My friend lives in a neighborhood with a HOA and apparently his neighbor was told to take down the ramp he put by the front door steps, which he needs because he is in a wheelchair.
Update: friend’s neighbor gets to keep the ramp :)
That's sick.
Violation of the ADA, HOA will lose.
What the heck? What is wrong with those people??
@Black Buick so silly
that's fcked up
never ever understand why someone moves to an HOA controlled area.
Did the homeowner receive a copy of the covenants, conditions and restrictions (CC&Rs)?
People move into a HOA neighborhood because they expect to be the ones telling other people what they can do with their property.
Because they don't want to live next to someone who raises chickens and parks a 40 foot RV on their quarter-acre lot. HOAs are a double-edged sword.
Me either. Over 35 years of living on my OWN acreage and my own control of THAT acreage. Other than local laws, of course.
@@lauribricker9439 they all do...but the HOA is asking her to put her family (and even the lives of others) on the line. That is not enforceable.
When I hear HOA I imagine someone’s bored nosy mom telling a neighborhood how to live. I would never want to live somewhere with an HOA.
I have lived in a few HOA's and most of them are old people who like to have control over things.
It's more older retirees or semi-retired people. For certain though, it's people who enjoy being able to push other people around and tell them what to do. Sadly, the opposite type just never tries to get on HOA boards so it's a self-fulfilling prophecy sort of thing.
And that's exactly what they are
You spend so much money on your home only to be told by someone else how to live in it. YAY AMERICA home of the free!
ken and Karen. lol
I used to work for a company that handled billing for multiple HOAs and I saw how crazy they were. They would fine you for the smallest things and could send you into foreclosure. They had more say on the homes than the actual homeowners.
So the hoa lives happily ever after in their home after foreclosing your home huh
It’s state law it doesn’t matter what the home association says it’s state law you need a safety fence around your pool it’s also required by her insurance they have no argument against us
The HOA is rules require the fence be Iron not plastic (depending on interpretation of Privacy Fence clause),
as the was explained by the 3 options: Remove it, Replace it with Iron, or Sue.
If the law makes option 1 Remove it invalid, then replace it with iron or sue. They should sue, sounds like they should win re "Privacy Fence" not pool
Its a stupid law.. its your own fuken house, at your own fuken risk!! Land of the free right? Why arent you free to have a fuken pool with out safety at your own house...?
Its not like its a god dam public place 🤦🏽♂️
@@isailopez4132 HOAs see a house as a public space. Other wise you could do whatever you want. It exists to tell a home owner their design ideas are outside the accepted norm. They are the fashion police for houses.
@@rwbimbie5854 According to the story the HOA makes no mention about pool safety fences, just property fences. And Texas law states that leaves it up to the owner about the type of pool fence they want to install.

In many municipalities HOA dues and fines take precedent over local taxes. Let that sink in for a minute!
My first home had an HOA. Lived there for 8 years. After all the hassle decided to sell and move out when they declined my deck design. I just said screw these people. I now live in a single home residential area. Can do as I please to my backyard. Never been happier.
Did you get a permit for that?
Yay!! same here had many problems with my HOA about 6 months after i moved into my house but my house caught fire and burned unsure how it caught fire😜😜 collected the insurance $$ and moved😂😂
Your design sucks, idiot that's why it was declined.
The HOA is clearly after this family for some reason we don't know about.
their color?
Being Indian?
@@vondahe I don't know if she is an Indian but may in wrong neighbourhood
RACE
Absolutely , doesn't mean its color like Most are saying . Could be another dispute, like values, morals, etc.
One reason why I'll never live in a HOA area. Paying extra money, just to be told how to live in the home I pay a mortgage & property taxes, GTF out of here with that BS!!!
Why does TX allow pools without fencing around them? Who is responsible if a neighbor kid drowns?
That news agency went all out with flying a helicopter for this segment.
Haha I was just thinking that...like dang they really flew over to see 😂🤣
First comment I saw without the word HOA in it
Drone.
campkira I think a helicopter is more likely than a drone. As with a drone people would be likely to harass the operator then a helicopter hovering in the sky. Although a drone would be more cost effective.
It's a drone...
Just a thought. It was mentioned one of the homeowners choices to comply was to pay for a more expensive pool fence. Wonder if that fence company throws a kickback to the HOA or may even be blood/family related thus another way of self benefit to the HOA or board member? The whole things smells very fishy.
Possibly. It's nearly always some personal motivation like profit or ego of some individual on the HOA.
No, a fence around the yard is what the HOA wanted "because it was a corner lot".
@veronica carlson my comment was suggesting there may be a connection between this HOA specifically & a fencing company. As in unethical practices. I am not suggesting all HOA's do this. Considering the homeowners mortgage/insurance liability requirements, it is clear THIS HOA is ignoring this detail, this is just 1 red flag in THIS situation.
They should build a ugly af fence with night time flood lights and disco balls
Eddington Millagillo that was possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever read
Why would anybody move into a place with a homeowners association?
Just say no to hoa's.
Rule # 1. Never buy a house in an HOA controlled division
Rule # 2. See rule 1 if undecided
@veronica carlson who gf cares about the property value? Most people buy a house and never leave
When buying a house, just know, HOA='s RUN!!! Huge no no, it's literally an idea of being micro managed while you live, and work.
Insurance company: "You must have a pool fence."
HOA: "By no means can you EVER have a POOL FENCE ON A CORNER LOT REEEEE"
Also HOA: "But these other lots with pool fences are fine tho"
This is what happens when you move to a ritzy neighbourhood like that lol ppl life in a fantasy world and have nothing better to do in life but complain about petty things lol
Hard not to wonder what the race is of the families with the other pool fences.
fences are required by law let alone insurance companies
Not to mention the news team found another corner lot house with the same type of fence.
My guess is the HOA had a recommended fencing company that they secretly were getting kickbacks from. And got angry when these people didn’t use them
Mental cases… you give a human the smallest amount of power and 99 percent of them will go wild.
My HOA in TX tried to fine me for getting a roof repair via insurance claim. They made me apply for for permission to get the repair after the fact. I sold the home, then bought another house in a very nice non-HOA neighborhood.
You had to get permission to fix your roof? What??? Omg.
Sue the HOA. They can’t change their minds that fast. Idgaf about how your subdivision “looks”. I care about my children LIVING!
When I purchased my house, was specifically told I legally had to have a fence there as long as I had a pool because I'd be liable if neighborhood children wandered into my yard and drowned somehow. Crazy that they would be so opposed to that...Plus it's a nice looking fence, not something trashy.
Omg most cities require a fence around your pool. These HOA's have to go. Why just her fence and not the other corner lot. Sounds like to me that this hoa doesn't like this family
one more reason not to live in a HOA community
The NAZI's know as HOA's
Well most aren’t like this soooo...
@@Fan-sl6de I've only ever encountered a single HOA community I didnt hate and that was only because the community voted not to renew and the HOA and its lease is set to expire in a few more years then dissolve and turn public. other than that, they've all been pretty awful.
bordone sorry that has happened to u but they aren’t all the same
I would like to have an HOA whose rules are guided by reason and moderation, not greed for making house values go up quickly. Better still, an HOA that encourages ugly things to keep taxes down. Loll. 😝
The local law governing pool safety supersedes the HOA's stupid rules, especially since other neighbours have the exact same fencing and the original HOA rules contract they had signed had no mention of the pool fence at all!
Texas State Law *requires* a pool fence and much more around a swimming pool. Not to mention, if someone in my family was seriously injured, or worse, because of this crap, I wouldn't wait for the police or a lawsuit. I would take them out personally.
Wow lots of others have that fence! Someone had it out for her.
It’s obvious why they are going at her! She is brown, not white! I guarantee that all those other people who have the same pool fences are white! I would sue their racist a$$ for discrimination! All the other homeowners should have to take their fences down too! She has children it’s for their protection and other children in the neighborhood! Pools draw children, there are so many drownings every year! Plus she is required to have one for insurance coverage! There is nothing wrong with that fence, it suits its purpose! It’s in her damn backyard, not on the front lawn! Those nosey bastards need to get a life!
They obviously have something against her. They want her to move.
@@armyvetgrl2731sadly that's what I was wondering too.
Probably an over weight caucasian women with diabeties.
Yeah they're racist. HOAs almost always are and its disgusting. They should be illegal.
wrong "fence" HOA, if it was a "property" fence they may have something but this is a "pool" fence
(?Road train at train station platform?)
Most counties/towns have laws that require a fence around a pool. The HOA does NOT and CANNOT over rule laws
c3pfett This is pretty much what I understand the hierarchy of regulations to be
No brainer: sue the HOA
I wouldn’t want to live in a neighborhood with HOA. Telling me what I can and can’t do with my property.
Not to mention you'd be paying for that privilege.
The problem is almost all subdivisions have HOAs.
And so here we are five years later. What was the resolution? Anyone know?
I live in an HOA development. I feel her pain. It's a mini gestapo.
Why did you choose to live in a HOA neighborhood?.
@@derekkelley6616 Divorce, sold house, split profits. Had primary custody of son. This condo association was near his school and was able to keep my son near his friends in a familiar neighborhood. Yes, it sucks but one does what is important for the child.
