Great video. It still amazes me that after all the fish John Skinner has caught, he still gets amped when he hooks into a fish, and he curses the sky when he drops a fish like that was the first time that's happened. Funny and inspiring. I guess fishing never gets old.
It never gets old! That's what is so great about our sport of fishing! Whether its the first trout, schoolie, lm/sm bass of the season or the last hickory shad or salmon(if you're really lucky) of the fall or anything in between....They all put a smile on your face! Some more than others! ;)
Thank you again Mr. Skinner. I have followed your specifications. I got a Tsunami popper you recommend. The rod and reel, braided line, leader and hooks you recommend have greatly improved my fishing experience. I never knew I was walking past a prime fishing place. It was your knowledge that showed how to catch more fish . Thanks And try to enjoy the fall.
Hey Mystic What kind of rod were you using before? I have a 9” Penn Prevail and after viewing this video I don’t think I am getting the distance that JS is getting
Hi John, awsome videos. What Lamiglass rod are you using? I 've used my custom made Lamiglass rod for over 35 years now but I don't remember the blank # and would like to get a new one.
John whats up with the braid I have tried them all and the best one I have found is the fire wire is there a way to put it on the reel or is that all BS.
T Bar When you say “best” what do you mean? I use light 20 lb Sufix 832 braid. If you’re worried about wind knots then usually by upgrading your reel and thumbing your line as your lure approaches the water you can save your self some headaches also by manually closing your bail. JUST recently I switched over to spider wire and I have been very very impressed. Check it out!
I'm not sure if you've had similar experiences with these plugs, but for me they get smacked out of the water more than anything. For whatever reason, I feel like the fish are more aggressive on these plugs. Maybe the action is a little more dramatic? In any case, they sure as hell out-fish all my other pencils.
Hi Why did you preffer this 9' from your lamiglass line, instead of the 11' rod that covers the same lure weight range and action? I'm always consider 11' can cast farther that a 9' but you are the teacher or expert, I really want to know your explanation, thanks!
I think the 9-footer is a better fit for the smaller waters and calm ocean waters. I avoid going bigger/heavier than I need. This 9' has been a workhorse for me on the ocean and sound since the mid 90's for everything from 3/4-ounce plugs and bucktails to rigged eels. I'll use the 11 on the ocean for rough conditions.
I did some research @ 30 lb your line is .007 and power pro the line I use is .011. After watching your video I was amazed at the distance you were getting on your cast.
FireLine is not a braid, the strands are fused together instead of braided. It's thicker, but generally more trouble-free than braid. I use only braid for all of my fishing. You had a question about putting it on the reel. For a spinning reel lay the spool flat and wind it on.
love your video's but i have an issue when you load your plugs with trebles on middle and back..its brutal on released fish and should not be used....a single hook will more than suffice but more importantly the released fish with no treble in his eye, nose, face, etc is eliminated..conservation.

Funny thing is I found myself swearing at 14-inch bass after dark last night because I kept missing hits.

Love the innovation with the syrup! That’s a Buddy the Elf fishing lure for sure!!!!!
Lmao 😂
The water is gorgeous. Great fishing action John!
Rod is truly one of the best rods. Great job John on the creation of one of the best all around rods.
Thanks. I was stupid for not using the factory rod as soon as it came out last year. They did a great job.

Excellent! Thanks for passing that on.
Hey Mystic
What kind of rod were you using before? I have a 9” Penn Prevail and after viewing this video I don’t think I am getting the distance that JS is getting
High Fructose fishing..! Gotta love it.. Ooo.. Mrs Butterworth..
Now I need to make sure Mrs. Buttersworth is in my tackle box. Lol
Great work John! I use your tips all the time out on the water. Quality information!
John it’s ok to curse every once in a while when you miss a fish!!! Hahaha great video sir. You’re the best.
Love using those owner hooks
John you always bringing us the best updates and ticks thanks again for sharing hope you fish one of my lures one day. :)
Definitely works best in the morning
Good one John, thank you for sharing.
Great video John have you tried the new oceanborn pencils they make 3 sizes as well
But all 6 1/3in and different weights.
They look a lot like Tsunami Talkin Poppers.
Hey John, great video. Do you fill the plugs with lite or regular syrup. Lol
Tight lines
How the Hell can you give any of Johns vids a thumbs down!!!! WTF is wrong with with it. Keep’em coming Skinner. Tight lines from Maryland.
John Arguelles people drink lots of Hatorade - too many jealous, petty people....
Agreed
Is that the new John Skinner maple syrup sold at J&H tackle?.. I gotta get that!!.
the Syrup just makes it taste good.. bass like pancakes too...
I wonder whether the specific gravity of simple syrup would work as well. That caramel coloring seems wrong on a white plug.
Hi John, awsome videos. What Lamiglass rod are you using? I 've used my custom made Lamiglass rod for over 35 years now but I don't remember the blank # and would like to get a new one.
Sorry John! I missed the attachment links indicating your equipment.
Which brand do you recommend? Log cabin? Aunt Jemima? Karo? Can i use molasses instead? John u got me thinkin pancakes here..
A little hard to tell from the gopro perspective, what size class were those fish?

This is John’s pre Darkmatter days
Do you have neoprene booties on, or are you just chilling on the beach with tennis shoes on?
Just sneakers.
Coming up soon I live in upstate ny stripped bass will be up
No link to the maple syrup??
John whats up with the braid I have tried them all and the best one I have found is the fire wire is there a way to put it on the reel or is that all BS.
Do you mean fireline?

What type of syringe and where did you get it?
Does that imitate a flapjack herring?
Oh man where is that

No problem with that on the medium plug. it won't happen on the large because of the extra weight I load in.

Very smart, how many cc’s of syrup?
7
John I know you like using Penn reels, have you ever tested any surf rods from Penn?
I really like their inshore rods, but haven't tried their surf rods.
How do you feel about power pro?
Bad experiences a lot of years ago turned me off. It's probably fine now. A lot of people like it.
I did some research @ 30 lb your line is .007 and power pro the line I use is .011. After watching your video I was amazed at the distance you were getting on your cast.
John, where did you get the Owner stinger St-66 hooks from? J&H?
Yes, and I just put a link in the description.
Where can I buy this skinner syrup?
What do you use to plug the whole I can never seem to find the answer searching your videos
I used JB Weld on this one.
Fishing lure on heroine that's deadly! Get the epi.pen quick!
I’ll be buying mrs buttersworth stocks after seeing this lol
My wife thinks you should try honey? Great video, thanks!
Thumbs-freakin-up!!
Must be something sweet about those plugs they like
Sweetened lures ? That's cheating lmao good stuff
You the man
Vegetable glycerine is pretty dense too
I always thought that they to have a sweet tooth.....fish on
Hey John , you don't wear waders
I do. It was unseasonably warm.
John I highly recommend waders. Your shoes and feet must be beggin for help.
Sorry fire line yes
