Its worth listening to the whole of Scary Monsters, especially the song "Teenage wildlife" he is beautifully scathing of the Blitz club and the new wave bands. And only in an endearing scabrous attack that Bowie could get away with it. Have a go with it fellas. Would love to hear your reaction. My favorite vocals of his also. Too many favorite songs to mention. That's a different thing.
Bowie is a musical GOD
Bowie and the New Romantics were like a feedback loop. He inspired them, then the Blitz Club happened, and Bowie reassimilated the zeitgeist. For me, this track is peak Bowie. It still gives me chills.
None of this stuff would have been made possible without David Bowie. He started breaking the mould in the late 1960s and remained relevant until his passing in 2016. Respect to The Master

I first really heard Bowie properly when I was seven. My brother, who was 16 at the time, got 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust' and played it over and over, I loved it so much, that he gave it to me. I played it non stop on my little record player. He became such a huge part of my life, he changed, I changed, but he was always there. I wasn't expecting to see him on this list, but I'm overjoyed, thanks guys.

The beach sequences were filmed at Pett Level, East Sussex on the south coast of England. I was 18 when this came out and already into Bowie having seen him live at Earls Court, London in 1978. The song and video were ground breaking. The song is very complex rhythmically and must have been very challenging to play live. As you say, Genius. P.s. love the Joe 90 outro - very Austin Powers!

A great choice again George and Alex. I have loved Bowie from the beginning and he was definitely a creator of genres with his music and style. Some of my favourite songs were his - Space Oddity, Life on Mars, Heroes, Jean Genie, Red Shoes, Rebel Rebel, Suffragette City, Fashion, Young Americans...so many more. I have most of his albums but Blackstar...man what an emotional ride that one is. I absolutely loved it when he was a guest of David Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall for the "Remember That Night" concert, where he sang Arnold Layne and the speaking part of Comfortably Numb. He virtually turned them into Bowie songs. A particularly poignant part was when he first walked on stage to a standing ovation and he said "Whoa, I hope I warrant that". He was that kind of man.

I was a teenager when this came out. Nothing else sounded like it. Nothing else ever has (though some have tried). I think it also really highlights how brilliant his voice was. Love this. Loved your reaction video.

But Bowies finest moment surly has to be his appearance in Ricky Gervais ‘Extra’s’ TV show, where he proceeded to compose a song about Gervais character in the programme….called ‘Little Fat Man’. Singing it aloud in front of everyone at a drinks party. It’s up there with some of the funniest TV moment! Check it out on RUclips.

Alex, I hope you got to see the Bowie exhibit at the V&A. It was absolutely incredible. Seeing his handwritten lyrics and notes, letters, costumes, art, photographs, *everything* spanning his lifetime all in one place was truly incredible. I’m so grateful I was able to go. He truly created genres of music that previously hadn’t existed before. How lucky are we that he shared it all with us?

The portamento synth kicks in at the 6:53 mark and is like this goosebump inducing line that continues to the fade… then the high pitch synths kick in and put the song to god tier at 7:21. Dunno if you guys could pick that in that first listen - it took me years to put it all together - but please believe me, that’s what puts this song into the absolute top tier of song history.

Talking heads and B'52s too were okay in punk'ish clubs. my punk'ish club had 1$ Black label beer. I must have heard this track a hundred times but the synth solo at the end still gives me goosebumps. I was lucky enough to see him at a BBC show recording just before he released Hunky Dory when he was relatively cult (Space Oddity had been and gone at this point).

In my estimation, as a long time listener of David Bowie, (1972) this album put him back on my map so to speak, as I came aboard with Ziggy Stardust (c1972), then his next release, Aladdin Sane, which I consider a masterpiece, just a smidge below the seminal Ziggy. next up after Aladdin Sane, was the 'cover' album 'Pinups', which his unique take on hit songs by English bands of the 60's. And finally Diamond Dogs, his bleak themed, originally intended theatrical production (sight and sound), which I consider his most underrated album. Pre-Ziggy, was Hunky Dory and The Man Who Sold The World- both worthwhile listens, especially Hunky Dory. His foray into soul and dance music, which launched him into orbit with unprecedented fame, began with the album Young Americans, and culminated with the '83 album release, "Let's Dance". My personal album rating of his canon? 1. Ziggy Stardust 2.Aladdin Sane 3. Diamond Dogs 4. Scary Monsters 5. Pinups 6. Hunky Dory

This is my favorite David Bowie song. Yes, he's genius with the concept of tying his addiction with his Major Tom character and this song being the continuation of his song Major Tom and the space age synths and funky bass production that blended New Wave and Funk.
I've always wondered what the significance of the two models by his sides in front of the tractor lowering and circling their arms to reach down and almost touch the ground. This move was also done in his Fashion music video. If anyone knows please let me know.

I did get to see him. Once in the mid-90's (when he was touring to promote his declaration that he would no longer perform his old catalog once the tour was over). And then again in support of his REALITY album.
Fortunately he reconsidered his "vintage" material and learned to embrace it.
The man, the icon, the genius, deserves all the praise he receives. I miss him to this day and will until my time comes. ✌
Now that you lot overseas and Alex, is my all-time favourite Bowie album and song. It's to me a perfect mix of pop and Bowie's art. And he really caught the Zeitgeist. Plus the album art looks pretty familiar for the Hazel O'Connor crowd.
