      I just did this myself and I started off stripping bolts when I tried to fix my brakes lol. I've came a long way since but honestly the hardest part of this job for me was removing the valve cover from underneath all the wires. The valvtronic isn't as bad as it seems follow step by step you'll be fine. Some bolts in back where a pain you'll need a swivel but other than that it just takes time. Took me 6 hours but I also did OFHG and removed the intake to replace the Breather Hose.

    To remove the crankcase hose, press the tab on the opposite side of the one on the video with your either index of middle finger, and use a medium size flat point screw driver to push down on the side you see on the video, and push back with you left hand. Do not rush, if loosing patience, stop and comeback later. If you break this hose not only is going to cost you money but great amount of time.

      When you use the key, all it does is find the home position, but if you didn't get the valvetronic motor back in exactly the same position as when it was removed it'll be offset. The risk is either the eccentric shaft smashes into the limit or it doesn't actually make it to the home position. You should use the tool to relearn the limits fully.

      @sdgelectronics 2 года назад +1

      Not necessarily required if you do the correct procedure of re-learning the valvetronic position in ISTA D. Common symptom of not relearning the position properly is the slight oscillation or rough idle which you can hear in this video when it starts up.

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  2 года назад

      The rough idle was from a vacuum leak not from the valvetronic motor👍🏻

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics 2 года назад +1

      @@GeorgeAusters The high frequency oscillation you hear just after starting is the PID loop on the valvetronic system, since the pre-learned position did not create the correct condition for idle. That's separate to a general rough idle from the vacuum leak which is a slower loop, since it needs the O2 sensors.

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics 2 года назад +1

      @@GeorgeAusters I saw your other video, but most likely when you replaced the motor after changing the gasket, you most likely got it closer to the originally learned position. The tiny vacuum leak would not usually cause such rough running, but you need to look at the fuel trims to make any kind of conclusion.

    I hate to tell you this but the inner gasket was on upside down - if you look at the shape of the holes before you remove the old one at 17:49, compared to how the new one went in at 19:09 , the wider part of the egg shaped holes was previously upwards.. presumably to accommodate the guide tubes, but if those went in ok I guess there was no major problem. It could however be distorting around those holes, potentially increasing the likelihood of leaks around the sparks plugs?

    Have just done this job and it went well until I went to start the car.
    It cranked but didn’t fire.
    Checked the earth at the coils..all good.
    Power at coils all good.
    Checked the date stamp on the coils…it was…
    06-05-19…I read this and though oh they are three years old all good it won’t be them.
    What that date code means is 19th may 2006.
    Turns out they were originals as the car is an 07.
    The coils didn’t like being disturbed…and the car is on 130,000miles.
    After a lot of messing about got a single new coil…spark plug in it. Jump lead gripped round the end of the plug to earth and turned it over. Had a spark.
    New coil packs from gsf…and new plugs fired up straight away.
    Other than that all good.
    If I new the coils date stamp actually meant 2006 I’d of gone straight for them!

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  Год назад +1

      Are you sure you seated them all the way with the plugs fully on? I'd be very surprised at all the coils failing at once

      1,000,000 percent.
      I tested each coil on the front cylinders lead…
      On a piece of rag with the bottom of the spark plug grounded to a jump lead.
      Then the new coil pack I got out…done the same and had an instant spark.
      So put six new coil packs in and they fired!
      Can post you them if you don’t believe me 😂
