    Very nice! My favorite Warner Archive release I've gotten so far is Gun Crazy, but you have so many that I'd like to have. I just keep adding a few here and there when I see something on sale.

    Great selection! I love Warner Archive's collection. But they are overpriced IMO. BTW, I think "A Night at the Opera" should be with the "A's," not the "N's." LOL! Great stuff, Dave!

    Greetings Dave! Many thanks for sharing the extent of your Warner Archive collection to date. This is a highly impressive array of titles that cover many decades and every conceivable genre. There are many in your collection that I possess and quite a few that I do not so I am motivated to acquire the remainder. Here in Edmonton there is a a number of Sunrise Records stores that have Warner Archive titles. Additionally, it's often the case that I'm interested in a particular title and then discover it's a Warner Archive release after the fact. Regardless, congratulations on building up this branch of your library with this label. My own most recent viewing experience was the 1957 film, Paths Of Glory, directed by Stanley Kubrick and featuring Kirk Douglas, Ralph Meeker, and Adolphe Menjou. Famously banned in France for 20 years after its release for its realistic and unflattering depiction of the French high command during World War One, this is a riveting account. Interestingly, Douglas, who was also a producer of the film, insisted that Kubrick not change the ending and we are all the better for that intervention. The film is in equal parts an examination of the machinations of a corrupt military culture and a testament as to the utter futility of war. It is certainly one of the greatest films of all time. My latest film acquisition was 2004's Miracle, featuring Kurt Russell, Patricia Clarkson, and Nathan West. Thank you again for the entertaining video and have a great remainder of the weekend!

    I'm a Criterion superfan who's watched a number of those collection videos mind you and even there, I'm not sure my brain had gone numb with feelings of wanting nearly everything I've seen that I don't already have. I already knew this but this just reconfirms I love this line. Like the entire thing with very few exceptions. If ever something was my wheelhouse, it's Warner Archive Blus.

    Two essential Warner Archives for me were The Bad and the Beautiful and A Little Romance. One film deals with the facade of the Hollywood machine. Cynical, beautifully acted, and told with a cutting-edge story. Kirk Douglas is the ambitious producer with so much energy and concentration, but his downfall is just as compelling. A Little Romance never seems to get mentioned much these days, why, I'll never know. The film plays out with incredible depth and innocents, George Roy Hill delivers a magical tour de force of discovery and adventure across France. It's not for everyone. I wouldn't say it's sickly sweet, but Roy Hill did divert considerably with this film in 1979. Hill also went further with The World According to Garp a few years later. Two films that showed a significant change in thought from one of Hollywood's most successful directors back in the 1970s. Laurence Olivier was good in A Little Romance, and so was the wonderfully creative film score by Georges Delerue.

    They have released a lot of good titles. I’d like a bunch of those. I still shop online comparatively less, so my Warner Archive collection is small (and since I don’t separate by publisher I don’t even know how many).

    Have you had any problem with the Warner Archive blu-rays? My Sony blu-ray player doesn’t seem to like it very much. It has difficulty reading the disc when I pop it into the player. The disc plays fine but the player reads it like a computer disc with Chapter A, Chapter B, Chapter C… instead of showing the traditional menu screen.

    As a European, I am mad jealous of things like the Warner Archive collection, cause aside from a few select countries, you'll never be able to find classic movies and collections like these here in Europe. I actually have imported a couple of WA Blu-Rays, because thankfully they are region free (most of Criterion, for example, is region locked), and plan on making a second order soon, but of course with shipping and import costs, it's not the cheapest. Do you have any personal recommendations, be a good Archive release, and/or a film that you recommend watching?

    • @CinemaDaveMedia
      @CinemaDaveMedia  9 месяцев назад

      Honestly, I love all of these Warner Archive releases. I would pickup each release if funding was not an issue. Depends on what you enjoy watching, but I especially like The Gold Diggers of 1933, The Goodbye Girl (1977), Straight Time (1978), Streetcar Named Desire (1951), so many others.

    Hello Dave. I was wondering if you know if some Warner Archive DVDs are newly remastered editions, or if they are simply older remasters in new packaging? I’m referring to His Kind of Woman, Born to Kill, Lady in the Lake, etc. I think these discs are simply repackaged editions of the transfers that were released circa 2006 and are not upgrades.

      @@CinemaDaveMedia Thanks... I can't seem to find a definitive answer online. However, if they were remastered, I'm certain it would be noted on the DVD packaging, which they are not. Cheers!
