someone riding with their saddle obviously set to low?
Hi Jose, thanks for your comment🙏. What you see as an error I see as a perfect video footage to show what we are trying to emphasize. "Making the bike comfortable is a trial and error process so keep adjusting but above all keep riding".

We made a video on differnt options to raise your handlebars here: ruclips.net/video/l8hyRKFPxWc/видео.html
I hope this helps
Use tt bars to distribute all gravity or yes increase stem height
Nice. Advise.. but i didnt see the handle bars go up or down....inhave a northpoint. Kent....... can i raise the bars

AWESOME. Very well explained. Thank you.
Thanks🙏. Glad you found it useful 🙂
Thanks, that was very helpful.
You're welcome. Great that you found it useful 🙂

Thank you Martin. I'm glad that you found the video useful and I hope you are cycling more comfortably now🙂
I learned to ride a bike very late in life.

I thought the heel test was done at 5’oclock position, not 6. which is it according to evidence ?
Hi and thanks for your comment! There are different schools of thought when it comes to setting up saddle height on a bike. The method shown in our video is a commonly accepted approach that has been passed down through cycling knowledge and experience. Saying that, the heel test done at 5 o cock may work as well.
Very well explained

Hard to understand the point of seperate stem raisers, when you can use a different stem with a higher rise from a 7 degree angle upto 40 degree.
