  • I'm a software developer homeowner and I don't like having to pay tons of money to get things fixed in my house so I fix them myself.
Things I had to buy (~$23.00):
    Cleanout adapter
    Cleanout cap
    4-in PVC coupler
    Purple primer for CPVC PVC
    Medium clear PVC cement
    Tools:
    Small shovel
    Towel
    Hand saw
    Hand file
    Water pump pliers

Nice. My septic service wanted $200 to fix mine. I told them I'd fix it myself. Thanks for the video friend.

Repaired the broken clay pipe clean out by digging down 2 feet. Then I attached a bosch cutting wheel to my grinder and cut the pipe even at the 2' mark. The clean out was installed on an angel because it went under a sidewalk. I purchased a large rubber joint to slide over the clay pipe so I could attack the 6" PVC pipe with a clean out adapter on it. Sliding the rubber joint over the clay pipe took alot of work because it was to tight. I tried lubrication on it but still no go. I finally torched it to make it more pliable and it slid right on. I then tightened everything down poured in sand around the joint and completed the job. I really learned as I went on that one.

I just installed one, and avoided this by installing the clean out in a recessed box. I found one used for $10. Now there is a green lid that is flush with the ground, and all you do is pull off the lid to access the pipe; very nice compared to just having it sticking above the ground fully exposed. Many water mains are accessed the same way, and are recessed below the ground. These recessed boxes can be found for very cheap, and prevent a trip hazard in your lawn.

Thank you!! This was super easy to follow for someone with no knowledge of any of the supply items. Had no problem finding them in lowes or figuring out the tools to use. Prices have definitely increased and the exact same items cost me $58.99. But the fix was exactly what I needed!

Just destroyed the top of mine today, but it requires I dig down enough to get to the pipe. Great video now I know how to fix it. Now to a bunch of digging.

Just hit mine too and we will have to dig down as well. Ripped it up pretty good.

Good video. I have three all of which are still intact. I'm going to locate three round paver type rings to set over mine to stop the mower from a potential hit.

Could not find round pavers with a 4" round hole so I use a 'form' ( one of my Wife's old cake pans ) and a 4"' can to set up the hole plus some Quickrete. I'm thinking the lawn man won't get to the clean outs moving forward.

Better than most of the other videos I have seen, but I would have put it in a recessed box so that it is out of the way.

I destroyed mine over a decade ago at least. I've been experiencing plumbing issues in one bathroom. Today I had a backup on both toilets and both showers for a second and smelled sewage. How screwed am I?

I had this problem, rent a good snake from home depot clean and flush your lines towards your home and away from your home. Then do what he did in this video you will save yourself a great deal of money

Wrong cap. That will force fluid back into your house. Get a pop-up cap that will allow fluid out but not it.

The one that got destroyed they sell that one piece well I know Home Depot does it’s more flush to the ground unless you wanted it taller.

Jonathan Neal yeah, I was going for something that kinda stood out more to avoid running over it again with the wrong blade height. But also, that assembly was the first one I found 🤷‍♂️. I guess it worked out. Thanks!

I would dig around it enough to expose it. It might get messy but I’m not sure there are many other options. Good luck!

yeah, you fixed it, but now you have an obstacle to move your mower around, something for people to trip over, etc. Much better to have installed that flush or just below ground surface within a box
