HOA is like Frankenstein. It's a monster they created ! The problem now is how to get rid of it.
It's like being married to an abusive spouse. Initially, it has all the promises of a wonderful life and protection, but later on, the real monster appears.
I’m disabled and cannot look and see who’s at my front door when the doorbell is rung. I also have everything I need delivered which includes perishable food and medications. I installed a Ring doorbell and it has been my saving grace. You’ll never guess what happened. Yep, my HOA is suing me. They say that the doorbell is an invasion of privacy for my neighbors because I live in a condo. Not only is it not an invasion of privacy, all my neighbors are women and love the security the Ring provides. And get this…… I was warned that a letter from the HOA’s attorneys would be delivered certified mail. Well, the mailman came but I didn’t know who it was because I had to disable my Ring so I didn’t answer the door. Heehee. Because I didn’t answer the door, the letter went back to the post office where I am suppose to retrieve it. I am physically unable to go to the post office and do this. I cannot send a neighbor because it has to be my signature. And so it sits….and it will keep sitting until one of the geniuses has a brain fart. The fact that I am disabled has been completely and utterly lost on these idiots. I can’t WAIT to get before a judge.

We need a national effort to outlaw and disband Home Owners Associations!

Doesn't this man pay the HOA fees that cover HOA attorney fees if the HOA needs one? Therefore, he was given a bill for something he already paid for??? There's a lot thar doesn't make sense here. I am for the man doing something good for others...bringing happiness to others, promoting literacy, kindness, ect...
You can't do what you want in your own yard. What purpose is the HOA? They are petty. They should not want to charge you for your filing. You have paid the attorney when you paid your hoa fees!

Unfortunately, the majority of neighborhoods are HOA communities. It's getting harder to find a house not in a HOA community in suburbs. I abhor tyrannical HOA. They are dirty gangsters.
Why do people buy homes in HOA communities.

Because more and more developers and builders are requiring then so the banks will lend them the money they need to develop property
@@gobulldawgs9410But HOA's are not LL. They're privately contracted. If a majority disagrees with them then terminate them. If it's complicated because of banks then absolutely don't get involved. Buy down where there is no HOA and fix.
@debrapaulino918 Debra I could go on forever why banks are requiring them, and totally with you on hoa's, I just recently got out of a horrible one. And it's getting harder not to buy hoa...at least in colorado, anytime a non hoa comes up for sale some private investing group snaps it up before private buyers have a chance to bid.

Why is there an HOA??
People move into subdivisions and these places have rules and regulations that you have to follow in order for property values to stay up. When you move there you sign agreements to follow these. If not, there are penalties.
@@crystalscheider4575 hi Crystal, I know what an HOA is, but I don't think they should have them. I know that I rather not have an HOA. The board then becomes cliquish, and if they don't like you they'll let it be known.
You have way more going on than a tiny library. Moldy Sidewalks, house trim, dead lawn!! You should not be living in an HOA hood. They will bankrupt you in fines!

That's why I don't buy property that has HOA.
Agree but they're becoming more difficult to find. Poorer neighborhoods don't have them. Then you can have other problems. I think better to keep these HOA's accountable. 1. Accounting. Who is in charge. 2. Where do fines go. 3. No transparency no job. 4. Rules by consensus of home homeowners not HOA. Since these neighbors all enjoyed his gesture it is their decision not HOA. They pay for it so it is their prerogative. If homeowners let themselves get pushed over then maybe they need an assertive training course. This is ridiculous including the disabled individual over the ring camera.
A HOA is not a LL. Their contract can be terminated.

A lot of nicer neighborhoods have decided to go HOA after COVID. Crazy as hell! Also, it keeps certain people out.
They're newer neighborhoods is why. I say screw'm. When you rent there's all kinds of rules. When you buy and want a purple door it's your choice. Who wants snooty neighbors that don't want a neighbor with a purple door or non approved color of siding? or a front lawn meadow instead of grass? You buy a home to make it yours.
When we were looking for our house I refused to even look at any house in an HOA. People on those boards are usually not very bright and are always on power trips with inflated egos.
HOAs need to be state regulated and taxed heavily for all dues collected probably like 75 percent
I dont have an HOA per- se. But the city does have "covenants" in my development. One day my dogs alerted to a presence. I quietly investigated and discovered a code enforcement representative peeking over my side yard fence. I treated this person as I would any trespassing peeping tom. And invited him to leave my property willingly or be carried out on a stretcher. My point was enforced by the pistol in my hand. That was 22 years ago and they havent been back.
What a shame. Too much with these HOA's.

These HOAs are a scourge. Why anyone would buy in location subject to one is a good question. Land of the free my butt.

In *most* cases, HOAs are well worth their value because they maintain the Integrity and home value within the community by forcing people to take care of their properties. If homeowners don't want to do that, then they shouldn't buy in an HOA community. From the video, I think the HOA may have been more upset with the Owner here because you can clearly see he hasn't maintained his yard or pressure cleaned his driveway and sidewalk like his neighbors have. Maybe the HOA decided to punish him for that by citing the bookcase. I'm just presenting another logical point of view, so please don't hate me! 🙄😉
