I love how you shared that finding purpose doesn’t always come from what’s comfortable. Sometimes the most random things lead us to where we need to be.
Loved the mention of psilocybin and how it helped you out, there's all sorts of trials and stuff being done with mushrooms in therapy and I'm so excited for people to start accepting it more!
The story about your mom and how she shared her life experiences with you at the perfect moment was so powerful. It really made me think about how important it is to listen to the people around us and share our own stories.
This has me thinking about how caught up we get in following a set path when it could be completely wrong for you. Sometimes you really just have to go with your guy in order to truly figure it all out!
I agree that finding your "why" is rarely ever a straight path. You have to experiment and be open to things outside your usual routine otherwise you can't ever really grow!
I really appreciated how honest you were about not feeling fulfilled even after achieving "success." It’s a reminder that there’s more to life than ticking boxes.
The message about stepping outside of your comfort zone to find purpose is such a good one. I don't think people realize how important challenging yourself is for real growth
Myra , you just told my story … I awoke up this morning at the crossroad of my life with this one thought in mind -. What IF I became the first …… in my present family ( not family ) as it opens the door for my children and grandchildren . This scared me so much that I had a nightmare this Sunday gone 27.10.24. I cried on Monday , stayed depressed until Tuesday , awoke hopeful this morning , and spend nearly an hour and a half WRITING in my journal. You see I too wanted to be a writer , I loved books growing up as a child , books , books everywhere , the original bookworm and my way of escaping from a way of life know ( Carribean background ) to a life unknown ( English ) as a young child. Blue sky hot sun , blue sky COLD , gosh was I confused. Getting back on the subject , I RUclips how to overcome self doubt in starting a business and you were the third speaker. Interestingly enough , I thought that my book could be my life as boring , stressful , overcoming and determined as it could be … Excerpts of me and to top it all off , I sold Mushrooms for a period of 18 months ending last year. One of the question I / we were often asked “ are they magic mushroom “, my response “ the magic is in the flavour “. So like you I will write as I feel compel to write , and I also want to give a Ted Talk , so thank you Myra and Ted Talk , our paths was meant to collide. One last though , I was told by my partner to “ keep on writing “as the story I wrote about a “ the life of a Nail on the wall “, was so good and that he was “ not just saying it to make me feel good”. This writing was following another RUclips story writer, to “ NOT write about inanimate objects “, with this instruction I HAD to write.
It sounds to me like you are well on your way to a your path and purpose. What an exciting experience you describe - and so potentially rewarding and fulfilling. Thank you for sharing your journey. And I hope you do indeed do a TEDx Talk. There is something about the format that pushes you to become laser-focused on the idea you want to share! Much luck to you!
Personally I think everyone should be exploring those creative outlets... you really don't know what's inside you until you give it a chance to come out
I instantly teared up hearing about her mothers memories... I think as we age and near the end of our lives our need to feel like we mattered and our experiences were for something get stronger and stronger. I never gave my mother this opportunity and I regret it deeply.
I hope you will have another opportunity to learn more about her (your mom) and somehow feel connected. It may not be the same as having had that connection in person but I do wish that experiences for you.
Good on you for having the courage to go on "Phoebe's journey" I think it speaks volumes on how far we've come societally that a person who typically doesn't do any drugs can have the kind of experience
Totally unexpected! I thought I was tuning in for a typical talk on success, but you threw in so many unique insights about life’s twists and turns. Loved it!
Thank you form sharing this sentiment. You are absolutely right. At the end of the day, we have to make time for the people we love for in addition to love, they often have support or wisdom to offer us.
I have found it helpful (recently) to draw in the concepts of ikigai. According to the Japanese culture, everyone has an ikigai and is able to find it by meditating on these four probing questions: What do I love? What am I good at? What can I be paid for? What does the world need? Your purpose may be explored at the intersection of these responses. It is a practice, thinking like this, but maybe it is a concept of interest to you.
Yes, true. But if you’ve always been balanced - and doing a very good balancing act, sometimes it’s good to put yourself in a situation where you have to try to find a new way to be.
If you were to ask me yesterday "what type of person that would write a memoir?" I would've said a self-absorbed white male from before 1940 who took more credit than he deserved..
I agree. The stories of a privileged group and their narrative, have been privileged. But good memoir (I make no judgement about what is and isn’t’ but let’s just stay good stories, generally) ought to be the purview of anyone.
What a fantastic journey you've been on to discover yourself!
I love how you shared that finding purpose doesn’t always come from what’s comfortable. Sometimes the most random things lead us to where we need to be.
This is so inspiring!! I love your willingness to just delve into the uncharted territory!

What an amazing friend she had in "Phoebe" - someone who challenges you to step outside your comfort zone while still being considerate is so rare!!
I agree that finding your "why" is rarely ever a straight path. You have to experiment and be open to things outside your usual routine otherwise you can't ever really grow!
So true!
I really appreciated how honest you were about not feeling fulfilled even after achieving "success." It’s a reminder that there’s more to life than ticking boxes.
Thank you for your affirmation. You are so right. We have to step out of the boxes!
Such a fabulous talk - a must watch!
Thank you!
This is such a cool story!! Glad I came across this one 😊

I admire how you found your passion through memoir writing. It really gives me hope that purpose can come at any stage in life.
It really can! Good luck to you.
A mothers story can touch us in ways we don't know of at the time. How important it is to listen and share our histories.
I truly believe that our ancestors walk alongside us, guiding and influencing and storying, so that we can find new ways to be.
So true. May you have the opportunity to share yours.
Personally I think everyone should be exploring those creative outlets... you really don't know what's inside you until you give it a chance to come out
Agreed! And thank you for your insights!
I was NOT expecting to hear about mushrooms in a TEDx talk, but you made it work! Life’s all about pushing those boundaries, right?
So very much so!
Loved the story about doing mushrooms! Definitely did it for all the right reasons but I do hope you got the giggly part of the experience too!!
😅

This is such a beautiful talk! I love how you got to where you are in your journey. Thank you for this wisdom, definitely sharing 💖💖
Thank you so much for your comment.

Loved how you shared your struggles with finding purpose even after so much success. It’s reassuring to know that it's okay to keep searching.
It is absolutely okay and necessary to keep searching for, refining and living your purpose. Good luck to you on an extraordinary journey.😊
The mushroom journey part had me raising my eyebrows, but respect for trying something so out there!
The way you describe finding your "why" was super motivating. Makes me want to dig deeper and figure out what compels me.
Wonderful! May your journey lead you to life-changing experiences, places and spaces!
Amazing talk! Your journey really shows how life can take unexpected but meaningful turns. Can’t wait to hear more from you!
Thank you so much!
This made me think about my own life and the "rules" I've been following. Maybe it's time to step out of that and discover something new. Thank you.
Absolutely! I wish you the greatest of new adventures!
@@myravirgil8362 thank you...
Totally unexpected! I thought I was tuning in for a typical talk on success, but you threw in so many unique insights about life’s twists and turns. Loved it!
Your openness about your personal journey is so refreshing! I especially loved the part about taking risks to find fulfillment.
Thank you for your reflections. I think I am taking a welcomed page from the younger generation!
The story about your mom’s last words really touched me. It’s a reminder to listen to the people we love before it’s too late
Thank you form sharing this sentiment. You are absolutely right. At the end of the day, we have to make time for the people we love for in addition to love, they often have support or wisdom to offer us.
This was so inspiring! Love the idea of embracing the unexpected to find your true purpose
Wonderful, Myra! I look forward to reading your memoir!
Thank you for watching- and thank your support!
Your journey through writing, philanthropy, and even psychedelics was so fascinating! You've shown that exploring the unknown is worth it.
So powerful, Myra. Congratulations.
Well I certainly didn't know what to expect from this title lmao but I'm glad I gave it the time
Thank you for taking the time and for that validation ❤.
She's right though, that feeling of like... I'm meant to be doing more. I know there's more for me. It's just so hard figuring out what that part is.

Some may like a more balanced approach to fulfilment rather than chasing every whim or weird experience...
Yes, true. But if you’ve always been balanced - and doing a very good balancing act, sometimes it’s good to put yourself in a situation where you have to try to find a new way to be.
Damn, this chick is adventurous!
Aaw, thank you!
👏👏👏
I think everyone should do mushrooms at least once in their life. Such a rewarding experience
😅

A witch figure for guidance is a little to out there for me. I'm a known quantity kinda gal.
I feel ya!
Don’t I know it! I would have said the same for myself.
