Cigar Tobacco: Curing and Fermentation

- This video will explain and illustrate the complex processes of curing and fermentation of dark tobacco (i.e., tobacco used for making premium cigars). Curing and Fermentation are critical aspects of the production of premium cigars. Curing removes moisture and chlorophyll from the leaves while at the same time fixing the sugars in the tobacco. Fermentation rids the tobacco of noxious chemicals like ammonia and develops the smooth, rich flavors that will be present in the finished cigar.
This video is a remastered version of an earlier upload. Much higher quality, some different media and higher resolution stills.
IMO
This is among the top presentations on this subject.
Great video! :-)

ha ha brilliant - I have smoked my whole life and I never knew any of this ! Great video.
Excellent presentation - thank you for that educating and entertaining trip through the tobacco producing process.
Fantastic informative videos, ive just purchased my first humidor and Romeo y Julieta cigars.
The first time i smoked, it was a cigar and i was so stupid. The next day i got a fever and headache. Was it worth it? Um... yesssss!! And it taste good too!
Would recommend
Incredible information here David!
I think the first white man to smoke tobacco was a Spanish Conquistador that was offered a long wooden pipe to smoke the tobacco. Little did we know that sweet lady tobacco would spread from the Americas, to all around the world. This video makes me want to smoke.
72°F = ~23°C
WOW!!! This was just amazing. Where can one get a tobacco seed. I want to teach myself just by one
Tobacco seeds are tricky to germinate. They are TINY and to germinate must be put on top of the soil and given a light cycle. I would recommend Sustainable Seeds Co. I have been growing their Connecticut Broadleaf.
Do they do the fermenting process for cigarettes as well? Wondering if they fermented just for cigars. Seems like a lot of work...
How is it that they have to HEAT the barns in tropical climates? I feel like it would constantly be above 75 degrees F!
Goes subzero during the nights sometimes, or at least below +10C
Nice video.
I also do the same technique in Indonesia
Yum this makes me drool
So how is your cigar/tobacco growing venture going? did you ever get a chance to build you own fermantation house and such?
I have a question on the filler for cigars.I have read that the filler is to be shredded not whole leaves.Just woundering if that it true.So when making a cigar is the filler tobacco shredded?
Yes. The filler is shredded into long thin strips
What song is playing in the backround?
Luke Garner Mueve La Cintura Mulata.
Great, Thanks!
good and technically informative video but one thing I missed about inside the barn temperature and relative humidity and their increase/decrease.
@docstogiefresh im 16 years old and would love to take up smoking cigars... the only thing is 1 it costs money which i dont have which is why i am watching your videos for an idea on how to grow and make cigars. but there is a problem i live in ontario canada and we only get maybe 3 months of really hot weather. any advice?
@docstogiefresh Question... Are the noxius chemicals added to tobacco plants, or are they naturally on tobacco?
CryZtalMovies the short answer is both to some extent...
