I'm 6'3 foot tall, I originally went to buy a Mitsubishi Triton. However the seat was so high the mirror and emergency break system completely obstructed half my view out to the left of the wind screen.
I was super bummed out for a few days but my friend suggested SsangYong.
I test drove a musso and was so happy with the room and feel.
I ended up buying a XLV, ultimate, luxury with the content load pack with gas struts. Im so happy with the purchase.
Now that I've saved money I can afford a 50mm body lift, mud tyres and a canopy with roof top tent.😊

I've had my XLV for a year now and can genuinely say it's been a treat. My use case was ecommerce owner with kids in car seats that didn't want a van or a wagon that I needed to remove seats to lug longer/wider items. This with a canopy did the trick. My wife was wary of it at first thinking it would be too noisy or "rough". The quiet in this car is true to the review. Compared to the others we drove, this one made her notice the silence. It's massive compared to the others on the market except the Gladiator (which isn't quiet at all), and the steering feel is as Paul says, sufficient feedback for city manoeuvring :) I had no issues adjusting from driving an Outback to driving this. The power train is the only letdown but I'm a family man in the suburbs who wants comfort, safety and practicality over the smirk and boner my exhaust note gives me (those days are long gone). Would buy another in a heartbeat.

I tested all the options then bought one. For what I do it's perfect and as a daily driver, not a bush basher it is a great ride and amazing value for money. I love the size / capacity of the tub and that there is no stupid sports bar getting in the way. Have done a few long (500+km) trips and I'm seriously impressed.

Pulled the trigger on a Musso Ultimate XLV Lux, why: rode better than its ilk on poor road surfaces, towing ability (not 3.5T wtf..) specifications, appointments, safety, and particularly the past owner experiences and owner forums of long term ownership. With Used 4WDs was looking at 6 year old vehicles with 80,000 km plus for similar money. Easy decision and they drive so nice. Seats are great, heated and cooled, steering feel light but reasonable feed back, punchy down low, transmission integration absolutely seamless, no wind noise, interior is SUV like and bigger than all peers, go figure. With upgraded suspension and a 50mm lift and underbody protection and a Unibody canopy: awesome touring rig. Did I mention how quiet they are lol.

    Very comprehensive review. But....
Incandescent tail lights is a GOOD thing, not a negative. If they fail it's a $20 part I can change myself. Many new vehicles are now spec'd with very expensive/complicated head & tail light units. Newer tech isn't always better Paul.
And... the fact the Musso has 4 wheel disc brakes (unlike a $65,000 competitor) makes it even better.

Had the Musso for 16 months (25 000km) now. Haven't had one problem so far (touch wood) except being bogged once. It's great on sand, not so good on mud, really do need AT's as Paul said. I've towed a 1.7 tonne boat, had half a meter of 20mm stones in the back and easy.
Towing was fantastic and the stones made it sit low in the back but no problems for it. I have changed the high beam old style halogen to led's and it's much better. Also changed all rear and interior globes to LED. Only thing that's happened is it comes up with a break light warning with the LED's. Have to see if they can fix that at the next service.
Things I've found a bit annoying. Sometimes if the parking sensors are dirty they go off for a second or two. The tailgate can be a pain when unloading rubbish at the tip. The gap between the tray and tailgate when open isn't very well thought out. Stuff gets stuck easily which you have to clean out before closing.
The 20mm stones in particular where a nightmare going into the gap, I could neither close or open the tailgate until I cleared the space so something to look out for. More tie down points in the rear would be better, four just isn't enough IMO. That's really all I can think of.
Otherwise it's been amazing and worth every cent. My wife loves it and we've driven from Melbourne to Brisbane and back in absolute comfort. Adaptive cruise control would be nice but I'll take a few trade off's for what you get for the price.

Considering how small Ssangyong is in terms of overall production it's amazing how good the quality of parts, switches, buttons, and materials - they also seem to keep making small upgrades across their cars - the latest version in terms of full digit-dash, bigger central screen, upgrades to the Rexton such as the gearbox etc. Even their latest facelifts have been very well executed - the designs are great as are the materials. Given their challenges around investors - this sort of thing is really comforting for an investor to see - they aren't cutting corners and seem to have a good grip on what really matters when it comes to the designs, the engineering and maintaining quality. Fingers crossed they finally get their finances sorted out this year with an investor who will invest for the long term.

I'm picking mine up this week , I have a Holden Colorado 2011 . When i bought it the handling was crap and i thought the suspension was to . But when i replaced the tyres it was a whole new car . When people test drive a car the tyres have a lot to do with it 300.000km , I had a good run . Time for a new one , I chose the musso due to short wheel base so I can park it in an Australian car space 5.1m , still 200mm longer that my RC Colorado and 50NM more power . The Ultimate has more features than most others and no timing belt to worry about . 7year warranty . I would say get them while there still at a good price . I drove Musso’s for many years while working in S.Korea and they are great. Outside of S.Korea in the SE Asia market i am in, there aren’t dealerships. They are really distributors, they sell the vehicle and good luck at any parts, fixes, warranties etc, you are on your own. Too bad because SsangYong makes a quality vehicle.

I just ordered my grand musso (to Hungary,Europe) and I found it weird that the model Im getting has 9,2 inches infotainment and led foglights compared to this one in the video. Normally aussie market seems to be ahead of the european in case of east asian models except for this one? Or this one might be a different trim? (Mine will be premium plus) any thoughts on that?

I bought one about a year ago.
Have done trips to Sydney Canberra from Melbourne and back. Used only 51 letters of fuel for 640 KMs.
Have done about 17000 KMs so far. No issues. I do use it for my tandem trailer but not everyday.
I think it's very good value for money you pay.

Air locker or e-locker? Eaton/Harrop don't make air activated diff lockers, and the spin before locking is consistent with how e-lockers behave. I'd agree with the need for a switch to activate the locker - waiting for a wheel to spin before activating a locker isn't exactly mechanically sympathetic, and if I was in a situation where I needed the diff to be locked, I wouldn't really want it disengaging unexpectedly either.

Love the new Musso and Rexton. Having owned a Musso previously and a 2015 SR5 Hilux I can honestly advise you that you are far better off buying this top spec Musso over a top spec Toyota SR5. There is really not much benefit going the Toyota, just that BS tradie badge nonsense.
The smart money is buying the Musso, investing the $30k odd savings in their mortgage or quality shares and watch the Musso pay for itself over time vs the Hilux tax costing you a small fortune.
Great cars these ssangyong musso/rexton. Certainly worth it.

I am on my second Ssangyong Musso in twenty three years and the only thing I dislike is in all that time they still only put a lap belt in the middle rear seat.
They are well built and in over twenty years hard working service only replaced tyre's and wiper blades and had no major problems.
If you look on the drivers side of the backrest of the rear seat you will find the release lever to fold it down, they must change the spec on models you get and the ones we get in England the luxury model called Rhino here the extras you pay for is standard here we don't have sunroofs until recently sidesteps came as standard on the top two models all colours except metallic are standard.

Your main criticism of the Musso at the end of this video is regarding towing capacity, yet you don't even try to tow with the Musso. I've only used mine to tow a furniture trailer but it worked excellently and lots of other Musso owners report towing large caravans with ease. I think you've missed an opportunity to give a lived experience review and hope you consider towing with a Musso to provide more informed feedback to your viewers

In all fairness, who tries to tow 3T+ in this category of vehicle anyway? You'd be stupid. They are undersized for 3T+.
You must be towing a hell of a holiday setup for it to weigh 3T+, by then surely one would be able to afford an American 1500-series pick-up or if you towing an excavator/bobcat well you'd be in a 70-series LC or a 5T Isuzu Truck and not a measly dual cab ute.

If I was in the market for this category again I would give the SsangYong a decent look. (Badge snobs will hate it tho)

Nobody mentions much that this has the highest GVCM of all the dual cab utes. 6.37T for ELX XLV.
My ELX XLV has only got about 5,000kms on the clock. Towing a huge caravan, about 3T currently no worries, just bought a raising tow hitch. Great to drive so far, and has a massive rear tub. The length is not a problem, glad I went with the XLV. I think I'll increase the height in a year or so.
I think I'll upgrade the ELX speakers, the sound system isn't great on the base model, but the cloth seats are super comfortable.
