  • In this video, Austin Davis, our National Training Director for Concealed Coalition, discusses a common question from our concealed coalition members: “What pistols do police use?” He highlights the choices made by law enforcement agencies throughout the United States, explaining that there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
Some agencies issue a single type of handgun to all officers, while others provide options from the same or different brands. Some even allow officers to select from an approved list of handguns. The caliber of the gun may be restricted in some cases, but not the specific firearm.
Austin also dives into the factors that make the perfect police pistol, emphasizing that it varies based on whether you’re on patrol, in a special unit, or administrative role, and whether you have a non-standard hand size. The possibilities are endless, making it a subject of endless debate among officers.
For those aspiring to become law enforcement officers, Austin poses the question, “What pistol would you choose?” Share your thoughts in the comments below to join the discussion on the ideal law enforcement firearm, and don’t forget to like and subscribe for more informative content from Concealed Coalition!

During a discussion with ChatGPT last week it told me the Glock 19 was a superior choice. But I'm not a cop, just a mere robot-wrangler. :)

The Springfield XD and the Sig Sauer P226 are excellent choices. There's also the classic Beretta 92FS. Although most LEAs have been brainwashed and drink the Glock Kool Aid, so most officers (and civilians) carry those. For my money, the Sig P226 is the best handgun around. It's good enough for U.S. Special Forces, so it'll probably serve the average LEO more than adequately.
