    I used to buy presents for all my relatives, the countless hours spent scurrying around the mall trying to buy things for people that have everything! And for what? To be forgotten, returned or thrown away? A few years ago, we made a mutual agreement to not exchange gifts anymore and instead focus on food and fellowship. No one misses the presents at all, and the holidays are so much more enjoyable now!

      Similar here. Ever since Covid-19 I just started buying wine. Literally just get wine bags at dollar stores & fill each one with inexpensive wines.
      Works well because it doesn't depreciate, it's easily re-giftable if a person doesn't want it, & if I'm invited to someone's party as a surprise it's just so easy to grab one & say "oh, look what I got you".

    Give people gift cards as presents. That way the recipient can buy what they want or need..... not junk that has to be returned.

      if they ask for gift cards. i hate getting gift cards because i get anxiety and feel like i have to spend it on something for ‘the household’. if you give me a gift though its stress free for me as long as its something on or adjacent to my list.

    • @misterfunnybones
      @misterfunnybones 18 дней назад +2

      Gift cards are limited to certain stores, get lost, fail to be used. They're a retailer's dream. Redemption rates are never 100%.

    • @williamrowlands1789
      @williamrowlands1789 18 дней назад +4

      @misterfunnybones Believe me I never let a gift card go to waste. I'd tell people ahead of time if they were going to get me a gift card for either Christmas or my birthday what stores to get them from. Maybe a prepaid Visa debit card would be a better option since you can use it anywhere.

      Just don't give or accept anything. It's pretty simple and people get used to it very quickly. We started this years ago and everyone was fine with it - less junk for them and less money/time spent shopping. KISS - keep it simple, silly.

    Returns are not shocking, considering more people shop online and unable to see items or try things on, etc. This is further exacerbated by the over consumerism that currently exists/ Influencers pretending to buy gigantic hauls to show off/influencers convincing people to buy crap they don't need.

    I find it quite sad how people go through so much trouble to buy a gift for someone they love and the individual goes and returns it because they don't like it or want it but just want the money instead , people shouldn't spend any money on individuals who will end up taking the gift back to the store because that shows that they don't care about how much time and effort you put into getting the gift for them.

    People still give gifts? That's so last century. Stop shopping, save the planet and take a stand against consumerism. Fifteen plus years ago we let everyone know we were not buying or giving anyone gifts and no one was to buy us or give us anything. I think it was a huge relief for everyone and we didn't care what anyone thought about us (and, no, we're not poor. I just think gifts and shopping ruin any holidays). We don't even send cards (who needs to when you have email?).

  • @HeatherSVideos1
