I entered Tokyo station from a train via Narita and spent half an hour trying to reach outside, I had a anxiety attack, broke down in tears, the works, left and never went back my entire 3 week stay😅

It’s interesting to me that you consider speaking in front of the camera your weaker point as opposed to filming/editing. I’ve always thought you have a way with speaking and you always appear very natural and relaxed. I really enjoy your personality and genuiness ( definitely not a word) not awkward forced hype and scripted sounding talking, like how many daily vloggers tend to sound. Sort of like that video you did parodying that. Also random addition, I’ve been watching for over a year and I just booked my first solo trip to stay in Aomori this spring for my 22nd birthday! Thank you for giving me inspiration and excitement to give it a try despite my fears! :)

You're a better presenter than you think, Chris. It's one of the many reasons I watch your channel - a funny, friendly style, with lot's of self-deprecation and irony. Keep up the fantastic work.
You've got no reason to be self-conscious (except the human need in all of us.) You're a charismatic, hilariously witty guy and what you've done to create this channel is genuinely impressive. Not many people get to live the kind of life you do and - from what we see of you in front of the camera - it seems like you more than deserve to have it! Best of luck, love your videos, keep it up!
My husband and I are watching you regularly!we love you! Your editing, humor and videos are amazing!we are planning to live in Japan as well!Right now we are in Singapore!maybe one day you make it here for a video:D 😍😍🙌🍬 would happy to guide you :)))
After watching your videos and following your channel for a while I now thought to myself why am I even watching your videos... I just started watching a few videos and kept going without thinking about the content really. I think the main reason I watch your videos is because you're entertaining and you seem like a nice guy. You don't have to force yourself to be enthusiastic about things, just be yourself. Cheers. Hopefully you see my comment.
Chris mate, I just want to say, I've been wanting to be an English teacher in Japan for about 3 years now. I'm currently 16 and when I'm around 18 I would love to visit Japan, and just like you probably was, I'm just a normal British boy going about my day to day life. Sometimes I don't really think it's possible for me to be where you are now, and I just give up on learning Japanese, but when I watch your videos, it genuinely inspires me, and I appreciate it. So I just want to say cheers for the videos and I hope I can be where you are one day :) (I'm also left handed)
There is just one thing I never quite understand: His videos are clearly well devised, edited into a product which is not only compact, objective and balanced but also extremely fresh, smooth and with wonderful chosen moments of comedy that never feel forced or unecessary. Just look at that introduction for a moment, feel how the music feets the way how the sad milk dropping spoon seats in front of our eyes, being the object of focus, before he moves it down in despair and finally eats it. His content is full of consciously designed ideas, of care for quality and detail, a consistent interest in adding layers of entertainment that most of us do not even catch, but greatly influence the product. What am I trying to say with all this? Why was I "angry" on the first place? I simply cannot follow his view when he says that he is actually not good at anything. I have seen him refering to this at least two times in some other videos, and I could guess that he is still amazed by his amount of success, but camon.... I have not seen such refined videos on youtube for....maybe as long as I have been watching youtube. So yeh, screw you Chris for not knowing how great your channel is, and if you are reading this, and still have the doubts upon your qualities, I hope to have left some idea of why people enjoy this so much. To all, a wonderful whatever you are having.
Your comment came out a lil aggressive, but I agree with the essence - Chris is a very talented and skillful author, narrator and editor. And his personality shines through all this.
Chris should've featured on RUclips Rewind. So many videos of his got to trending, and the North Korean missile vid made it to international news! But of course he doesn't make low effort comedy vids with half naked chicks on Insta, nor is he a blonde teen, so how could he be on Rewind.
Heyo Chris! After consuming dozens of videos on your channel, I just wanted to thank you sincerely for the inspiration I got from you. I'm beginning my A-Levels now and after that I plan to do a gap year in Japan, do my studies back in Germany and then I'll probably work as a teacher in Japan. Thanks to you, I'll be well prepared. ありがとう!
Your English seems almost perfect there are definitely some mistakes but the words are spelled perfectly you just missing some words the words you missed is person after Japanese your before studying and the end was so close but you messed up Japanese for Japanese it should have Japanese is fun not Japan is fun
I love the fact that he is being humble and acting like how any other person would, in this luxury hotel, talking about how expensive the stuff is, not bragging about it, feeling awkward.. makes it so much more of a genuine experience to be had from his viewpoint. He is not being a pretentious jerk like most other bloggers. But i cant forgive you drinking coffee over tea.. such a disgrace
Dude, you're awesome, you're hilarious, you have such a good sense of humor, there's nothing to be self conscious about! Though I totally understand it - I'd be self conscious too - but you're legitimately awesome and funny. So don't worry too much about it! Loved the vid, and can't wait to see more.
Great comment, I agree entirely. His being self-conscious shows he understands the big picture, he's not some robot. He thinks things through and is conscientious towards others.
The majority of the British public think in a similar manner. We never really like to think of ourselves as funny or awesome, as it is seen as a bad thing. People don't like to big themselves up
You're hilarious, relatable, and interesting! That's why you have so many viewers and subscribers! I can only imagine how self-conscious you feel with that many people watching your videos, but you keep being authentically yourself which is naturally funny! You're relatable by showing us your personal quirks, not trying to make yourself look perfect, and showing that you make mistakes like we all do. Also, for us who are interested in Japan, your videos are informative. It's awesome you got an award and were on TV! Please feel comfortable being yourself, Chris! 🙂
To be fair, a lot of canadian culture is centered around food. Especially in Québec (ie Poutine, chicken gravy sandwiches). The other aspects imo are more subtle. And maple syrup is seriously important to Canada, see maple syrup heist😂 So yeah, it was a funny/somewhat accurate joke. Plus being stereotyped as people enthusiastically pouring maple syrup over everything is rather positive😅🤷 Okay I'm overthinking this, i'm gonna go now😂
This was hilarious ... "We have a situation. Look at my t-shirt, how wrinkled it is. I can't go on a TV show with like three million people watching with a t-shirt that looks like that." "Yeah, that's RUclipsr, that's the life of a RUclipsr. It just tells what it is, it tells the reality of how you live." "But I'm better than this." "But I don't know that."

Yeah! But it is sadly a common occurrence. Just have a look at Amazon or eBay and search for old clocks ... 99% of them have IIII instead of IV! It is SO annoying! There are even old companies that make really expensive clocks that have IIII instead of IV on them. It really pisses me off everytime I see it xD
Don't be so self conscious man....I am 27 and gave up my career to take care of my elderly parents. You can't imagine how much I would love to be in your shoes....you are making a difference in your own way.......Life inherently sucks, no matter what. But you are doing good with what you can. Thank you for your videos
I wouldn't say life *only* "inherently sucks"; there's inherent good in it, too. That aside, good on you, man. Too many people shit on others who sacrifice what they want to do to take care of others. Hope things aren't too rough for you and that you're managing well enough.
Ok maybe that was a little too dark. Lol . I just meant that life throws things at you to make you feel bad. It's up to you to find a way to deal with it. Appreciate the kind words.
In the place where I live, taking care of our own elderly parents is a great honor, man. Think about it, your parent always taking care of us when we are a little child..... And what child is pretty much just crying, pee, poop, and eating their parents salary. When they are older why not return some love for them...
It's true that the trains run a very tight schedule. And that people are, for lack of a better word, pretty anal about it. You may have heard about a deadly train crash 15 years ago at Amagasaki? Allegedly the driver had been reprimanded earlier for overshooting a platform where he was supposed to stop. Some accounts even claim he had to endure a sort of 're-education' camp. The investigators suspect he was running late, and was so afraid of suffering consequences like that again, he took a curve way too fast and derailed the train as a result. Not sure if they since changed their policies, but you can see train personnel very visibly implement many safety rules and habits while they're working nowadays.
zJoriz I’ve always heard that because they are always perfectly on time, that people arrange their commute around it. Not sure about how it actually is though lol.
I have to admit, I'm really guilty of saying "sick" instead of "cool" >.< Bad habit I picked up while living in California. Loved this format for your above average day in your life heh. Also, didn't know you were left-handed! My wife and best friend are both left-handed as well. Totally funny seeing you and Ryotaro going through Yurakucho under the tracks, I used to shoot a ton of pics there. Grats on the award! Get your revenge on that Iron later! - Victor
Might be an area thing. For example, back in the late 90's, "the bomb" and "hella" were predominately Norcal things. Being a Socal native, we used sick quite a lot. I've been gone for the past 6 years in Japan, so who knows what is used now. For example, I recently learned that "in a minute" is slang now, which means something like "in a long time". Please correct me if I am mistaken though :) - Victor
Yeah "hella" is more used in Norcal. I feel like the use of the word "dope" has become more popular than it used to be. And yeah some people will say like "its been a minute since I did this"
I finally got to travel to Japan recently, and I really enjoyed my two weeks a lot! I have thought about teaching English in Japan, but sadly it would be a big paycut from what I currently make. That said, I love Kyoto and Tokyo. Even Nagoya was a cool city. The bullet, and train system in general was incredible. I like how quiet it is on the trains to how a few seconds late is considered late.

I spent like an hour+ trying to find a locker for my suitcase going back and forth in the maze of hallways. I got lost several times and it was scorching hot. I remember feeling pretty uneasy at the end.

According to RUclips comments, it seems like every country except Japan has terrible train service, lmao
@@lordmuhehe4605 it checks out... here in Taiwan the high speed rail is great but normal rail is shit... the reason for this is cause the government hired Japan to make the HSR lmao
@@lordmuhehe4605 Deutsche Bahn is just another cup of tea, man.
You think Germany is bad? My sister had a school trip and she had to take the train back home with her class. Her train had a problem and the next train back home was the next afternoon so her group of ✨*50* 8 year olds✨ and ✨*6*✨ teachers where stranded at a random UK train station. They had to take a 7 hour bus journey instead of a 1 hour train. Great job UK train lines. If you where wondering they arrived back at midnight, the only good part being is that they got a Burger King on the way.
PS: I’m sorry if this came across as passive aggressive uwu

You've got no reason to be self-conscious (except the human need in all of us.)
You're a charismatic, hilariously witty guy and what you've done to create this channel is genuinely impressive.
Not many people get to live the kind of life you do and - from what we see of you in front of the camera - it seems like you more than deserve to have it!
Best of luck, love your videos, keep it up!

It's fine, if no one is around, which actually can happen if you travel past rush hours
I like how winning an award for a rather tangential reason is considered a 'slightly above average day' in Chris' estimations.
So you heard the J alert go off indicating a possible north korean air strike, went back to sleep and they decided to give you an award for it?!
Pretty much. It's not really that he did something special, it's that foreign media picked up the video.
Well, they say there is no such thing as bad publicity. :D
@@tatianaabramovskaya8765 Of course I am being ironic, hope you got that as well 😉
I love the sort of cheap 80s background music you play for scenes with the trains it feels strangely nostalgic even though I’m a product of the 90s
You should look into Synthwave
Chris should've featured on RUclips Rewind. So many videos of his got to trending, and the North Korean missile vid made it to international news!
But of course he doesn't make low effort comedy vids with half naked chicks on Insta, nor is he a blonde teen, so how could he be on Rewind.
this.
rewind doesn't mean shit, tbf it seems more people dislike it than those who do lmao
I think I'm too old to physically give a shit about the rewind but is this actually something that matters to people?
He is not a blonde teen? No half naked chicks? What a plot twist considering he appears in his videos for so long I never noticed. Thanks mate ;-).
Heyo Chris!
After consuming dozens of videos on your channel, I just wanted to thank you sincerely for the inspiration I got from you.
I'm beginning my A-Levels now and after that I plan to do a gap year in Japan, do my studies back in Germany and then I'll probably work as a teacher in Japan.

People don't like to big themselves up
Did anyone else tune in to see Chris sit around and eat biscuits all day and was utterly disappointed?

I envy you Chris.......I had envisioned myself living a life in Japan just like yours but never got to do it. Time and family caught up with me
You're hilarious, relatable, and interesting!
"Yeeeeeeeeeea! Canadian culture!"
I snorted at that. It shouldn't be particularly funny being Canadian, but I love your dry-wit.
To be fair, a lot of canadian culture is centered around food. Especially in Québec (ie Poutine, chicken gravy sandwiches). The other aspects imo are more subtle. And maple syrup is seriously important to Canada, see maple syrup heist😂
So yeah, it was a funny/somewhat accurate joke. Plus being stereotyped as people enthusiastically pouring maple syrup over everything is rather positive😅🤷
Okay I'm overthinking this, i'm gonna go now😂
This was hilarious ...
"We have a situation. Look at my t-shirt, how wrinkled it is. I can't go on a TV show with like three million people watching with a t-shirt that looks like that."

Woo! Lefty power! But don't the Japanese have a superstition about using your left hand for chopsticks? I vaguely recall hearing about that once.
Discovered your channel a week ago, put videos in oldest first setting. You sir are a gem. ❤️
Congratulations on the award and you did a great job of accepting it 👍 We wouldn't have noticed the mouth thing you did either if you hadn't pointed it out to us! 🤣 Really, really enjoy your content. Rewatching before bed these older Abroad in Japan videos feels is so funny and relaxing. They bring me to another plaice I can’t access before a hard week at work ❤
The IIII, instead of IV, on the clock there gave me the shivers

Chris the important thing is not that your not losing weight its that your not slowly gaining weight like you were so in a way the diet is working
the way you say "J-alert" it sounds like you're saying "Jailer" :D
OKAY BUT THE ENTRANCE YOU MADE ON STAGE, after walking through the door, THE LITTLE WAVE, WAS SOOOO ADORABLE DUDE 😂😭 I COULDN'T OH MY GOODNESS😭😂😂😂
Good lad
Enjoyed this edit (17:25) where the sound of the door closing made it seem like you just donked Ryotaro in the head with the camera. :)
I didn't notice the mouth thing until you pointed it out. Stage-fright dry mouth is the worst!
Yeah, the door transition was pretty clever.
I actually lost my shit when you were telling about this country wide desaster and it was a train that left 20 sec early.
Those bullet train speeds are no joke.. obviously if timing is mismatched there could be a disaster
Whistling "stand by me" . Love it. I like your style.
This feels like a mini documentary. Excellent editing and brilliant narration. Bravo, Chris
- Victor
As a Californian. I can vouch and say no one ever says that anymore. Thankfully.
only people who are hella cool say sick
Not true, many people still say it
Might be an area thing.
