So glad you picked this one! Can’t wait to watch. ❤️👍👏🏻
Please check out Emerson, lake & palmer_ from the beginning of Yes
@@marybethrothwell8663he’ll love that bass line!
Black History Month called
They want you to check legend
Curtis Mayfield- Superfly( 73) 🔥
Title track from the groundbreaking soundtrack. Bowie would 💯 approve of this suggestion.
One thing to keep in mind with this song: it was Bowie's way of moving on from his previous personas as he moved into the future (hence the Major Tom references), as well as his drug problems. It's oddly autobiographical & introspective, while still being quirky & catchy. It was his way of trying to put his past to rest in a way that worked and was meaningful to him.
100%!!
The song is also a grower, and there’s an ear worm connection after a few listens.
No not as good as many Bowie singles, but a relevant one for him.
I thought the Major Tom reference was to what I thought was a failed mission by Britain to launch a man into space
@@PHLCoffeeSnob He uses Major Tom in a couple of ways. It’s a reference to Space Oddity and the character he inhabits in that song (a persona drifting further and further from humanity). It reveals the nature of that isolation: drug addiction (The sordid detail: Major Tom is a junkie.) And it also refers to drugs (I suspect Cocaine but possibly Heroin) as “Major Tom”, which your mother warned you about.
I didn’t know about any British space program to put a man on the moon, but that’s another possibility. Does this have anything to do with the incident in the Duchy of Grand Fenwick?
I’m obsessed with David Bowie. You can always reinvent yourself.
David Bowie was a artist who never stood still.
Even on the day the earth stood still, David Bowie was still running around drawing moustaches on people and arranging their fingers in rude gestures.
This song ushered in 80s new wave. Bowie influenced everyone.
And I think Gary Numan influenced Bowie for this song. The song "Cars" has that droning synth note after the verses. And Bowie uses one-note synth sounds in the chorus.
This is my favorite Bowie song. This shows his genius to me.
It was mine too, until Blackstar came along.
@@terrycunningham8118the RadioHead album that Bowie wrote. It’s so good and so unexpected.
Agreed
David Bowie continued to evolve his look and sound all through his career. he was an incredibly innovative and talented artist.R.I.P.
My heart just bleeds experiencing this song. His vulnerability is so moving. You can feel his struggle with Major Tom (aka his long-time addiction); his need for him and desperation trying to live without.
Favorite all time Bowie song❤
David Bowie was a trend setter.. a Legend
My mother said to get things done you better not mess with Major Tom.
Everything about Bowie was a long and ever changing journey. And the day he left... you actually felt the journey end. He left us a lot of great art in so many ways. 😢
I miss him so much 😢
I cried for days afterwards
Every LP is a different journey
That bass line is massive. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yeah.
Bowie was the ultimate chameleon, so many different personas and styles. Genius. Try my favourite "Heroes", especially live in Berlin.
What about "changes" or "China Girl" or the gem of "Absolute Begginers"?
@@southerncross86 they (and many others) are great songs but "Heroes" is my favourite.
Heroes (live in Berlin 2002) is well worth a listen. Brilliant song with Bowie having fun with the crowd and band. Even if no reaction, your ears will thank you.
Good call👍
He has.
Excellent performance!
Great choice
Life on Mars is my personal fav Bowie track can listen to it over and over, Amazing
being a bass player.. gotta be in my top five Bowie songs.
Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) is such an amazing album. You should check out his Heathen album, very underrated and imho one of the best. (Slow burn, Afraid, Slip away, Heathen (the rays) all amazing.)
Absolutely fair reaction. A lot of viewers sometimes forget they didn't vibe with every song on their 1st listen too.
That’s so true, some of my fav songs were ones I didn’t particularly like to begin with.
if you were ever an addict this song is so true to the feeling after getting clean
Masterpiece.
I'm happy, hope yer happy too.
Yes, please keep going with Bowie. Give Ziggy Stardust a listen!😊
Brilliant song by a brilliant artist who influenced so many artists.
One of Bowie’s Best ❤🔥
I think they were wanting you to get another piece of the Major Tom saga --- there are at least two more before you get to the final one in Blackstar --- but not yet -- you need to get more of his other themes too -- I would suggest Changes or Fame or Lets Dance -- he also has a studio version he did with Freddy Mercury called Under Pressure you might really enjoy
Let’s Dance also has a great video in my opinion
I believe he already reacted to Under Pressure
Yes, this is exactly why I requested his reaction. :)) I would love to see a Changes or Fame reaction as well!
Blackstar is literally the final nail. It's so brilliant. Also... dark and outright painful.
BOWIE DID SOME GREAT MUSIC! HE WAS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER ROCKERS FOR SURE!
this song is more about the head than the heart
I can't afford the coffee at present but I'll keep suggesting you check out David Bowie with Trent from NIN on "I'm afraid of Americans"
How much is the coffee/coffees ? I could never find out?
I've been waiting for someone to react to this song. At the time it was the most expensive music video ever made. There are some great live versions on youtube
Music video would have been a better choice for the first time.
I’ll be honest it took me many years to “get” David Bowie. Once I saw him in Labyrinth I was sold.
I’m glad you didn’t pretend to gush over it if it wasn’t your thing. For me this song was just OK. He’s done so much more that I liked better….
I love this song.
Moonage Daydream, StarMan off Bowie’s iconic Ziggy Stardust album definitely reactionary content especially given Mick Ronson lead guitar! ✌🏻
Ronson was Bowie’s equal on stage.
another fyre Bowie project
"Merry Christmas Mr Laurence"
one of his finest screen performances as an actor.
WELL WORTH A WATCH
That's an unnerving movie with an astounding part by Bowie. He really was an incredibly capable actor!
@@DavidMiller-dt8mx its often forgotten that he was so good as an actor..
"Labyrinth" was another excellent one
Try Life on Mars now! 😃
It was sad saying Farewell to Major Tom. 😏 It was hard saying goodbye to Ziggy Stardust also. The Thin White Duke was cool & so was the Jean Genie. 🥰 I adored them all! 🤩 Im forever a StarMan 🙄😒 even though Im a girl. "my mother said to get things done. You better not mess with Major Tom" 🤗 But he's so cute! #TeamBowie 😁🐰
Love the keyboard outro to this song.
I love this song, it’s one of my favorites of Bowie.
This is definitely a tune that will grow on you. Plus you are really missing out on the whole artistic experience to not see it in the video.
By the early 80s some artists were crafting the video as part of whole experience. Bowie was one of these folk.
He used cool club kids in this video and one of them was Boy George who became famous afterwards with Culture Club. The outfit worn by Boy George in the video was copied by Star Trek: The Next Generation for the outfit Q wears as a judge!
I think of this song as part of a trilogy of 80s songs that are sequels to Space Oddity along with Major Tom (Coming Home) by Peter Schilling and Why Me by Planet P Project, that is Tony Carey of Rainbow’s solo project.
I'm glad u still like it I am of the opinion it would grow on youI think the melody structure is unreal and the way it resolves back to the riff with the funk bass and the tape varispeed keyboard .....ther's a cool video as well ....I think it might be pre MTV
I felt that...Fame is more of a vibe FOR SURE. Always here to check out your YT posts
Bowie is/was legend for his work!! ❤
Always loved this tune, seriously creative. And love the different vocal textures. What a wide range of vocal stylings.
👍👍A great talent. 🖖❤
This song 'explains' Space Odity - by revealing that Major Tom was not on a "rocket ship to the the stars", but, rather, on a one way trip to isolation and degradation, due to "drug addiction". So many of the lines in that song make much more sense, when you understand this!
Definitely from my favorite era of Bowie. Spectacular
David Bowie is like an Chamaleon...... He would create himself new for every Album..... Some People think he comes really from Outer Space to bring us Music......
Its ok you didnt vibe out to it Polo. Bowie is a journey. Hoping you find your way into his catalog on revisits.
one of the craziest videos that was one of the first ones on mtv in the 80s- should have included it
It was actually filmed and released before MTV existed, but yes they did play it, and is also part of The Smithsonian Institute.
That bass line... Awesome! 😎🎸
Frick Bowie is so damn good
Station to Station from the album of the same name or the track Stay off that album as well. Jump They Say video is cool. Lazarus which he did right before he passed away also is a phenomenal video. Bowie has so many great songs it’s always difficult to pick. He also has different eras where his style and persona change.
I love 'up up the hill backwards' from sts
Check out Fame for sure. Funkiest Bowie track.
OR - Station to Station. It is a demented beast of a song with a loooong slow-groove vamp turning into a weird un-ballad, turning into a frenetic cocaine disco heart attack. It's nuts.
I remember having a earth/moon screen saver on my TV while playing this one night. It definitely created an atmosphere/mood for this song which has an experimental feel to it. Funny how certain songs you associate w your surroundings sometimes.
Now check out the live version from BBC Theater 2002. It is KILLER!
I've been waiting forever for a Bluray of this concert.
This is a lot of people's favorite Bowie song. It's not mine but I consider it another one of his masterpieces. Bowie songs are notorious for growing on you and often taking a little time before you really "get it." It's possible you might like this one more if you give it a few more listens or come back to it once you have some more Bowie under your belt!
Saw Bowie with my sis in Vancouver. Serious moonlight tour. Amazing show.😃
Yeah I saw him on that tour as well in Toronto at the CNE Labour Day weekend in 1983
@@user-qv2ur2bw3z Cool😎
You feel what you feel!
For those of us that grew up with Bowie, this was a really unexpected loop back to Alladin Sane and Major Tom
The all-time high's the all-time low.
Bowie’s music was ever evolving and is an acquired taste.
I discovered Bowie with this song in 81,so a very very special song for me.that song was)is like anything else .
This song is much better in conjunction with the video.
73-80 is a gold mine when it comes to Bowie. All kinds of ear candy
nice honest reaction... I have to say I agree. there's a lot of detail in this song that's interesting but... ehh, no need to go into the negatives. he has a huge catalog and all of it is innovative, up to and including literally his last days. a personal favorite of mine is Fashion, long version, with the insane Fripp guitar solos... gateway to King Crimson.
Bowie rules!❤
I keep watching the footage of Johnny Marr (The Smiths) playing How Soon Is Now on Fallon. Recommend.
Try giving one of these a listen. "Young Americans", "Rebel Rebel" or "Fame"
One of my favorites of his...Had all his albums and was lucky to see him for his 1st tour at Radio City Music Hall in his Ziggy and the Spiders from Mars phase, then Diamond Dogs tour, and Thin White Duke tours. Also got to meet him briefly after a concert . He was sitting with Susan Sarandon. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Bowie ...my faves in that order.
The live versions from The Reality Tour DVD or Glastonbury DVD are extraordinary, As is the one from the BBC sessions were it is literally requested by a little boy. One of Bowies best.
Loving the alien and absolute beginners are two great songs from Bowie in the eighties.
This one holds very found memories for me coming home after a night on the town with friends in the 80s and listening to my walkman lol late in bed .This sounded amazing back then on headphones .
Autobiographical - Bowie is Major Tom, at least in this song. Major Tom pops up in other Bowie songs, notably inferred in his Blackstar video as a dead astronaut whose be-jewelled skull becomes an object of worship by the aliens who found him. Quite an ending.
Totally agree as a huge Bowie fan. This one is way down my list. Check out "FAME", "MOONAGE DAYDREAM", " PANIC IN DETROIT", SUFFRAGETTE CITY" ...
I love this song ❤
Bowie was the only person I idolised as a teenager. Amazing talent for reinvention as well as music. ❤
If you ever get the chance watch the movie labyrinth which stars Bowie. Very out there but great movie
The complete cycle -
Space Oddity
Ashes to Ashes
Hallo Spaceboy (Pet Shop Boys remix)
Blackstar
"Instrumentation", or musical arrangement. Instrumental usually designates a song without Vocals, or a segment of a song, often referred to; as an instrumental break.
🎶🕊🎶
It's an "artistic" song, exotic layers and instruments with an avante gard intention, more than a hip song vibe
Such an ICONIC song! ✌️
KEEP DOING BOWIE
Check Bowie's "Stay"
Check out Bowies and David Gilmores Comfortably Numb... Just another instant classic...
I would recommend the song that really got me into Bowie - Fame. It's the only song that sounds like that. It's unique.
also check out Bowie's forays into funk and soul: Try cuts from Bowie's Young Americans album with Luther Vandross back-up singers and David Sanborn on saxophone, like Somebody Up There Likes Me, Win, Fascination, Right and Can You Hear Me. Also Carlos Alomar funk on Secret Life of Arabia (Heroes album). His Let’s Dance album produced by Chic’s Nile Rogers (and it’s all good!). From Station to Station album: Stay. Also Black Tie, White Noise with Al B. Sure.…Tonight with Tina Turner... A friend of the the Black community - complained to MTV about Black videos being relegated to early morning. Married to Somali super-model Iman.
Next, try It’s No Game Part 1. It’s a melody Bowie wrote as a teenager and then later adapted to more adult-themed lyrics.
Gotta see the video, it’s eerie!
David Bowie did music from several genres of music from the 1960's to 2016's when he released an album about a week before, passing quite seemlessly from one to the other... Try listening to David Bowie's Five years, from the album 'The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from mars'
I agree with your opinion. Way back its alright. Nowadays its nostalgic to me.
Steve Earl has a great song called Ashes to Ashes. You and your viewers should give it a listen. It's a badass tune.
Sound & Vision is the best song Bowie ever wrote…..so I think you should react to that 😁✌️
Check out Sorrow., Time will Crawl,China Girl
Ziggy Stardust
This is a tough one to like, it’s a very mysterious unorthodox song. I like it but it is not one of my favorite Bowie songs. It’s also a strange version of the song.
Oh wow only 2nd or 3rd Bowie...🤔mmm I s'pose it is.
Definitely FAME, YOUNG AMERICANS, DIAMOND DOGS 😎😉✌🏼
You shoukd check out Absolute Beginners, either the original video or thenlive version, incredibke he wrote for the 80s movie Absolute Beginners...another classic is Strangers When we Meet...his words and music are incredible unlike any other artist..
Check out "Wild Is the Wind". It's one of my favourite Bowie songs.
A few more listens will reveal the catchy melodies in this tune, there are many.
I would suggest the song 'Time', from Aladdin Sane, to hear one of Bowie's most beautiful tracks.
Keep grinding, I like your content.
I agree with you Polo. Doesn't move me. I had been thinking it may be connected to end of life when he was ill. I was wrong bec I read many comments below. RIP.
#DavidBowieGone too soon!
Hey Polo!! It was def worth the coffee to see your reaction! I’m so grateful for your honesty! I too am moved more by Space Oddity. Ashes to Ashes was just the next step along 1 thread of Bowie’s musical/artistic/personal evolution that I’m so happy you checked out! Thanks so much! 🩵 😊 I appreciate all of your reactions.
The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Station to Station, Scary Monsters Super Creeps - all excellent albums
