“Eat the damn thing.... Prick” 🤣😂🤣
We’ve all been there ✌️
shorty ETM story of my life haha
Another great vid John, thank you for sharing
Hi John,we met fishing years ago on the jettys at a park in the Hamptons one rainy nite you gave me a fish you had cought and I never forgot, It wasn't until a 2years ago I saw a video of you and realized your the man from the jettys, I live in Florida now and I miss Montauk alot but I'll never forget the man who fed me and my family a few nites with your generous gift, thanks again and maybe someday we'll meet again
Don’t feel so bad John I fish for 30 hours versus 30 minutes on the Western End and can’t catch a Sea Robin to save my life
😂😂😅 That happens sometimes lol
😂😂😂😭😭🤣🤣
You goin for snappers?
Thank you mister Skinner for your informative videos. You seem to speak what is on every Fisherman's mind whenever you cast
Great video... when the fish get finicky like that, a lot of times I'll downsize to something a bit smaller... that'll get them to commit a lot of times... keep up the great work sir
Gotta love rocktober topwater fishing
I remember the switching the profile slightly after the blow up but no hook up in the Cordell pencil popper video from six years ago.
John you fish in the most peaceful places in your videos. I love it
Hell yeah!
Dude I cannot stop laughing at that offering chicken analogy 😂😂😂
Wow, that eel lures tale is amazing action.
John, so Red Top Sporting Goods has the exclusive rights for those Ron Arra Strike Pro lures. Considering they don’t have a website, I’m sure they’d be happy to ship you any lures in the line up, as they do carry the entire line.
My creek chub junior for years still super hot in the back when they splash on it I stall the lure and bamm fish on....
Fishing has been tough in general a lot of small fish around
Thank you. Trying to get into lures, as I feel it's more "sporty" than casting it out every 10 minutes. From what I understand, the technique is to go out when there are moderate waves, and get the lures behind the first wave where the water is foamy since that's where the baitfish are being swept around. This looks like it's not open ocean? Is it an inlet? The water looks eerily calm.
awesome fish, stripers can be picky sometimes lol
Where was the ladder to get you on that rock, that eel looks sweet.
Why does your rod cost $436?
John i was wondering if you have ever tried the Berkley EEls? i like the looks of the savage eels, i will pick some up.
I have had a larger version of that eel lure in the trunk of my car for maybe two years now, never gave it a fair shot... Guess what I'll be throwing tonight.
Hey John. What about slow rolling a Danny during that time frame ? Conditions looked superb for one.
Would not be able to reach them most of the time.
I'm curious...its hard to tell how far these casts are in this lens
Have you dunked your reel yet seen a video where a guy from NY is saying his took in water. I was thinking of getting the 4000 but waiting on more water reviews. WOW on the eel lure looks great those berkley gulp eels look good too.
Have not dunked.
Every time I look in the links below to see about the rod, it shows "link not here"..... guess I am just too late
The Savage Eel at around 25.00 delivered, can it withstand one hit from a medium bluefish?
Mr skinner im not a subscriber but i been following you from a far. i just want to thank you for your videos, very helpful.
Hey John, question for you. Do you need a permit to drive on the beaches in Montauk?
Yes. NYS on State property. East Hampton Town on their property. Suffolk County at Shagwong...
Where in the water column do you fish the savage Eel?
Great vid. The swirls behind the bait were very exciting.
My last 2 outtings I havent caught anything except a 1 bluegill out of the 20,000
why do you get rid of the belly hook?
The hooks on the savage eel are NOT very strong. Opened up on 30 inch striper. Landed the fish but just barely.
Hello John, I watched an earlier video of yours where you reveiwed the GSB81MS and you said it was similar to
to GSB Skinner only a foot shorter. Would recommend the GSB81MS for North Shore fishing over
the GSB Skinner or GSB91LS? As usual your content is great,
The 8' is fine for smaller applications. If you don't already have a 9, then I'd get the skinner rod because it's very versatile and will also serve you well on most ocean days and environments.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks!
Why did you choose a pencil over a spook for this situation? Was it for the casting distance
How do you remove the treble hook?
Thought I was the only fisherman that talked to the fish. I said some choice words once or twice while fishing. Thank you for the video. Only thing we catch up here are catfish / blue gill and bass. Come on up for the ice fishing season. You'd love it. Take care Spin
Hey John just curious..... for that 3 oz eel lure, how deep is the water you are casting that into? Was wondering if you have any specific retrieve methods for that considering you mentioned that it's rocky structure there
12 feet. I start the retrieve soon after it hits the water, and give frequent lifts.
Thanks John!
Hello mr. Skynyrd my name is Randall Todd I'm going to Jersey South Jersey in November what if you had any good suggestions of where to go only been there one time before
Randy Todd sp minnow
How's the Tsunami salt-x reel holding up?
Great so far.
What if you paused it instead of keep popping an reeling popping pencil lure?
That sometimes works.
Has anyone ever tried the hogs sand eels I have some of them and never tried them?
Do you have a leader tied on if so what diameter and breaking strain is it and what kind of knot have you tied it on to your lure clip? Fluoro? or mono?
3 feet 50# mono or fluoro, clinch on leader, palomar on braid.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thank you again John i really appreciate the help.
The eel lure looks just like a Culprit 10" worm in the water....Same action...
Why use swivels instead of line to line knots? Thanks.
More confidence in the strength of the connection.
Hi John. My name is Faisal living in Saudia Arabia and have read your books, which are really great work. I am now buying a new good rod and in a lot of rods to choose from and being living this far I cant hold and feel the individual rods and would need your kind guidance as to best rod recommendations for casting from 3/4 ounce to 3 - 4 Ounce range which are very sensitive rods and not just mere broom sticks. Thanks and very kind regards
What length? The 10-footer that I link to in the video description is what I like for a 10-footer. You can spend 1/4 of that and get a Tsunami Trophy II and still have a pretty good rod.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing many thanks for your kind reply and honest suggestions as always. May i take your kind guidance as a student of your extensive work, should i buy a 9 ft or 10 ft rod for 3/4 to 3 to 4 ounce range primarily for bucktailing as i have passion for this lure. My height is 5 ft and 7 and half inches and wonder if it has to do anything with size of rod for bucktailing. I am now thinking of buying odm genesis 9 or 10 foot options. Await your kind advises. Thanks and kind regards
Your height is no issue. I'd go with the 10 if you sometimes fish big surf, otherwise 9.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks and will order 9 ft one. Very kind regards and God may bless you. Thanks
Also curious...I'm in Wa state...are stripers roughly as strong as salmon p4p
I've caught many Kings on Lake Ontario, so I can make this comparison. They're close.
Thanks....that's what I was thinking
If you ever want to trade really good salmon fishing for a surf fishing for stripers I would love it
Do you recommend the saltx or van Staal vr 150 thanks
I don't own the VR and the SaltX has only been out a short time. I can't compare.
Get the VR. Mines been buried, dunked and abused. Still performs flawlessly.
"are you too good for your home?! "
How are you dealing with that reel? I mean it seems missing a important part 😂
Something called a bailess reel.
Excellent video, thanks ! BTW, if I had no fishing equipment at all, and wanted to do an evening of striper fishing, all the gear that you used, minus the cameras, would come to $1780. Not exactly a poor man’s sport, just saying.
Definitely do not have to spend nearly that much for a suitable striper outfit
You can get the walmart special and a few plugs to get yourself going but if you get seriously into surf fishing you most definitely will want to upgrade
When I was around 10 yrs old, I caught my first legal striper on a cane pole with one hook and a sardine. Yes, it can get very expensive. I often say to myself that lures are made to catch people more so than fish lol. But as you know, any master at his craft wants to feel and work with the finest tools they can afford. What one buys is only limited to the thickness of their wallet.
Great comment. I thought you were wrong for a bit, but then I remembered the Boga 260 and wading shoes. FWIW, most serious surf anglers that I know spend double the price of that reel. You can also spend half and still do fine.
Caught my biggest surf casting bass to date this season on the Savage Eel, 34.5# 💪🏼💪🏼
Nice! They make good stuff.
Hi John,
Great video. Quick question on the real, do you know if the handle can easily be switched to the other side for Lefties?
Thanks,
Welp ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, I clicked the link you've provided above and have answered my own question. Thanks for making these video's they are great. I always look forward to your content.
Hey John I just made a channel for fishing from your inspiration. Keep up your awesome work man!
BigMikesAdventures nice man
"Hit it you prick" I been saying that to the albies for 2 weeks straight!
I gave up talking to albies. They never listen.
Rod model please?
I linked to it in the video description.
6:11 What no minnow ? and you called me a prick !!!!!
LOL at your first 4 minutes. Why the knee pads?
Makes it easier to get up on a rock without tearing anything.
Hello John,
Is your 9 foot rod with 1 foot cut from butt section more like a 10 ft factory rod or a 9 ft?
Thank you
The performance is more like the 10. The best description is a shorter 10.
Its too early for stripers
How do I know we re good spots r to fish like this off sure how can I tell if it's a good spot or not I live in Delaware and just starting to get in to this type of fishing any suggestions or if you've been to delaware any spot suggestions any one all info helps need all the help I can get or if u live in delaware wouldn't mind pay a few buck to have u show me some good spots and techniques thanks guys and girls
When John fishes from shore, he favors rocky/boulder-strewn areas that he can cast into/around, where bass like to play hide n seek.
Yeah I have seen that problem is in delaware there is none of that just a couple inlet jettys other then that its flat sand or canals
