We FINALLY move from 2d metroidvania plataformer games to 3d action from ps1
It's so exciting, I guess we have full on gamecube/ps2 style games from indies too
Finally!
Without tank controls!
No kidding, 2D metroidvania games got old…fast
I made the same comment on another one of these retro PSX/N64 game trailers! 😂
Indie devs are just as bandwagony as AAA companies.
June 2024 but it looks like it came out in June 1997. I love it.
If that's the case, then imagine if this were an ACTUAL PSX game that somehow got re-released on future consoles as part of the PS1 Classics series. Or, imagine discovering this as a playable demo from an issue of Official US PlayStation Magazine?
That’s my head canon or I’m just looking at it as being the next new wave bring on the PSX indie games I want more of them!
I thought it looked more like a 3DS game, imagine the 3D effect
This could easily pass as a PSP game that came out in the mid 2000s
More for a Psp in 2000s
I definitely need to learn 3D graphics stuff, because this is still one of my favorite eras of gaming, aesthetic-wise.
you'll be happy to learn that to get to this level you need very little time, as everything is low definition
art direction, and making sure everything looks cohesive is ganna take a bit while
@@TheNSJawsI wonder if HD-PSX style will ever be done. Similar to how pixel games got the HD-2D artstyle
This really tricked my brain into thinking this was a hidden gem from the PSx era.
Same here!🤣
Nah, it never works. It's always better looking than PS1
Passing glances of the thumbnail, and immediately thought i somehow stumbled on a ps1 game that was late in development that was force ported into the ps2 and forgotten for the same reason. In either case am just excited to see more of Gunmetal Gothic
I thought it was from the psx era too. Especially with the June 2024 Gameplay Trailer in the title.
This is like DS era graphics bro.
Reminds me of Vagrant Story. That was an underappricated gem.
You and me both
A mix between Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve, especially the girl. She's like a mix between Ashley and Aya
Legit couldn't shake the exact same feeling
same
One of the best games ever. Definitely the best story. Immaculate vibes, too.
Omg I love how we went from pixel games to now the area of PS1 low 3D polygon graphics in Indie games.
This game looks freaking amazing.
Exactly what we need in todays gaming industry.
That's great and all, but emulating 480p TV resolution on top of a solid ui kind of washes out the quality a lot.
Imagine trying to squint your eyes to read the text.
@@dra6o0n ah just like the good ole days, when i was playing on a tiny tv - coop game with 3 other ppl
When the "innovations" in modern gaming is so lacking that u travel back in time to have fun again
@@dra6o0n the pixelated graphics look nostalgic but I've never wanted to throw on AA so bad in my life
@@oyasumi2099 Yeah even in old games the ui is readable... It would be better if the pixelized shader applies to the 3d graphics, not the ui.
This is an era of gaming that I am happy to see finally making a comeback. the late '90s 3d game.
its not making a comeback
I assume its easier to develop these days. Like when homebrew was starting out, most of it was 8bit and 16bit type of games and flash. Im not a dev, but i assume new tool sets are out that make this kinda thing easier to do without a million dollar studio
Check out Crow Country!
@@kidrobot.Sure, if all you care about is AAA slop. My Steam feed is loaded with tons of these lower poly/retro styled games lately.
@@Professor_Utonium_ sure, if all you care about is nostalgia/big aaa copy filled slop
I'm going to tell my kids this is Helldivers.
Do it and report back at launch. haha
okay?
your not funny
This joke was never funny back then, and it's hilariously awful now.
Nightmare Creatures x Hellgate London. I dig it.
What's Hellgate London? 🤔
Indeed with RE and Parasite Eve mixed in. Would be cool if it had loot like Hellgate. Seems all that it currently has is mats of some sort which I'm guessing are used to craft and/or upgrade equipment.
man i still can't believe Hellgate London got cancelled
Aside from the feedback when hitting enemies could be better like a harder feeling hitsound it looks so good!
Man, the algorithm did some wonders recommending me this trailer, I really like the look of it!
I'm in love with this theme pixel's old graphics/textures, the atmosphere, and vibes in the game already hooked me to play the game, but one thing in any game that I hope to be considered is the font it's really necessary to be more clearer because it's hurting my eyes trying to read it, especially for too long
If I can give my opinion, I think it would be a good idea to add a sound effect and a reaction to enemies when they take some damage. Also a way to see the life of your companions, not the typical generic life bar but something like an aura on their feet that lets you see if they are green=100-70%, yellow=69-50% or red=45-1%.
Color coded aura at their feet would look weird and distracting. Just needs what Monster Hunter does with a list of party members and their health under your health.
A shooter-RPG with PS1/N64 style graphics and sound design? This is beyond cool. I hope this game gets ported to everything once done.
Same because I miss the PSX era too damn much.
@@bloodedge1528 So many cool PSX style indie projects being done lately. Including this and Nightmare Kart (previously Bloodborne Kart).
@@1Synner Ultrakill was insane
That would be cool if they could port it to the PS1 and the N64!!! So I can play it on the original hardwares!
@@shaun8062 I think it could be possible, provided it can fit on a CD.
This is the Phantasy Star Online (The original) type of game I have been waiting for. It's crazy to me that more developers haven't tried to mimic that style.
pretty sure there's a few on pc. also the newest pso and monster hunter is basically an evolution of it
Borderlands 1 & 2 were the most fun I had playing a co-op game with friends after Phantasy Star Online. I missed the stricter RPG class system of PSO though.
@@kidrobot. newest pso (ngs) is pure garbage (pso2 was great) last playable and good pso game is pso p infinity 2 and you can emulate it now with fan translation
@@kidrobot. NGS barely even resembles PSO on top of being literal horseshit and Monster Hunter is very much its own thing
@@hua.. loll
Woah. Spells, cover system, dashing, haunting atmospheric music? How is it that I follow this game on Twitter and have never seen this stuff??? It looks pretty rad!
I remember playing this back in 1998. So glad it's getting a re-release
lol
Looks pretty cool tbh. There's something really cool about being able to experience retro games with friends, something that normally would have been single player.
Reminds me of N64 Castlevania mixed with Winback & Nightmare Creatures.
My dad worked at kalisto on nightmare creatures and just the sound alone is bringing flashbacks
It looks like someone took Remnant and made it in the style of Resident Evil/Castle Castlevania.
And a dash of Vagrant Story.
Bloodborne PSX
There is something with the PS1 aesthetic that makes the dark setting even darker
Honestly this re created never capture the actual look and feel of a real PS1 game because sound abd movement was better couch resident evil 3 couch
the crystal clear sound effect at 0:21 is jarring since everything else is so drowned out and muffled
He's showing off a diablo sound
My only complaint is that I feel like the feedback when hitting enemies could be better. Maybe a hitsound (or if there is one and I couldn't hear it, a louder and more distinct hitsound) and a flashier spark effect for when you hit one?
The player attack animations look so weak - they barely look like they're using their weapons
I'm also having a hard time reading the text due to its stylized font. It's like this game is deliberately ignoring accessibility guidelines established for over a decade
@@REXanadu Bro, it's still in development... Chill with the personal insults.
Agreed, there is a sound now but you really only hear it when you're next to an enemy another player is hitting, and even then it's very muffled. Will be reworked at some point!
The main visual indicator of the hit is supposed to be the red flash, but it gets sort of lost in all the other effects with more players. I'll try adding something more to the visual as well.
@@REXanadu There will be an option to switch to a simple font, with no gradient or stylization of any kind. My intent is to provide as many accessibility options as possible, without compromising on the aesthetic of the defaults.
I'll see what I can do about the recoil! This is all still very much WIP and I'll be going back over a lot of things.
@@GunmetalGothicI think something similar to the hit effects in the og House of the Dead games would work great in this aesthetic
Yooooo, the fabled Nightmare Creatures 3 is finally being released 😮
the art style and theme is amazing
This surprisingly looks like a mix of particular ps1 games that some commenter might've pointed out with Bloodborne.
All while having the aesthetic of gameplay of some Ultimate Doom mods, combining guns and magic.
Love the atmosphere of the game. Reminds me of an old PS2 game I used to play a lot called McFarlane's Evil Prophecy.
I have no clue if this is a story game or a survival horror, maybe an rpg but I am all for the aesthetic and the atmosphere is on point.
That would be so sick as a story game or survival horror though! Description states it's a co-op, but who knows, maybe they'll consider adding a story mode depending on how this game does 👀✨️
Its really hard to master the PS1 looks. And I mean it. Because a lot of developers slap in low poly models with warping effect, but end up adding modern lighting and effects, which kinda ruins the vibe. If we are talking about perfect PS1 vibe capture, the first name that comes to mind is Lilith Walter with their Bloodborne PSX and Bloodborne Kart fangames.
And seeing you do the same, actually makes me happy! Keep up the good work as always
loving the balance between old looks and new performance, and the atmosphere and dread is something needed in these times.
This reminds me of this is what Parasite Eve could’ve been if it released as a real time action RPG game.
This looks incredible. The sound sfx for the menus gave me goosebumps. So spooky! ^_^
The reloading sound sounds like the intro of the "Ill keep coming" of low roar
played at mag when we tabled across from you. love it babey
Theres some potential to this but there definitely needs some “weight” to the actions, some chunk to the damage, and maybe a little bit more mechanics, a touch. It looks a litttttllleee to plain.
So Remnant: From The Ashes 3DS?
Pog.
loll
@@dvdbox360 nah, definitely ps2
Wishlisted! Looks amazing, can't wait to see what you make of this.
At first blush I thought this was a game I missed out on from the 90's
My interest is peaked in the first 30 seconds. Can't wait to see where this project will go.
Gunmetal: ✅
Gothic: ✅
Everything in the game: 144p with no anti aliasing
Ass: 4K, the only thing in the game that isn't a square
This is so cool! I cannot wait to try it!
I appreciate that you stay true to the visual aesthetic of the OG PlayStation while also providing players with modern conveniences. The way that the camera repositions itself over the player character’s shoulder to aim wasn’t a mechanic that was around yet in the 90s, only being invented around the time of Resident Evil 4 and its imitators, but it stuck around because it was WAY more intuitive and less frustrating than any TPS aiming control schemes for PSX.
One thing I've always disliked about such co-op games, it's when a group aims at an enemy and some players end up wasting ammo since someone else has already finished it.
An easy fix is to let the enemy linger and give a benefit for "overkilling" it.
Man, the footsteps really add so much atmosphere to the game in a way that I haven't seen done since Hybrid Heaven. Love it!
Birb
Hybrid Heaven, now THIS is a blast from the past.
I wonder why no one tried to create a spiritual successor of this gem?
@@ΦιλήσυχοςΠολίτης Same here! It was and still remains one of the most unique games from the N64 lineup. Hope Nightdive remakes it one of these days.
Cannot wait!!!!
Man this just popped into my feed outta nowhere but I cannot wait to play this, looks amazing
With regards to items found on the map, is the plan for them to be local (one per player) or server (one between the players)? Assuming there are multiple difficulties, that might make for an interesting option at higher difficulty tiers. I'm going off the assumption that these are like HUNTS from Monster Hunter but if its a more traditional level formula, then as a toggle or a standard for higher difficulty.
Pickups are local, one per player. In multiplayer, score is shared for the team, and the first player to pick up the item scores for everyone. After that, the halo turns white for all other players, who can then pick it up for themselves whenever they choose to.
Genuine thanks from online players frequently playing with strangers. Very good to not have looting be competitive when you’re all there to keep each other alive!
this gameplay looks sick! i will definitely try to keep up with the development of this as you guys make further progress on it
I love the gothic PS1 aesthetic! Makes me nostalgic for Nightmare Creatures and the like.
i hope there's gonna be puzzles like a resident evil game with houses and stuff you can explore. the combat looks so much fun to me so atmospheric, the way you pick up items and everything
Looks really intriguing tbh. I’d like to see a little more survival horror elements that require players to search the environment more and share items, ammo, etc and other mechanics to encourage players interact with each other.
The general vibe and atmosphere is already top tier though, love it.
Looks neat, also like the idea of the retro shader but feel like it could be turned down a notch.
Love the concept and idea, but i think it still needs a bit more of something so it can be more replayable. Maybe more combat mechanics (block/parry, faster enemies and more weapons), or more rpg mechnics? Probably already planning to add these already though. Cant wait to see the final product!
Definitely more to come in that regard :)
@GunmetalGothic can't wait 🥰🥰🥰
(Sorry for asking for so many things while being entirely uninvolved in the project, but I'd also love to see a ton more destructible enviroment items like windows, floors and etc. Seeing either the player or enemy break things makes things feel far more impactful. Sorry for suggesting so much stuff while not contributing much 😭)
@@SomeGuy-qd3li It's a good suggestion! Can't promise a "ton", but I do hope to make some more use of the breakable mechanics, as much as feels could be reasonably done on 5th-gen hardware, anyway. We'll see where that goes!
parry is not needed
@@kidrobot. I think it can add another layer of complexity for players to master. So good players can have something more and go through the game faster, and be more fun on replays. Having something difficult to master is always what makes repayable games so fun
old ps1 graphics emit have such a distinct atmosphere, love it
Everyone saying this looks like a ps1 game clearly you never had a psp
Third Birthday looked better than this. Maybe FFType-0? This just looks like if the PS1 had enough power to handle the draw distances we see here along with a steady 60, realistically it should be barely 20 meters of render at 30fps if we're lucky.
this looks way more like ps1 than psp what are you talking about.
It really looks like a psp game but with worse rendering resolution, the textures and models along with the UI reminds me of something like Phantasy Star Portable or Lord of Arcana
Yessir. The PS1 had more warp wobble distortion. PSP didn't have that.
It happens with every generation
If it wasn't for the framerate and the draw distance I could 100% be tricked into thinking this was running on PS1 hardware, the footstep sound effects are absolutely golden. This totally zapped me back to my childhood playing Koudelka, Vagrant Story and all those sorts of classics, awesome work.
Reminds me of this really obscure game called ODT on ps1.
Or Die Trying? Hell yeah
If they add russian language and replayability like rogue-like to the game, then I will only play this game in my whole life. So much atmosphere, as a fan of the Underworld films I'm glad. Sorry for the inaccurate English, translated via Google translator.
I love how older graphics are returning as an art style form.
This is going to a really fun game. Classic PS1 grafics, interesting Gothic style, guns and magic. Sign me up
This feels like a PSP game (likely the widescreen) or a hypothetical PSP predeccesor.
it's retro 90's early PSX graphic style, PSP is already advanced enough to even surpass PSX best graphics, borderline PS2 graphics even
My dream game is basically this exact game, but with character customization, anton of rpg elements, a massive hub map the size of skyrim, and procedurally generated infinite dungeons as post-game.
that is amazing
i already wishlist this
tnx ynoham for your work
tnx youtube for recommendation
RUclips algorithm just helped you get 1 more customer. This is looking promising.
This reminds me of a surreal dream I once had. Can't wait for it to come out in full, looks awesome
Low resolution is pretty painful on text and UI elements. Makes it actively hostile to read.
Very strong Nightmare creatures vibes
you really gotta turn down the pizel filter. that is an eyesore
世界観最高ですね!
エネミーのデザインが気に入りました。
時間かかっていいから是非完成させてほしい。
I’m amazed this is recent: it looks and sounds like a lost classic!
This goes hard, the environment design, the interface detail, even the font choice 😎✨ Peak content!
Theres alot of elements i loved from older games all mashed flawlessly together here.
The aesthetic is great, but I'd love an option to make the text crisper. It's kind of hard to read.
Excellent looking game with a wonderful vibe.
Only thing its missing is a dominatrix nun demon slayer with a silenced smg as a playable or side character.
Looks like something stright out of the PSP and i love it❤❤
I love it when these modern retro games are actually modeled at what the hardware looked like and could handle. Nothing is more annoying then games that are modern "retro" but have giant levels or massive sprites that hardware at the time would never be able to handle.
Beautiful game. Love the environment showcased.
This looks so freaking cool man, we are thirsty for games like this. I hope you did take your time for balancing and a decent story but also small details can be important! It's a ton of work but it will be worth it at the end. Wishlisting now!!!
Featured in "How to stay goth past 50" magazine.
Beautiful project. Reminds me of resident evil revelations 2's raid mode. Happy for coming across this video!
It feels like I'm playing with the volume turned down, even though my volume is way up.
This aesthetic and atmosphere is top shelf.
I feel like I need a CRT filter to really appreciate this
It's rare to see a retro game that actually looks and feels like an old school game.
I don't know if you've ever played the original Phantasy Star Online, but it's a very special game to me. What you've created here reminds me SO MUCH of what I enjoyed about that game, and I would absolutely love if you ended up taking Gunmetal Gothic more towards the "Going on a some missions to farm super rare items with your friends" route.
Really loving this resurgence of ps1 / ps2 era games . Such a cool art style
I love these old school aesthetics. cool to see more games mimicking this bygone era
This gives me Nostalgia but it hasn't even released yet
Reminds me of blade on the ps1
So much atmosphere here
Hope you double down on that and the crunchy combat
That looks awesome, the game has the Vagrant Story aesthetic and now is on my radar.
We are officially in the era of indie games recreating PS1 games now, and I couldn't be more psyched.
OMG I REALLY MISS THESE KINDS OF AESTHETICS IN GAMES WISHLISTED!!
Beautiful! CastleVania 64 vibes!
Looking SO supernostalgic. Can do nothing but wish you the best on this beautyful project you're making. I'll keep following your activity in the meantime. Cheers, Mr.Ynoham.
And instantly to the wishlist this goes.
The nostalgia for an era I didn't even play through. Hell yes!
man you really have something good going on here
i think the pixelization needs to be turned down a bit, i don't remember ps1 games looking this bad.
Making AI more challenging that walking punching bag would be huge improvement.
Vagrant Story with guns, and I'm here for it. This is absolutely going on the wish list and I WISH that it comes out VERY soon.
dam cant wait to play this
